quick tip: visit www.v6p.net (http://www.v6p.net) for heaps...heaps...heaps more info on this issue (although it's a US site).

Either a recondition is in order or a full replacement. The only manual box that fits the J30 motor is from a Legend I think...not to sure though. Call your wreckers first to see if they have any auto-boxes in stock.

furhter to 'teachers' point,

i assume your accord is 4cyl, because you stated manual. V6s in aus only came out in auto.

i'm not 100% sure but i think V6s in the US only came in auto as well...i think..

manual conversions are pretty difficult. just do a search on here. requires all components, possible chassis modifications and long lead times in obtaining parts. stick with the auto box, fix it, drive it, sell it and get a manual one.

ah...I didn't even ask if it was a 4cyl or v6...the j30 I mentioned is the v6.
Thx for the clarification Jeff.

the v6 comes in manual as well... however.. not in Oz.. you may have to source them from the states..
wreckers might be the cheapest option..

The 6th gen v6 accord never came in manual form in the US or anywhere else for that matter.

what we might be talking about is the Acura CLS J32 with 6 speed manual. Its a common swap in the states.

Great choice to go the manual as the V6 gearbox is a piece of crap, and very dangerous when it decides to engage!

Hey guys tks for the info, yeah sorry it is a v6, and i didnt think they ever made them in manual, i was told by honda i could get a manual but it would have to come from america, and i don't really have the time to wait the transmission specialist said he wouldn't put a manual in for me he just said he wouldnt touch it, and i really need my car back the spare commodore is just pure embarrasment.
So hopefully i get it back on fri. tks again guys i really appreciate it.

Yeah the 98 gearbox is not strong enough to match the v6 engine, so try to get the used auto gearbox from the wreckers, if you can't find it try to get it from hondwreck or hondaspares in melbourne. I prefer the hondaspares coz their service is better.

I have been told by a transmission rebuilder that the v6 transmission casing from the 98-(02?) is prone to warping
Hence the extended warranty on the later models.

The extended warranty was only released in the US I believe. And most problematic gearboxes are seen in the V6s, rarely 4cyls.

let us know what parts he is putting in and how it drives afterwards - i.e. gear changes, etc.

thanks for the update
