guys i've seen people do this when they do a b18c conversion...
is there an advantage of using a b16a head instead of the b18c head?

It flows better, and is closer in design to the ITR head.

Do a search for "LS-VTEC" on most Honda forums and you'll find out about it. You can prolly drop it into a search engine like Google and find out about it too.

Cheers

I think he is reffering to putting a b16 head on an already DOHC VTEC setup (B18C). Why? Because the B16a head is closer to the ITR head than the B18C head.

B18'B' is the LS-VTEC setup. :)

this is more commonly called a 'poor mans type r'.
yes the B16a head is slightly more aggressive, but if you go with the 16A head on a 18C block, you will actually lose compression and quite often you don't feel much difference in power. to do it properly it's better to grabs some high compression pistons such as CTR and get the head port and polished and you will get an awesome flowing head with high compression which will rev willing to 9K!

I thought the DC2R motor designation code was B18C?
Obviously I was wrong. So what is it?

This might come in usefull

http://www.ozhonda.com/data/codes.htm

It's USA based, but you get the idea :)

B18C5 & B18C7 are the ITR. When people say B18C, the usually just reffer to the Vti-r

Either that or the DOHC VTEC model...

the JDM ITR is coded B18C-R
the Oz B18C7 and Us spec is B18C5 for the ITR.
the VTi-R engine code is B18C2

hahah so the so called "all motor monster" done by autosalon was povo?
since the guy used b18c block with b16a head (dont bother correcting my engine codes...i really cbf)

but im not sure if the guy used tegR engine or just vti-r engine...

would it also be cheaper to just stick with the b18c head? or does the b16a head go straight on?

The head will bolt right on but as said before, you will lose compression.
Another reason to switch to the B16A head is that you can bolt a Type R intake manifold to it, since the Type R head is a b16 head which has been ported and with upgraded internals. A Type R intake manifold will not bolt onto a B18C head.

Hey man, you're the dude with the B16A Civic right?
Did you come to the North or South Island? I'm in the South so I didn't make it up to the drag day :|

If you're doing a rebuild with ITR or CTR pistons you can make up for some of the lost compression with the B16 head but otherwise there isn't much advantage compared to the B18C head. You can get Skunk2 intake manifolds that bolt onto a B18C and are very similar to the ITR manifold anyway.

ADD TO THE ALREADY WRITTEN ..
Once you have done that, go out and get a Spoon 2 ply head hasket and that will raise your compression as well :)
