Hey Ladies and Gents, Rodney here and I'm 17.

I dont know too much about Honda's so I'm hoping i can build some knowledge from all you peoples!
Here's my lil baby:

Please dont rip me too much for this, but I paid $10K.
It came from a Holden Used Car yard and has only 58,000 kms on it.
It is in great condition, I'm very happy about that, came with a 60,000km service also.

Nikki thanks, what exactly does the welcome dance consist of? :)

Sydsyd, I love the red! My cousin is a car detailer and he told me this will go pink so I have to keep it polished. I am a keen forum member and a moderator on one forum so I hope that can help me reduce causing a nuisance. I know how annoying it is when people dont search themselves!
As you are in Melbourne I reckon I may run into you at a meet or something.

Joeyboy I do have plans, hehe :P, but I owe my dad money just for the purchase. My plans include, Rota Slipstreams or Advan RGIIs, Some stereo bits, a lip kit, some nice suspension and some exhaust work. As this baby will last me some time, fingers crossed, I am hoping that I dont pour too much cash into (I bet you've heard that before) it so that when I get off my P's I can get something boosted perhaps, and keep this as a daily driver.

Thanks again for the welcome guys, looking forward to getting to know you all!

Ive got the books with stamps and all, but I'm 17 and an innocent kid who trusts too easy so i could have just been suckered. The car yard was trying to sell it for 13,990. I was told it was owned by a grandma.
If you saw it you could tell it looks very genuine, it drives, feels and looks like new to me. My only problem is a broken antenna and bloody cassette deck!

hehe jus convince urself that its genuine.

all civics are pretty much driven by grandma's or people on ozhonda.

cassette... replace with new hu ;)

It was detailed before i picked it up and its till looks pretty good now.
I have just taken out my front speakers because they arent working, can anyone please tell me that there is some way for me to test the speaker at home? and will it be easy to replace the antenna?
As for the h.u what do you recommend and with what other components ie sub, amp, crossovers and tweeters etc etc. I dont have the largest budget.

Hah I had no clue what they were, they were just on it.. I think they are alright.
Uh OH! I dropped a screw from my rear speaker and it fell under the rear seat, what are my chances of seeing it again?

Sorry if I am posting too much :o quite excited to meet everyone!

prob the rarest OEM DC rims around, only came out for 2 years. (bit of useless trivia)

Just try lifting the rear seat from where the backrest and bench meet, should lift right up if I'm not mistaken.

58k for a 95 model?? That's around 4,800kms/yr

either its a dodgey or u are very very lucky. im hoping its the second one.

how much u willing to spend on ICE? and y dont u think the fronts are working? cant u test it with cassette player? i'll lend u my old boyz2men tapes if u want (lol). but even if your antenna is broken, try switching it to radio and see (or hear) what happens.

then if still nothing, then wait til u get your audio gear and but everything except fronts. test it, if no sound, then buy fronts. but let me know how much you're willing to spend on ice.

Anythings that would tip me off to it being dodgey so I can decide if I was ripped off or if they are genuine kms?

Well I really dont know about the fronts, I thought I was getting static through them but now theres nothing. I set the balance to all front and there is no sound at all. I took them out and used the wires from my computer speakers to see if that did anything and I got nothing (but I didnt press the wires onto the terminals using my hand, just rubbing against them, but no static or anything). I tested them using my good old Eminem Show tape :P but maybe boyz2men could be the cure! lol, nah I won't deprive you of them.

as for price on ICE, I'd say $2 a bag from the servo, no higher than that.
hehe, Hmm I guess I need to do some research but I have no idea on price vs. quality, I guess up to like $170 for a head unit, am I being cheap there?
The rest I am totally unsure on.... any suggestions are welcome :D Thanks again to everyone, I am surprised by how helpful you all are.

for a head unit, u get what u pay 4.

i've had supercheap specials, thru to kenwood, sony and pioneer.

so far i reckon pioneer has given me better sound quality. around the $300 mark is where u wanna b for a good stereo without going for anything spectacular.

well dats my opinion neway, i m just a noob so i m sure other ppl have better ideas.

when you say, $300 for a stereo, what components do you mean? like just the head unit or other parts like the speakers, crossovers, Subs and amps etc etc?

EDIT-*
Oh BTW, These are my rims, I dont think they are the previously mentioned Vti-r's.

sorry should have been more specific, just a head unit. amp and subs alot more ofcourse. depening on what u want. there is such a thing as too much bass.

i had an old mitsubishi 84 colt, i had pioneer headdeck, 2 x pioneer 6" speakers, 2x pioneer 6x9" speakers, a 1200W 4ch amp and 2x 1000W subs. the whole car used to vibrate and rattle badly (but thats whatu get for having a Bitsa-missin). (the amp and subs were just no-name brands)

This is a cruise that we plan for next month...u're more than welcome to come and join us:)

or if u just want to meet and greet us: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69276

ur car will not go pink anytime soon if u keep taking care of it...i've parked my car outside for a full year, and the color of the roof hasn't changed at all;)

Im not interested in going overboard, so something simple suits me. My mate has a set up with 2 6" up front, 2 6X9" and 2 tweeters in the back and sub and amp in the boot. It sounds good enough for me, but there may be a difference as it is in a VL commodore.

The chances of me cruising with ya's are low until I get my P's, but then I'll be up for it. I live about 1.5 hours out of melbourne so I dont think my olds would want to tag along.

just also a li'l note, now or end of june would be the best to buy equipment due to end of year stocktake sale. 2006 models are going to be sold relatively cheap due to 2007 stock. so keep your eyes out.

i got a mate with a 92 honda civic hatch, he got pioneer headdeck, 2 x 6" front speakers (dual cone) and 2 x 6x9" in the rear. its sounds as good (audio quality) as my other mates sound system in his vp commodore.

so basically just a headdeck and some speakers will be more that sufficient, just buy a good brand.

just got the multimeter onto my front speakers, they are both dead!
Can anyone think of any reason why (a) they would be dead? and (b) why both are dead?

Can anyone think of any reason why (a) they would be dead? and (b) why both are dead?

can u b a bit more specific,

1. check voltage, not amperage

2. with music playin check voltage across the 2 points.

ie while speaker is connected and music playing put red lead on 1 terminal and black lead on the other, should get a reading.

(cheap multimeters can give false readings as some "absorb" small amounts of voltage ie less then 1Volt.

(i know this cos i had a cheap one and tried fault testing a O2 sensor on the exhaust of my old ford falcon (voltage tween 0.9 and 0.85 volts) and kept getting 0.1 to 0.4 volts)

a decent multimeter costs about/atleast $50. theres a yellow one (cant remember brand name) in supercheap or dicksmith that will do a good job.

if they r both dead, could be headdeck. wire short, or if old speakers playing music loud can ruin the coil in em, although they usually get a buzz sound (noticable on bass atfirst then in vocal range) b4 they kark it

i was checking the resistance of the speaker, i checked my rear speaker and got 4 ohms resistance and checked the fronts and got nothing. The multimeter i got should be a good one because it is used at school by only students "good enough". I was just going to borrow one of the cheapo ones but my teacher said the take the ones used by VET electronics classes, so im sure its a decent multimeter, thanks heaps for your help Simmo!

Simmo2302
24-06-2007, 06:09 AM
ahh k kool, i dunno about resistance (well i kno the theory neway) neva done it, allways just used voltage.

Red_EG4
24-06-2007, 01:15 PM
yeah I asked my teacher if I could borrow one and he asked me if I knew what I was testing and I said I had no idea, and so he said check resistance.
He also said he thought it was unlikely for them to be busted and that it would be a problem with wiring or the head unit, which makes this seem all the more strange.

Simmo2302
24-06-2007, 03:05 PM
yea well if u r getting no ohms in the back i guess they ave gone open circuit. happen with old speakers or cheap ones. but still strange that they went "all of a sudden". power surge maybe ?

Red_EG4
24-06-2007, 10:16 PM
Im getting no resistance in the front. It wasnt really all of a sudden, when I first got them I was getting static through them but now nothing. They are pioneer speakers. I'll see what else I can find out.

Simmo2302
25-06-2007, 05:50 PM
if they were all static'c then the coil has gone in 'em. cant fix em, have to replace em.

Red_EG4
25-06-2007, 10:18 PM
ah well I guess I was going to anyway.
Is there much difficulty fitting aftermarket speakers?
I was thinking I would go for 6" fronts, is that hard to do?

Simmo2302
26-06-2007, 06:02 AM
if still got the stock on my 02 civc at the moment. so i dont know 4 sure.

getting the door trim off s easy enough

but on an 02 honda usues a funny looking mount around the stock speaker, dont kno if u can re-use that.

or if u have to put a bit of 20mm ply behind the speaker, mount the speaker to that (so rear of speaker doesnt hit door wall) then mount the ply to the car.

:-S

To check if your spkrs are dead ( not very likely with both of them dead and the cone material isn't totally torn from its surround; more likely a fader control problem or wiring fault from deck loom to the speaker wire plugs ), either you use an batt powered analog multimeter and set it to continuity and hook up the probes to the speaker terminals. You should hear static noises. Or simply hook up a battery ie 1.5V AA or even a 9V batt onto the terminals and it will create a "pop" sound.

Congratulations on your purchase btw and it looks very clean and original, I've got a EG Si in red too and it's my daily driver and pride and joy now having sold my E30 3 series I owned for 14 years last year. I leave my AMG Merc at home most of the time now, the civic is much more fun around corners and much much better on the brakes and uses a lot less fuel. Tried to replace it with a DC2R earlier this year which I only drive about once a week and I just can't fall in love with it as great as the type R DC2 package is. I guess the split tailgates, stumpy tail and funky dashboard shape really does it for me.

My red paint has turned pinkish on the roof and needs polish every few mths to mask the fading. The only way to fix this longterm is to have it resprayed and have a coat of clear over the base.

Red_EG4
28-06-2007, 09:55 PM
thanks a lot EG30, you've got some sweet rides.
I tested my front speakers in the same way as my rears, resistance.
I found 4 ohms in the rear and no reading on the fronts, my electronics teacher put it down to age.
I also tested uses the wires from my computer speakers on the terminals with no sound at all.

I guess the split tailgates, stumpy tail ... really does it for me I couldnt agree more, I was really surprised by the split tailgate/hatch.
