View Full Version : Stolen DCR2

I met a bloke who despite having a good aftermarket alarm and 3 immobilisers on his DCR2, still managed to get it stolen. The crooks just brought there own towtruck and drove off with it.
What are good steps to prevent this? Parking with the rear facing out and putting clutch in 1st?

Nothing beats a flatbed. Get a tracking system and a tilt-sensitive alarm.

probly insurance job, panel beater needs the parts so they flog a car that has what they need, at practically no cost.

there wouldnt be many people that own flatbeds that arent panelbeaters/tow truck companies.

sure its possible, but the odds are against it.

Some ways to minimise risk of getting your car towed away (depending on budget)is to:
- park under light
- park between two cars (if parallel parking)
- good aftermarket immobiliser/alarm
- gps tracking
- tilt sensors/microwave
- good solid professional installation (security only as good as the install)

But I also believe that at the end of the day, if someone thinks your car is worth taking, they will take it - have the will, have the way.

lol trackers arent worth it to easy to find and when people have them the other security seems to be lax compared to those that dont

That's what I was gonna say, sleep with a gun next to ya.But who would want to live like that....
You could install a camera on the area where ya park it in the hope of catching the thiefs.
So they must have disabled the alarm B4 they loaded it on the flatbed yeh? otherwise it would have been wailing while they were driving it down the street.

Or get your car impounded so the cops are looking after your car…

if they want it they'll get it even with a good alarm. gps is too expensive. i suggest you invest in breeding german shepherds and dobermans and tie them around your car.

While this is so true, you still should put all the 'Layers' of security on your car that you possibly can.If you don't and your car gets jacked you will be like 'I should have done blah blah blah...'

respray your car white with blue square patterns. then get a set of flashing red and blue neons on the roof. sure it may get stoned occationally. but wont get stolen.

if they want it bad enough, nothing will stop em.

a mate of mine who had a 4wd and a boat (nice 1 to) , he came home from his afternoon walk to find his 4wd gone (boat still there), so he raced inside to call the cops, called them, and went outside to wait 4 the cops, when he got outside his boat had dissappeared aswell, the mungrels had come back and hooked up the boat to !

they were busted about a week later travelling into NSW lol

this is funny, i think the best way is to get an alarm that links to a hydraulic suspension setup so when you turn the alarm on the car sits on the road so they can't tow it, lift it, push it or watever.

professional installation is a major factor. I got one done for my 200 and the bastards couldn't steal it. I know for a fact that it was planned by one of the panel beaters/mechanics near my workplace cause i park my car their often at the same times to go to work. Had a club lock and they got around that by cutting my steering wheel. When i drove it home, i found all these crazy ass mechanic/panel beater tools that have been broken in attempt.
I finished work and i walked out and saw the towy. Luckily i got to the car before they attempted they tow it.

another thing, is cos security is getting better, alot of theives cannot get into cars these days, so the rate of car-jacking is thru the roof.

usually in melb or syd.

ur sittin at a set of lights someone walks up and tries to pull u out of car or thru the window (if door locked), usually happens to chicks more than guys, i remember reading this in the newspaper a few months ago.
