Hey guys, I just came back from bob jane with my new set of 16 inch auscar rims on bridgestone turanza tyres, I drive a 94 Civic VTi hatchback the problem is while I was driving home I noticed my wheel scrub in the guard while I turned a sharp corner, so I just like to know what I can do to fix this problem?

Thanks.

specify more details. What offset are the wheels, size, etc. And what size profiles are you running? It shouldnt be scrubing if ur car is at stock height. Is your car lowered?

Car is stock height, I dont have low profiles, for the sizes i'll have to check 2moz.

ohh and check if ur lining under the guard is lose or not stuck firmly, sometimes that can cause it, mine does that cause one side is a bit loose and hangs lower, but yeah my car is lowered though, your car shouldnt have any problems

i think maybe because your car might be rolling alot when you are cornering hard.

yeh probably body roll, or a combination of wrong offset, wrong tyre size?

body roll is definately an issue since ur car's on stock standard suspension. but wth the right wheels offset, there shudnt b much scrubbing.

being 16" the correct tyre size shud b either 195/45 or 205/45. if u have anything larger or smaller, your speedo reading will b off.

i dun think they'd give u a wrong tyre profile/size, but do check. most likely, ur problem here shud b the offsets of ur new wheels.

depending to wat extent the scrubbing issue is, if offsets are not awefully wrong or too aggresive, u might b able to get away by rolling ur guards/fenders.

The size says 195/55R16 is this still ok?

That's too high profile.

That's too high profile.

Meaning?

wrong tyres

sidewalls are too fat. u need thinner ones. plus, ur speedo is probably out of whack as well.

Well like Stitch said, for 16" the size should be either 195/45 or 205/45...not 195/55 like they've given you. That means the overall diameter of the tyre is too tall, or too high. It would also make your car sit taller from the ground, and throw your speedo off even more. Take a look at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html and have a play around, you'll soon get the idea.

so to sum it up, the guys at the tyre shop didnt know shit and sold u the wrong stuff - or you didnt specify clearly enough what you wanted.

basically ur speedo will underestimate the actual speed.... be careful around speed cameras..

I'm with stupid. ^^^ :)

Abit surprising from a tyre place like Bob Jane though. However, I believe Bob Jane has a 100% tyre satisfaction guarantee, if not they will refund or exchange them no questions asked. At least that is the policy at my local Bob Jane...won't hurt to ask, and if its clear as day that they didn't know shit and gave you the wrong tyre, they should change it. It's not your problem, it's theirs to fix.

if u're asking 'is it ok?' as in 'is it still safe?'

then yea, its ok. u can use the tyres as long as u're happy wth. its surprising enuf that cops will dig u for larger rims size, but they won do shiet if u choose to go wth way larger tyre profile. :)

but as stated by other as well, ur overall diameter of the wheel (rim + tyre) will be larger than recommended. ur speedo wil be off. if u think u can cope wth that, then its ur call.

but wth ur scrapping issue, getting the right tyre size will definately help. speak Bob Jane, see wat they can do.

205/45 will b good for ur application, trust me, it looks better too :)

Yes.. 205/45/16 is the good for your application.

i have 205/45/16 and theres no scraping when its lowered or when its at stock height.

i have 215/35/18's lowered and still have no scraping so the 55 profiles on 16's must throw your speedo way out! Be careful! Find out how much it throws your speedo out eg. mine throws mine out 5% so 60 is really 63, 80 is 84, etc i know how much it is out so you don't run into trouble
