markCivicVti

black8thgen
23-11-2008, 12:01 AM
oh really? hmm fair enough. anyone got recommendations for muffler/exhausts that give some reasonable sound?

amurray
23-11-2008, 07:47 AM
not bad, i still prefer the stock 3"+ dualies with the chrome tips though. Any improvements in performance from that exhaust?

There is not a huge differnace. but i can notice a small differnace.. cant put finger on it though... it sounds really nice.

amurray
23-11-2008, 07:49 AM
I have the Sprint booster Fitted.. You do get much better throttle response.. lol im still gettin used to it... but can be a pain tryin to hold it at low revs... its really touchy.. there is no gain in power only response

Ahh i see, how much is it incl. installation?

black8thgen
23-11-2008, 01:16 PM
its like a thing u just connect to the accelerator pad or something like that. meant to make response better. saw a vid of it on youtube and yeah, couldnt really tell if it made any difference from the vid =/

ej20i
23-11-2008, 04:31 PM
huh??okae den..will chek it out on youtube

amurray
23-11-2008, 04:54 PM
it is fitted in the footwell just above the accelorator. if u buy it from a shop they should install it for free.. after all.. it just plugs in lol

My exhaust is a full engine back

black8thgen
23-11-2008, 05:18 PM
ahhh i see. how much was the sprint booster? and where'd ya get it from?

amurray
23-11-2008, 05:39 PM
i got it from tripple 9 Automotive here in brisbane... i think it was around the 300 - 400.. i dont pay to much attention to costs lol

markCivicVti
23-11-2008, 06:30 PM
Lol... tripple nine quoted me around 500 when i tested it out.

Maybe I'll have another go at testing the sprint booster. I didn't notice it improving the response time, just changed it so that you didn't have to press the pedal as far down to open the throttle more...

black8thgen
23-11-2008, 07:35 PM
lol, i can just imagine how pissed off ill get at low revs in morning traffic... my poor foot.

amurray
23-11-2008, 09:29 PM
to tell you the truth.. nah.. its not...the only reason i could see the need is on the track and quick response out of corners and through gears.

black8thgen
23-11-2008, 09:30 PM
hahaha. i feel like getting one.. but need bit of doshhh

hahaha, well if its 300-400 bucks.. thats a bit much just for a thing that plugs in, but u cant get as much response out of the engine just by flooring it.. ah wells.

few friends more malaysia and singapore with FDs + sprint booster.
it does make your car more responsive, but its not worth it getting them here.

save your money and get a better intake, cat back system etc
even brake pads upgrade, you all should know the stock FD brakes are fkn sh*t.

markCivicVti

Must've been lowered I guess... or the rolling diameter has increased.

But trying to imagine a lip kit on it... that would make it look quite low.

yeah, a lip kit on that would look pretty sweet.

well there 20's and its been lowered a bit... but cant lower coilovers all the way due to scrubbing lol..

And not gettin a lip kit.. I have a little suprise coming Thanks to my importer. lol and its not a Type R kit :P

FallenAngel
30-11-2008, 01:15 PM

30-11-2008, 01:22 PM
There Cusco Zero GTs. there set to as hard as they go. lol.. there 8.5 wide. the problem is there offset 40.. i really need 45 or 48... im looking for a suitable rim atm

black8thgen
30-11-2008, 01:32 PM
do you reckon 9 width would fit? or is 8.5 the limit for FDs?

aaand would it be an ings kit coming?!

amurray
30-11-2008, 01:53 PM
haha... umm maybe lol.. ummm u could fit 9 or 9.5 with the right offset.. but i dont see the need.. lol.. umm... i kno u can fit a 9.5 x 18 with a 43 offset i think..

black8thgen
30-11-2008, 02:06 PM
ahh really? its just cos im looking into these work rims which are 18x8 fronts and 18x9 rears, so just wondering if it would fit without any scrubbing with a 1-2" drop lol.. gee i hope so...

amurray
30-11-2008, 02:12 PM
i know this fits on FD2Rs.. im not sure about normal fds...

[ F 18 X 9.5J +40 / R 18 X 8.5J +43 ]

Wayne
30-11-2008, 02:31 PM
dont forget FD2R's front fenders are slightly wider than normal FDs.. so it might be can put a wider wheels and lower offsets.. =)

oh ya.. as well as the brembo brakes.. the clearance has to be count as well.. but our FD dont have brembo brakes.. so need to be calculate wisely.. =)

black8thgen
30-11-2008, 02:32 PM
urgh.. so would the fronts be for the wider ones then? and the rears take the less wide ones? this is hard to figure out..

amurray

wats the ofset?

amurray
30-11-2008, 03:48 PM

black8thgen
30-11-2008, 03:55 PM
oh, really? ooops. lol. damn... what kind of offset is like.. the best for FDs? around 40-45?

well im not 100% sure.. but most seem to be between 45 and 52

I have been waiting to register for this forum for the past 2 weeks, and alas, finally allowed to post.

This is the 06' Civic we bought recently from a dealer, came with a few mods already
- Reverse Sensor
- Leather trim,
- Starcorp Racing 18" rims with 225/40/18 Nankang tyres.

My questions to all esepcially JaCe and Dmx as you two have done some nice mods is

Music
Jace - what's the OEM HU's like hook up to aftermarket amplifiers and speakers. Is it worth it?

I am looking to install an amp and 2 new set of speakers, looking at these for front speakers
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190268850250&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=009

and either one of these as the amp

http://www.lifestylestore.com.au/products/car/Kenwood/4-Channel-Amplifiers/kacx40d-kenwood/

Where did you get your stuff installed? I was quoted something like $350 for just those at Lifestyle!

Lights
I bought some DiamondVisions from ebay, but i've read that they get really hot and not good, should i swap them for HIDs?

Tinting
What's a good % for a silver Civic? I want 20-25% but i don't know what that's like sitting inside, and or what type of color? Dark blue or Blackish?

ill help you out with lights as im not so experienced in other areas you need so..

DiamondVisions - yes people have complained the philips bulbs do overheat and get way too hot for the glass casing (technical material escapes me). You dont necessarily need to go for a HID conversion kit, theres a trader here (LiquidSound), they sell MTEC halogen bulbs for a really good price and their great quality. heres a link:

hope that helped a bit.

as promised, some photos - however they're taken from Carsales as i am a bit lazy taking new ones, they look better than my photography skills anyway.

forget about euroline i had a set of them and they are crap too, their not even white if thats what your after. If you want the closest thing to white without going for HIDs i recommend these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Nokya-Arctic-White-H11-JDM-Headlight-light-bulbs_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3 a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3911Q 2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem250331780691QQitemZ2503317806 91QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

the brand is nokya, i ordered a set from this guy for my mums car and they are great. I haven't got them on the honda cos i got HIDs. Have a look through his shop is stocks all sizes. Try go for Stage 2 in this light bulb as well. A bit more expensive but worth it.

235/40/18 scrubs? WTF?! how low is your drop? shit.... what tyres should i get if i dont want them to scrub with 18s and a 1-2" drop?

Wayne
01-12-2008, 01:08 PM
scrubs or not scrubs is depends on ur offset.. even u get 17x6.5 with 5+ offset.. it will scrubs too.. =)

black8thgen
01-12-2008, 02:51 PM
soo 40 offset will scrub? damn.. cant get 35 then i guess..

jem.142
01-12-2008, 03:38 PM
my 235/40/18 +40 scrape like no tomorrow ... i hear 225 or 215s are perfect
i have a 2" drop but prior to my spring install i still had the same tires and that would still scrape

FallenAngel
01-12-2008, 03:48 PM
225 will scrub if you go over a ditch or bump other than that its ok.

Go 215

black8thgen
01-12-2008, 04:45 PM
ah, 215 would be fine even with a drop yeah? i think the stock FD2 michellin tyres are 215/45/17 if i remember correctly, either that or 225/45/17. wow 215 would be a bumpy ride..

bodaas
01-12-2008, 06:20 PM
18" rims scrub,, it could be the lowering spring too soft, wrong offset rims,

or maybe, your car really really low

black8thgen
01-12-2008, 06:28 PM
so 18s arent meant to scrub really? most likely be the offset of the rim and the tyres arent low profile enough i guess.

Wayne
01-12-2008, 06:38 PM
215 is for 7-7.5jj.. 225 is for 7.5-8jj.. 235 is for 8-8.5jj.. so depends on ur wheels..

if ur wheels is 18x8.5.. impossible u can use 215.. =)

bumpy or comfort ride is depends on the thickness of the tyre.. 35? 40? 45? 50?

as well as ur suspension setup as well.. BMW with 35 series VS normal hyundai on 40.. still BMW have more comfort.. =)

black8thgen
01-12-2008, 07:06 PM
ahh i see. Geeze i didnt think it was THAT complicated lol...

sooo what does the 215, 225 etc realy mean? is it the width of the tyre? so like... 215/40/17 is 215 as width, 40 as thickness, 17 as size? orr?? wow im confused now..

18z fit fine .. its all about offset ... keeping in mind the FD2R uses 18" wheels

black8thgen
01-12-2008, 08:36 PM
ah, i'll have to make sure i get some +45 or more offset then. just incase..

black8thgen
02-12-2008, 09:46 AM
yeahh thats pretty tempting to go for 19s, im just worried it will sit too low on the arches with a 2" drop and then scrub on the arches and front fenders..

ekdez
02-12-2008, 09:57 AM
the larger the wheel the further away the arch gets, cos the diameter of the wheel is growing... so the more u will need to drop the car to make the arch sit flush with the tire..

im on 19"s and i think i need a 2.5 - 3 inch drop to achieve my goal and that isnt even tucking.. well it might be on the tire.

btw springs dont alway drop to the suggested drop. its only an approx

black8thgen
02-12-2008, 10:07 AM
oh yeah, that makes more sense now actually...

yeahh, the springs im getting suggest a 2", but from customer reviews they say its really about 1.4". hmm might just be right for 18s then. price is the only thing stopping me from going 19s now i guess.

thanks for the help mate.

kazam
02-12-2008, 10:15 AM
u wont even notice a 1.4" drop bro... thats like a 1 finger gap...

black8thgen
02-12-2008, 10:41 AM
1 finger gap between arch and tyre? thats alright.. im not looking to drop so it overlaps or anything. nothing huge... skunk2 springs so yeah... unless i can find another good brand which doesnt cost so much and can drop 2-3" ill settle with the 1.4" drop on skunk2s =/

jem.142
02-12-2008, 11:11 AM
my suggested 2inch drop is barely noticeable to most people ... just dont expect your car to be "slammed" on a set of 18" or 19" or even 20"z

but i just put my springs in last week so maybe it needs time to sag

ekdez
02-12-2008, 12:18 PM
best bet is coilovers.. its worth it in the long run.

Wayne
02-12-2008, 04:33 PM
if u got a new set of spring.. it might be drop like 1.5"-2".. but after some time.. it will become lower like 2.5"-2.8".. =)

bear in mind if u use lower spring.. ur shock will tear faster than u match with stock spring.. =)

if u want the exact height.. can get adjustable suspension.. adjust to whatever height u like.. and good for long term use.. =)

black8thgen
02-12-2008, 04:45 PM
hmm, cost is just worrying me atm, sort of low on cash haha.

but yeah im not wanting it to be slammed or anything. so im content with a 1-2" i guess. but i reckon 2" drop is noticeable so its alright. then theres my dad.. who dropped his commodore 4" on 19s... although i think they sit up really high at stock anyway.

jem.142
02-12-2008, 07:22 PM
yeh i am expecting them to sag alot due to king springs reputation i guess well c how it goes ...

latest DEmodification: took out SRI, it was causing the Malfunction Light to come on ... my guess is temperature was way 2 high in enginebay and the O2 censor was playing up so stock box for summer it is

black8thgen
02-12-2008, 07:32 PM
wow really? damn... oh well only 3 months without the SRI, then you got a whole 9 months haha. but that would be abit annoying having to take it out? thikning of getting it checked up?

hmm how long have you had the kings in for?

markCivicVti
02-12-2008, 07:53 PM

bodaas
02-12-2008, 08:09 PM
my opinion kings spring alright,,, or eibach, tein,, its only couple hundred dollar its around same price,,

check ebayy

i wouldnt spend too much on coilover suspension, if you car is only for street use, or mostly drive on busy road,, stock shock absorber + aftermarket spring more than good enough,,
especially if you only want to drop few inches from standard height

just save $$$ for upgrade sounds system or buy other accesories

FallenAngel
02-12-2008, 11:42 PM
In the long run, it is worth getting coilovers rather than spending less on springs now. In the long run, if your using OEM shocks, they will basically die on you because it doesn't absorb anything and you'll bounce! (which is really annoying over speed humps).

Just got my D2 Coilovers in recently and i do regret a lot on spending on the springs as its so much better and worth it in the long run to have.

Also i'd avoid tracking with just springs as the car will be much less agile as it would be with OEM sussy.

nah once you know how to take out the stock box its really simple to do ... less than 20min id say ...

ive had my springs in for about a week ... thinking of getting new tread or new rims all together because i want dish! VIP stylez

Interesting... how long did you have the SRI in? My understanding is if it doesn't trigger the CEL (check engine light) within hours of first installing it then it will never.

I've had my SRI in for maybe half a yr... not sure now.

ive had my intake for about a week before the CEL came up ... basically was running fine until yesterday afternoon ... im guessing the amount of heat soak due to engine + really hot weather was giving out really bad A/F ratios (mind u i was running the engine really hard)... but then i let the car cool down for awhile and put the stock box back in, the CEL disappeared and all systems are go ... im planing to put it back in in a few days ... and i guess we'll c what happens from there

the only internals ive seen avaliable for the FD2 is OEM JDM Civic type R pistons and rings to suit the FD2 which cost about $600 bucks from memory.

erm the grill and V-lip (splitter i call it) is from overseas. I could get you one but it would have to be made here and molded which is very costly. Mine is a full solid carbon piece. i'm not sure how much the plastic splitter is, but could be a cheaper option to buy that and then CF over it.
A person has pm me about just getting their normal honda Chrome part CF. Not sure if they are going ahead with the option. On the other hand don't think you can get my grill here, haven't seen it being sold.
If you start heading to making molds it would be cheaper if more people want it than just one, so they can split the cost of making the mold. Otherwise just CF over your parts.

weight ? total = lighter than stock..lol
330 rotor, 8.1 kg + 4 pot caliper, 3.8 kg = 11.9kg each side.
stock rotor, 6.3 kg + stock 2 pot caliper, 5.9 kg = 12.2 kg
LOL.. will give the pic later, don't remember saved in which HDD folder..
only ssbh heavier a few grams, but new rear brake line bracket lighter a few grams, so even!

still waiting the rear rotor arrive to reach brake balance.

Sorry to quote from so long ago but I had a quick Q.

I'm looking at getting some tyres for my 18" 7.5jj rims. Now the trick is I'm running +35 offset (unsure if its definitely guard rolling territory). The trial fit without tyres looks good tho.

So to keep the overall diameter I'm looking at either 215x40x18 or 225x40x18. What would be the noticeable difference? If I wanted to drop a couple of inches (keeping in mind the offset) is it "safer" to go with the 215s? I'm guessing 215 would need to be "stretched" a little more than 225s right and hence would be less likely to scrub? So whats the actual noticeable differences?

if u want the safest choice.. Toyo Proxes T1-R in 205/35/R18.. this is the super rare model available in the market.. not sure can u get in australia or nop.. hehe.. im using this tyre in my home country car.. look sexy and roxx.. =)

but since u afraid the scrubbing.. get 215 instead of 225.. for ur own good.. =)

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4836/img1987rd5.jpg Source: Google.com

or perhaps Toyo Proxes 4 in 205/40/R18.. but 35 will look lower abit.. hehe.. =)

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8062/editedqm7.jpg Source: tech9tyres.com.au (edited abit for easier looking)

from the pics.. it shows that doesnt mean 225 is wider than 215 than the price will be higher.. the narrower.. the more expensive.. compare 205 with 225.. hehe.. =)

Kup, Mine is Mugen RR replica, there's aircoop on the bonnet, you wont be able to see it on the picture (similar to the picture above) but I am coming over this saturday to say hello to you guys! you are most welcome to have a look..One thing that I am not too keen about the cf bonnet it self is the texture, its not as good as J's Racing but hey i like the model alot.

We are still meeting up this saturday right?

Heaps sellers here that sells J's racing but you are looking potentially 3K and up for J's racing and their air scoop are soo big you could suck a rabbit in or worse roos. I could ask the same guy to deliver the bonet again if you like?

Mind you delivery can be very costly because my bonnet was around 1800 delivered with DHL. So what I did was grab other items within the same delivery because the delivery was cap max so you could add all you want in the same "box".

is the carbon hood like, lighter than the stock? like is there much point to the carbon hood?

edit: and also, with those with the mugen kit. Did your kit come with some rubber beating to go inbetween the lip kit and the body of the car? and if it did, does it seem to show a gap or anything? like is it thick rubber?

Wayne
12-12-2008, 09:06 PM
of coz CF hood lighter than the stock.. but the point for normal modifier is just cosmetic purpose.. rarely people use it as performance as the CF hood u find nowadays are mixed with other material like fibre.. not 100% pure CF.. =)

Anything which is not from stock is illegal....no matter Full cf or not....most cf bonnet in the market is base on Fibreglass with CF cover.....Even Geniune items. Full CF bonnet are made by Dry carbon which is really pricey.....I don't believe there is any full carbon items on street in Aus atm.......:p

no a pure CF hood is illegal. if carbon is laid over a fiberglass hood, its not illegal. cops have driven pass me didn't pull me over. got stopped on the road for speeding, cop didn't say anything, all they said was "really nice car mate, but i'm sorry i have to give you this ticket" and i have alot of CF on my car

woah $1800 delivered! i think you got ripped off mate, in my opinion anyway. mine was around ~1000 cheaper also delivered. but of course mine had no vents, but still shouldn't have costed so much. i checked how much the RR hood cost and its not much more than mine.
