In which category?

On another note, bodykits won't transfer over exactly/smoothly. You'll need to make adjustments.

Drive shafts are coping fine, as long as you aren't practising full launches (on hill climbs where you start from a stationary position 4k seems optimum for me, anything above and i just smoke the shit out of the tires.) and on rolling starts such as circuit racing it seems to be all good.

Videos being uploaded to youtube later when i can be bothered.

Ps. Bodass is a douche.

ah thats good! what would you classify as a full launch though? because any higher than 4k then it would be a burnout and not a proper launch right? ive been taking my car to the drags (trying to get the bloody thing to run into the 15's, but i consistently get 16 flats) and ive been wondering if im doing damage to anything

What about the 09 FD2R vs. the AUDM FD2?
Im sure you could get it working.

I noticed on 8thcivic.com they swap over even the bonnets and fenders to get the OEM type-r kits to fit.

It will cost you in excess of $5k, prob closer to $10k to get original OEM CTR kits for it though.

Im thinking of getting the replica CTR kit for my G/F 09 vti.

hey..hey..hey.. back again from guantanamo bay:D

Regardless if used for track or not i'd invest in some decent brakes as they are the ONLY thing allowing you to stop. ..
agree. save 2 x my life

yeah.. i reckon stock brakes on my fd2 are fine.. dont experience any lag in the brakes or anything like that.. but then again its still basically new.. so maybe later when things start to go wrong i might invest in some new pads or something.. but for now id rather spend that money on a good set of rims + tyres prob.
after u upgrade ur brakes, you will notice the diff. compare to upgrade decent tyres. brakes upgrade will make your car stop at the spot where you want, guarantee!!!
but if with tyres upgrade only, still make ur car little bit slide due to rotor torque

Carbon Bonnet

Resprayed V-Lip flat black

flat black --> yellow --> flat black. $$$

im looking at exhausts, intake and coilovers, will parts for FD2R fit onto our civic sport FD2?
exhaust --> yes, but $$$=Mugen exhaust, so better get Mugen
intake --> No, need minor modif.

yes, need get fd2r fender to fit fd2r bumper to FD
better get replica, direct bolt on FD, but at the end, you still need front skirt for fd2r bumper, otherwise looks similiar like 09 FD :(
so my 2cents, just get bodykits, whatever, ings+, mugen, modulo, custom, etc.

I have only tried one redline clutch dump on the semis so far (to see how hard I could launch it) and the car was fine with it (was during hill climb event on a normal road surface). I would be a bit skeptical at launching hard on the drag strip though cause the level of grip is on a whole different level and very well could possibly snap something :P.

However for standard launches I am an utter noob and generally start around 4000 and modulate to 5000 depending on the surface to find an optimal rev range. Flat 16s is quite decent in our cars :P I know when I last went down with a horrid set of regals I was getting 16.2 or something crap like that launching at around 6000 cause I wanted to destroy the tyres haha.

One other thing with regards to semis is, despite what people say, I personally don't think they wear out stupidly fast. Well mine havent anyway haha. Maybe I am not driving hard enough but I cannot notice any tread loss after 2 hard driving events and putting around Collie in between.

Buy a set and see how you go next time and keep us updated :)

still researching prices, 55EXX (username on this forum) gave me a phone number of the place where he got his done - tint express or something, i'll forwad u the pm. he got 15% for 200 bucks which was not 'great' quality tint..

he's got 20% 3M tint now but cant remember how much he said it cost.. i think tint-a-car place would do it for 295 - midnight express or whatever the darkest legal they have which is 35%.. its legal but doesnt look that great, i want 20 but insurance n stuff.. :(

i'll pm u now

EKDEZ - lookup 'touge tune' i think they're called; trader here on OH and they sell oem style fogs for fd for 145!!! that's where i'll be buying them, not sure if that price includes postage..

Just buy them from Honda for 450 and then install them yourself, that's what I did, the install isn't that hard because they are oem and everything comes ready in the box. Including the stalk to turn on the fogs :D

.k.
07-03-2009, 10:26 PM
including stalk hey.. but thats gonne be -> 450 - 150 = 300 price difference for genuine + a stalk haha.. is it the exact same stalk with the added little thing to turn the fogs off? or like an addition? - id rather a button on the side which i can flick to turn the fogs on n off but not too fussed really

how was installation for you? hard / easy? tips / diy link ? ^_^

Stig
08-03-2009, 12:55 AM
Although yes it's a bit more pricy but the wiring won't piss you off when you try to install it yourself compared to the aftermarket kits. You get a brand new stalk which you replace with the old one. Install was prob moderate, just follow the instructions that is supplied and you should be fine. Took me around 6 hours to install mine but if I was to do it again I rkn it would only take like 2, I was too scared to tug at the bumper to take it off so I wasted like a few hours there. But then again if you guys aren't that fussed then just go aftermarket.

civic_07
08-03-2009, 10:52 AM

08-03-2009, 01:44 PM

civic_07
08-03-2009, 01:46 PM
oops, didn't mention that it was done privately, he just bought the foggies fr Honda and did it at his place, around $400 for everything back in 2007. He took his time to do everything nice and neat so prepare yourself if you attempt DIY.

not sure about Honda will install aftermarket kit, some1 asked abt this b4 so do a search :).

Just do it dodgy rice style strip the wire a bit and connect the wires together and electrical tap them all together haha...

i would also like to find a place to buy a replica mugen kit, tho i only want a lip kit for my fd1.
the only place i can see that has a pretty good price is the one on ebay... although i have no idea on how much more it would cost to paint it.
i think earlier in this thread, a couple of guys were picking up replica kits in melb or syd for less than $500?? if there are any more places like that, i would like to get in contact with them to see if they can freight up to brisbane.

It'll really depend on whether I'm gonna be worried about rain water dripping into the SRI through the vented bonnet... as the SRI is really quite good.

why not just cover that side vent up. from underneath. it'd be cheaper for you in the long run.

i know it defeats the purpose of a vent but having said that...

why run a CAI if your worried about rain... running a cai your more likely to suck up water by going through a puddle..

up to you tho..

black8thgen
14-03-2009, 09:33 AM
wouldnt the vent reduce the chance of heat problems with an SRI? guess u got a bit of a dilemma lol.

yess, i agree.. dont bother spraying your OEM stock grill, keep it aside

ive got a FD2R grill, sprayed it black matching the car colour, and put on aluminium meshes on behind and sprayed that black too.. last addition is place a genuine red H on the grill.. very nice.. HOWEVER, im not entirely too sure if the FD2R grill would fit on nice onto the OEM front bumper.. u may need to DIY to get it to fit unless u go get a FD2R front bumper.

aero
18-03-2009, 03:26 PM
u can get them to fit, but u will need to have some sort of adhesive like double sided 3m tape on the bottom part of the grille to hold it securely against the oem fd1 bumper.
im looking to spray my oem grille because im just that cheap and dont want to spend the extra $250, especially after ive already bought red fd badges :p

btw johnny, what was the painting process? couple coats of primer then few coats of black spray paint followed by coats of finish? any particular brands?

does anybody know how to apply leather trim to the door panels of the FD? im gonna to try and DIY this. apparently ur just supposed to use like contact glue or sumthin and just glue the trim inserts over the standard ones?

ej20i - its better to contact adam from 999 for an accurate pricing, ask him for the skunk2 knob aswell! they work well together.

the shift travel is only reduced by around 20% as stated on skunk2.com which is y i like it so much, not too short and it gives a more accurate feel when engaging gears.

QUICK QUESTIONS... i did a search and couldnt find much.. this relates to handling

Front Strut braces
is it better to get a 3p brace (connect from the 2 towers to the front.. lik the cusco front brace) or the 2p brace (connect only the 2 towers.. lik ultra racing and hypertec front braces) ?? Any big differences?

Sway bars
Also another question.. for FF cars like our FDs .. is it better to only get a rear sway bar or is it necessary to get both front and rear sway bar for the car to be balanced??

rk 86 wa
28-03-2009, 02:38 PM
im using cusco 3 pt and its not really that great.

front feels a bit stiffer on track but mounting points used are crap.

the tower mounts are strong but the front radiator frame mount is crap.

the front radiator frame is something like a 2 mm aluminium plate which literally flexes if you twist with your arms.

Id personally go a 2 point if you must buy one but other than that id save your money and buy sway bars imho.

ej20i
28-03-2009, 09:04 PM
im using a two points rite now, the mounting point i have to say i was disapointed...its not the usual mounting points on the strut tower top but next to it on top of the stock strut bar
u can take a look at my diy, i did a diy on fd front strut

rk 86 wa
29-03-2009, 01:24 PM
can you link us? I would like to see how the mounting points differ

FallenAngel
29-03-2009, 09:24 PM
Get the rear sway bar first as it will provide a more direct turn-in. I'm planning to get one very soon.. The strut can wait IMO

Waternmo
29-03-2009, 10:38 PM
cusco actually has 2 diff front strut bar for the FD, the other one is 2 point for the type R but i assume it'll fit the audm FD2. the purpose for a strut bar is to balance the front strut and transfer the force from one strut top to another so i dunno how it is done with the 3 point style, but at the end i wouldnt question cusco's design.

sway bar is said to be one of the most effective mod for a car's handling, for a FF car, rear sway bar upgrade is more important, u can get both F and R at the same time but never get the F without the R.

xqwzit
30-03-2009, 10:50 AM
U will lose the turn in response with front sway bar however the car will corner flatter. If u planning to get one get the rear sway bar first. U will feel the difference immediately. On normal daily driving turning will be more comfy as u can feel the rear is alot flatter and joins with the front. However the car will be slightly bumpier. I have ultra racing 16mm cause I heard the 19mm or higher will fk the endlinks then u have to weld the bar onto the car. The front strut bar itself wont make much diff compared to rear sway bar. I have both on mine and I'm satisfied with it for a daily car. I won't bother with other bars, if u want to take it to the next level just get a set of coilovers then you are done with handling mods

rk 86 wa
30-03-2009, 11:19 AM
^ all good info, and i agree 100% just buy a set of coilovers if you want the best bang for buck.

JOhnnyFD
30-03-2009, 12:43 PM
touche guys

i've already ordered in coilovers and see how the handling goes first... just wanting to know about extra handling features lik strut braces and sway bars.

i believe for the cusco sway bars its.. Front 28mm and Rear 23mm ... is there a limit to the width size of ONLY putting on a rear sway bar (e.g limit to 19mm on the rear, anything above that i would need to put in the front sway bar???)

xqwzit
30-03-2009, 02:45 PM
theres no limit, i wont recommend a front sway bar anyway for FF cars, you want the rear to be stiffer than the front.

larger rear sway bar = more oversteer. as i mentioned above,Front strut bar and RSB is all you need to match with your coilovers, other bars are just a waste of money.

keep in mind that anything bigger than 16mm for RSB will fk your endlinks. unless you want it permanently by welding it on.

Waternmo
30-03-2009, 09:59 PM
oh so the cusco 23mm will fk the endlinks? but its not recommended to upgrade endlinks by cusco... lucky i read this, just ordered j's racing strut brace was about to order cusco RSB too, better find out more first...

http://a7.vox.com/6a00fad697b9e80004011017b0d02f860e-500pi

And when it goes on I'll be likely to go from SRI to CAI... so my TopFuel zero-1000 SRI (partly carbon fibre too) will be up for grabs.. has served me well for 6mths.

http://a3.vox.com/6a00fad697b9e8000400fad6a204230005-500pi

It'll really depend on whether I'm gonna be worried about rain water dripping into the SRI through the vented bonnet... as the SRI is really quite good.

hey mark how much was ur new CAI? I am on a typhoon K&N SRI at the moment and it uses WAY too much fuel without enough takeoff performance ot even decent improvement till about 5k RPM. Are u worried about water getting into your CAI at all? Especially if it's been lowered.

Also, on another note, does anyone know if 8 width tyres fit on the Civic FD1 (8th gen) when the car's been lowered? I have 7.5 at the moment and they almost look fat enough, I'm thinking if I put 19s with 40 profile I'm going to have to get the guards beaten to allow for pot holes and standard suspension movement.

xqwzit
31-03-2009, 12:21 PM
I am on a typhoon K&N SRI at the moment and it uses WAY too much fuel without enough takeoff performance ot even decent improvement till about 5k RPM.

you wont find improvements with the CAI, even less low end power compared to SRI.

Waternmo
31-03-2009, 12:32 PM
intakes with longer n smaller pipe = less max power gain but better for mid rpm torque
intakes with shorter n bigger pipe = more max power gain but will sacrifice low - mid rpm torque a bit. but since the piping is so short, u get more direct air flow n responsive if u suddenly step onto the accelerator.

but overall, unless u put it on dyno with the results in numbers, u probably wont feel a diff, as i've tried a number of intake in my old car and the biggest difference was high rpm with a SRI n the response when i step on n off the accelerator, dat was about it...

it does... I still remember I got 200km's out of the first half because I was on the freeway most of the time. Then the second half, I did about 90-100km before the light came on which was pure city driving.

Hmm, well for the other guys who are getting 400-500 a tank, what driving you guys do most the time? I'm guessing short bursts of driving would reduce the mileage capacity.

i used to get 500 easy before the light came on (stock) and ever since i started modding it's gone less efficient...maybe coz im more heavy footed with the mods? haha...i dunno...but 250km seems too little...my friends gtr r32 gets 300 out of a tank and that's turboed and badly tuned.

The civic is tuned from the factory to run 91, so anything other than that will be less efficient.

even fd2s? - does any1 use e10 with their fd1? i used it once and only got like 500k's and the fuel light came on so never used it again.. + im always too scared and when i fillup i always have at least 8 litres left.. how do we measure it to get closer to using the 50L tank?

curtis265
08-04-2009, 10:05 AM
I use 95RON on an R18 engine. The manual recommends it, so i thought i'd try it... I used to use ULP before, but i can't remember what mileage i got from it.

When i refill i calculate my fuel efficiency. The best i got from PULP was 7.2 L/100km, and the worst was 8.4. I usually get high 7's.

I can't remember as far back as ULP.

FallenAngel
08-04-2009, 10:57 AM
You can go all the way down till the fuel gauge even has no bars left... You will still have about 5-10L left in the tank... And should be able to travel about 10kms at the least.. I've tried it xD

car looks awsome johnny!

question to everyone - the new fd front bar (09+) does it fit on older fd's? and would the modulo lip kit fit from 08 fit new 09? or is the body completely different?

just asking because i like look of new front bar and wondering if my modulo lip would fit on it if i was ever able to obtain one :)

aero
12-04-2009, 05:50 AM
i dont think a modulo lip would fit on the 09 FDs. the standard front bumper on the 09s have a little kind of lip at the bottom, which isnt there in the standard 06-08 civics.

but i think i read somewhere in a thread that it would be possible to transplant a 09 front onto a 06-08 model.
