bodaas
15-09-2009, 12:54 PM
i believe more noticeable with the hissing sound coming from the intake. The performance should be the same or could be slower, dont judge by your feeling then you are wrong.
If you running stock ecu, your fuel/air ratio should be remain the same, no matter how big is your intake or the filter holes are.

that's right.. the only result coming out of this.. is smoother revs maybe.. but further tuning is needed for power gains..

Here's sometihng i found - someone give it a shot on the mugen lip or OEM lip...

HD-Racing

We all love those $200+ front lips and splitters. But in reality some of us don't have pockets that deep to afford them or some of us are lowered and know that we will either crack, shatter, and/or destroy those beautiful pieces or work. For those who want a cheaper route and want to add a little something to the front without spending the big $ here is the option for you:

Hey, if you mess it up.....it costs about $10 to replace :woowoo:

Step-1

Go to Home Depot:

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h138/xxchampionxx16/HomeDepot-l.jpg

Step-2

Pick up garage door bottom seal. They come in two different size packs, 9ft. should be enough, get 2 if you think you will mess up. (part #03749). (also notice that there is a foam type and a hard rubber type, i prefer the foam).
You will also need to pick up double-sided tape. Black tape is more suitable because less is seen when it is black. You will need a good amount of tape.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h138/xxchampionxx16/e87b8705.jpg

Step-3

Place double sided tape on smaller edge of the weather stripping.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h138/xxchampionxx16/aafcdc41.jpg

Step-4

Clean the bottom surface of the bumper or HFP lip to apply the HD-R. Then take off the top cover on tape to prepare it to stick on bumper. Only do small sections as a time. When applying the lip around the bumper, make sure it sits flush and evenly. Go slow, take your time, and make sure to get the tape to stick evenly before moving on. When you get to the end just cut off the extra weather stripping and make it flush with the bumper.

Step-5

Step back and examine your nice new mod!

Here is it on a few members cars from the site: (Thanks for allowing me to use your pictures!)

aero i gotta do my door trims first lol study = gg

curtis265
18-09-2009, 11:04 PM
guys i strongly recommend tape.. it's not so permanent.. and if u get good enough tape, you should have no problems. Here's another DIY on it with screws.

A friend of mine did this on his wrx and since it came out pretty clean I decided to do it myself. All you need is a garage door bottom seal from your local home depot which goes for about $8.67 for 9ft, and of course some screws. Double sided tape is optional.

The Garage Door Bottom Seal I purchased looked like this:

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/Exterior-Style-Mods/car_3.jpg

This is a before shot with the main ingredient laying on the ground:

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/Exterior-Style-Mods/car_2.jpg

Align and stretch the seal along the bottom of your bumper to see where to cut the excess. Unfortunately, being that I suffer from chronic laziness I did not measure it for you, I apologize. You'll soon learn that you must cut around some plastic which is on your bumper to have the seal sit correctly. The following pic shows the simple cut I made to get around the plastic:

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/Exterior-Style-Mods/car_5.jpg

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/Exterior-Style-Mods/car_6.jpg

Now simply start carefully screwing the seal to your bumper where you see fit. If you choose to use double sided tape this is where you'd need it to help the seal stick b4 you start poking holes through your bumper.

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/Exterior-Style-Mods/car_7.jpg

Thats it. After shots:

Are these typhoon kits open cone systems within the engine bay, if they are you could be losing power not gaining as its sucking in air at higher temps, better to go for a closed system or one the feeds from outside the engine bay

curtis265
19-09-2009, 12:33 PM
the idea is that it's not as restrictive... the stock air intake is in the engine bay anyway

Yeah but its a closed system and feed air from outside of the engine bay, most peeps think that a typhoon intake is making more power because they hear an induction roar when infact they are losing power due to its location and hot air temps from the engine

sooo....... i had time to take apart my air filter today to try DIY the GruppeM. I've read that the FD2R hose is bigger than our one in the SG forums quote:
"Dia of Flexi hose for FD2R is 3" and FD2 is 2"+. And sensors are different too."
... guess what they are RIGHT! lol :thumbdwn:
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1628/p1020551e.jpg

the inner diameter of the adapter is 80mm. so i need a hose that is bigger. Anyone have ideas? get a silicone tube from original size to adapter that is about 20-30mm long? Is it easy to find or make up?

Apparently BMC CDA intake with M&M Scoop is one of the best intake for FDs.
BMC CDA looks like the Simota Intake. Below is just pics of BMC CDA (Carbon Dynamic Box)

JOhnnyFD

black8thgen

would u reckon a rear sway bar or the beaks bar is better?

JOhnnyFD
05-10-2009, 01:42 PM
rear sway bar for better handling (reduce understeer)... tie-subframe acts kinda like a rear strut brace (reduce chassis flex)

black8thgen
05-10-2009, 01:59 PM
ah ok, so in terms of 'bang for buck', beaks or rear strut?

edmbranch
05-10-2009, 02:00 PM
ah ok, so in terms of 'bang for buck', beaks or rear strut?

get both..

JOhnnyFD
05-10-2009, 02:07 PM
haha... imo, i would get the beaks coz it supports my cusco rear sway bar

with a rear strut brace, its located in the boot area and its in the way.. also u need to cut away the boot coverin to fit the strut brace

i think a front strut brace is good enough... front wheel drive car, flexin more in the front

if u want a totally rigid chassis, go for the whole package

xqwzit
05-10-2009, 02:46 PM

xqwzit

cuscos 23mm wont fk up endlinks because it have the proper reinforcements
if you getting UR which i have got, get 16mm will be fine with the endlinks
16mm is enough for street use i reckon, the car will be harsher

EDIT: UR now provides reinforcements for the 19mm, 16mm i think you have to get them seperately, not too sure but will be fine without

JOhnnyFD

oh ok, yeah i just disconnected the positive one and then i put it back on. no light today. see tomorrow

your intake has the hole for the maf housing.. rite?

intake doesn't have a maf housing. cause i asked about it and yeah the guy said it was weird that the FDs don't have maf sensor. i think the FD2R has a maf housing, the FD2 is just a normal air sensor just behind the filter. i got the sensor put back on the pipe, its just hidden under the piping. the sensor might be a bit lose cause it doesn't make a click sound when i push it in like normally.

just gotta wait a few days and see what happens i guess. i'd be very unhappy if it doesnt work out after spending huge amount of money on it. for an intake anyway

curtis265
08-10-2009, 08:55 PM

liquid23

i dunno i took it to Vision R and the guy said it isn't a MAF sensor because of something different.
well i looked up google:
"When a MAF is used in conjunction with an oxygen sensor, the engine's air/fuel ratio can be controlled very accurately. The MAF sensor provides the open-loop predicted air flow information (the measured air flow) to the ECU, and the oxygen sensor provides closed-loop feedback in order to make minor corrections to the predicted air mass"

I think mine is only an air(O2) sensor because he said a MAF sensor i wouldn't need to worry about putting the sensor back on the intake. Also looking at FD2Rs intake system there isn't a sensor where ours is and you can't see the sensor anywhere on the pipe. Cause i was wondering where to put the sensor when i looked at the GruppeM diagram of the FD2R. Unless its somewhere hidden. maybe ask that guy that's moving this FD2R over here haha.

meh who knows i just want my intake to be normal and work again :(

xqwzit

fd2r uses a map sensor which is located on the intake manifold while our fd2 uses maf on the intake pipe hence theres no opening for the sensor on the gruppe m.

also...

One thing i can confirm is that our rides are VERY sensitive to modifications at the low end. The MAF sensor is also very sensitive and has to be exactly the same diameter where the MAF sensor is located on the intake track.

found on vtec temple.

intake pipe for fd2r is 3" and our fd2 is 2"

so most likely it wont work

K20z2/3/4 all use MAF sensor, the reason you are getting a CEL because you've removed it from the air stream, now the engine doesn't know how much air is going into the cylinders and therefore does not know how much fuel to pump in. The ECU is smart enough to go into a limp mode when the MAF reading doesn't make sense. So either find a way to put the MAF into the pipe, in which case it still might not run as well cause its very sensitive (atleast no CEL?) or find an intake that has a mounting hole for the MAF. The MAF sensor housing also houses the Intake Air Temp sensor, so that needs to be in the air stream too.

Frost_FD
09-10-2009, 03:50 PM
That makes so much more sense.
Didnt think a fd2 didnt have a MAF.
Even my fd1 has one and the injen CAI has a perfect spot to mount it on.

Cant you just mount it in the trunk somewhere else instead of back into that crappy little spot? I was thniking going baller and putting LED strips around the trunk. That'd be siiiiik cuz!

ive got purple led strips all around my boot, including one in my sub (thanks to tim haha) - it lights up pretty well, but a white t10 LED in the proper socket is very helpful too haha =]

if ur gonna put an extra light (neon, led) in your boot, just wire up to ur trunk light. I did it a while back. From memory i got a terminal block. Soldered the wire onto the trunk light plate. Then attached additional lights to it. But i need to check again

Keep the bulb in the wedge. All you need is to touch some wires to the plate where the bulb sits. When i get a chance this weekend, ill take a pic

black8thgen
14-10-2009, 11:08 PM
nah doing it to the plate is dodgy if u dont solder, i had that first time but i guess if u do solder its fine, but a hassle kinda - just splice into the wires leading into the clear plastic casing =]

superducktail.

I'd tap it anyday... it's not too outrageous like a type-R or mugen wing..

the only thing is the little cutout for the badge. Not good.
