ahhh true? got a pic?

they're black ones and got plenty of tread and pretty damn cheap... just that i might have to buy uni books hence the two week delay

uni books suck - suck so hard =.=....... delaying my carbon wrappinggg

Carbon wrap books hahaha

EDIT: Wheels will not fit without either
1.) machining Sti wheel hubs from 56.3 to 64.1mm - will bolt up and have around 3mm clearance from OEM STi tire 225/45/17 potenza RE70 tire to shock with factory camber at full negative. The use of a plain 3mm universal spacer can probably get you enough room to run camber bolts. I have no idea of clearance of other tires. 235s might have less space depending on the way the rim protector is built. The RE70 has a small rim protector and the tire is very square giving a tread width like that of a 235.

2.) Extended studs and use universal spacers hubcentric to 64.1 OEM bore.

3.) install extended wheel studs and use wheel spacers for a 56.3 hub bore and machine back side 7mm deep to fit 64.1mm hub. This saves you from machining wheels and more shops might be able to do this for you b/c of the size product they are machining. Would not require the cost of dismounting tires from rims if you bought them used this way.

4.) no machining would require 20mm or 25mm spacers that are not hubcentric - the ones the bolt on to existing studs and have studs installed into the spacers. The studs might still come in contact with the back side of the wheel. I HAVE NOT tried this way but I have measured and think it COULD work.

I run 1pc 25mm spacers hub centric to my Honda which have a lip making them hubcentric for 64.1mm wheels to fit on. The BBS wheels fit perfectly on them since they were machined precisely.

NOTES:
* 5mm spacers do not allow enough thread engagement from stud to lug. I do not reccomend 5mm spacers b/c you will get less than 4.5 turns. They ultimately require extended studs which are a pain and pricey to install.
* 3mm spacers get you 5.75 turns on my std tuner lugs and 6.5 with the lug nuts shaved down for earlier thread engagement on stud.
*
* Disclaimer - I am not responsible if you can't get this setup to work on your car for any reason
* Disclaimer - I am not responsible for you getting your wheels machined to the wrong dimension (correct is 64.1 and tell them to go 0.002 - 0.005 over the std inch conversion of 64.1)
* Disclaimer - I am not responsible for you using too large of a spacers and your wheels falling off b/c of this modification
* Disclaimer - I am not responsible if you do something stupid PERIOD!!

So in short, I found a great deal on Some 05+ Sti rims with tires. 17x8 +53, clear brembos and all that good stuff. Forged BBS 17.5lbs a rim. Came with good condition 6-7/32s on Potenza RE70 tires. 225/45/17 but they look like 235s fo sho. Awesome wheel for DD or track.

Downside is I need to machine the hub out from 56.3mm to 64.1mm.

Should I spend $200 to get these machined to fit? I already have 2 sources that will do the work. Will require 5mm spacer to fit with enough clearance to shock. To run camber bolts up front I would have to use a 10mm spacer which would still work and be about a perfect fit but will require extended wheel studs which I should get anyways since I will be tracking the car. I shouldn't need spacers in the rear but I haven't test fit back there yet. Prob will tomorrow. Cost me about $100 to get tires dismounted and mounted/balanced again. So a $300 mod here

These wheels look good on GG coupes! A rarity!

EDIT: updated pictures lowered
My DD set of rims, STi BBS rims, still with 225/45/17 RE70 tires. Specially machined rims to fit our car.
25mm Spacer front and 3mm rear of course shown here with -2.9 camber front and -2.5 rear.

Un-machined wheel: After wheel was sinched up with lugs evenly, there was room for a 5mm allen plus a tad slop. We'll call it a straight 5mm.
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC00940.jpg

being that the wheel is already spaced out 5mm from rotor which was bolted to hub, we are left with about 6mm clearance b/t shock and tire. Perfect!

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC00942.jpg

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC00944.jpg

another 5mm space might allow for camber bolts to be used up front but I think I'm just going to get camber plates.

Full lock front clearance

Full lock rear clearance

Rear clearance spaced out 5mm
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC01094.jpg

Big diff in tire size although this 225/45/17 potenza RE70 looks to be very wide. Maybe a 235 width.
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC00933.jpg

Fender clearance front - approx 12-15mm more room to go out. wheel at approx +48 offset so a +35 offset should work without rubbing
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC01067-1.jpg

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC01065.jpg

Rear fender clearance stock ride height - with lowering there will be more clearance b/c of camber gain.
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o205/pwrslide2/08%20Civic%20Si/DSC01068-1.jpg

btw - can someone please explain why aftermarket wheel nuts cannot be used on OEM honda wheels? tim gave me an explanation but it doesn't make enough sense in my head now =.=...

Stig
18-02-2010, 11:40 PM
simple terms, you can...

but its not recommended because the aftermarket wheel nuts will not make full contact with the oem wheel wells which causes more stress on the nuts which then might make your wheel fall off

when you look at an oem wheel nuts and aftermarket wheel nuts they are shaped differently, its like a lock and key mechanism if you want to picture it, or if you did year 12 bio, its like how an enzyme and substrate works

Hey guys, sorry its a random question would the JDM DC5R Rims fit on the Civic FD? 5 X 114.3. 17 x 7 inch +60 Offset.

thanks

Stig
20-02-2010, 12:45 AM
should fit but not recommended if you are planning to lower the car on coils in the future, you also might experience some rubbing against the rear plastic lining

aero
20-02-2010, 12:46 AM
unless u use spacers

Stig
20-02-2010, 12:47 AM
25mm hub centric spacers should do the trick

looks good on 8th gen civics, didn't know offset was that high though, might need to run spacers

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 09:29 AM
thanks guys for the info, spacers i heard bad stories about them. wheel falls off, and the studs on the spacers break / rip out of the hole etc..

so whats the go with that? any idea on what i should do or which spacers in particular, and yes i will being thinking about lowering the car on coils with Jdm dc5r rims

cheers

JOhnnyFD
20-02-2010, 10:17 AM
cheap replica spacers tats probably why... so should get the good reputable brands of spacers.. try contacting jdmconcept or jdmyard about tat

Stig
20-02-2010, 10:49 AM
thats why you use hubcentric spacers

.k. has dc5r wheels on his fd. had the same problem when he first fit them. just need to sand the calipers down a little and it should be fine

awesome...
does someone wanna help me sand down my calipers? wanna get these wheels on ;)

curtis265
20-02-2010, 05:02 PM
stig, they look too dished :S

and is that in perth!!

aero
20-02-2010, 05:37 PM
no dish. but epic concave-ness. would look great on the fd, but would take some work to make them fit with that +30 offset

curtis265
20-02-2010, 05:42 PM
^sry thats wha ti meant, lol.

would that need epic fender rolling?

.k.
20-02-2010, 05:46 PM
i didnt end up having to sand calipers mate, first time i test-drove it i heard some scraping so took wheel off, re-fit it and then after that its been fine :) just barely clears though

Stig
20-02-2010, 08:23 PM
theres no way of running those cr kai on normal coils (they will not fit and would cause epic scrubbage), you need airbags and stretched tyres, but thats a perfect example of running hella flush lol

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 08:26 PM
so the jdm dc5r rims are good to go on my FD with spacers? so whats a good size spacer ? also im planning to drop it with coilovers later in the future

FallenAngel
20-02-2010, 08:30 PM
i would really advise getting coils first so you know if the wheels would fit after.

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 08:37 PM
well the thing is i dont have the rims yet, but will be purchasing it if its good to go on the car

Stig
20-02-2010, 08:41 PM
25mm spacers...

.k.
20-02-2010, 08:44 PM
example - if the dc5r wheels are +45 and i get 10mm spacers it'll be roughly in the right spot yeah? .. or is my understanding of offset wrong? :S

Stig
20-02-2010, 08:46 PM
whats the width and what do you mean right spot? right spot of a 17x7+45 rim?

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 08:51 PM
25mm would that make the rims sit flush with my fenders?

Stig
20-02-2010, 08:56 PM
you would need like 40mm+ spacer (which is unheard of) to make it flush with the fender, max is a 25mm spacer on the market (correct me if im wrong). that 25mm spacer would be enough for you to lower the car on coils and run some -ve camber at the front etc

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 09:03 PM
ok thanks for the info, i was just planning to drop it on coils no camber etc.. i was just goggling earlier for wheel spacer n theres 30mm spacers.. would that be better off if i can get my hands on them?

Stig
20-02-2010, 09:07 PM
if they are hubcentric wheel spacers then go for it, if not, then i wouldnt recommend, but wheel spacers usually set you back an arm n leg (~300-400$)

if you are really keen to make this work why not just get some 17" work cr kai

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 09:20 PM
yea i wanted to get them before but my bro has them on his sportivo i see them everyday so..plus people already have them on there FDs so why not be different i havent seen anyone with Jdm dc5r rims yet on a FD if not then all well i like these rims anywayz

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 09:23 PM
oh yea i was planning to throw on some Accord Euro Lux Rims the 9 spokes one till i saw the jdm dc5rs rims which really caught my eyes ;)

Stig
20-02-2010, 09:40 PM
accord euro lux rims wont fit if you decide to run on coils, still need a 25mm spacer, i found that out the hard way...

9ineto5ive
20-02-2010, 09:53 PM
oh... so you also tried to fit them too, the rims doesnt look so bad too.. well i got a set laying around if anyone wants them.. Accord Euro Lux Rims

hopefully new job soon so either just dump and get wheels for this car or save for a weekenderr

Stig
21-02-2010, 01:49 AM
going through 11 sets of rims and using trial and error? lol

pretty much nething 8" wide and in the 30s will give you flush

.k.
21-02-2010, 02:55 AM
high or low 30's? seems you guys aim for ~35 ?

Stig
21-02-2010, 12:17 PM
if you REALLY want flush (stretched tyres and all), high 20s, we go for ~35 cos thats the only specs most rims come in

ekdez
21-02-2010, 12:21 PM
lol.. 11 sets.. haha
how many shoes you bought since you started modding this car ;)

ive been through 7 sets of rims
been talking to someone about getting 18x9.5 +20 what u think?

Stig
21-02-2010, 12:37 PM
this is my first car... LOL

9.5+20 for the front or rear? you might be running poke than flush, if so you need to camber the hell outta it and run urber stretched tyres lol

hey has anyone done any ecu or flash type things to their FD's?

i was browsing about it and saw this little bit on the hondata ecu stuff now supporting the asian FD

V1.1.3.2 Changes:
• [CTR - South Africa] Added to list of supported models (CTR Euro & some Race calibrations).
• [Civic Si - Mexico] Added to list of supported models (US & Race calibrations).
• [Civic Si - South America] Added to list of supported models (US & Race calibrations).
• [Civic 155hp - Asia] Added to list of supported models (Race calibrations only).

i'm also curious about resetting the ecu battery trick thing. my battery crapped out the other day and i got a new one. the car was without battery for an hour or so. when i took it out with the new battery the car definitely felt quicker when i put my foot down.
i got the feeling because i picked it up 2nd hand from an interstate sales women that she did lots of long slow driving on it and the ecu was preset that way. btu seeing im more a lead foot it's changing for me.

has anyone else had this experience after resetting?

hi stig! i really like your wheels. i checked the works t1 and there's no 17"?

I don't want to modify much on the car that's why I'm contented with the 17"

ekdez
22-02-2010, 04:52 PM
buy the right rims and they will maintain their value.
(i.e. NOT ozzy tyre/ tempe rims.)
you will always loose money on tires unless you can sell them separately with 80%+ meat left..
tires depreciate because you have wear and tear on them.. =].

be mindful, there must always be someone looking for those same rims your trying to sell at the price you have them up for.

By increasing the capacity of the condenser three-fold (compared to Blue RAIZIN), and decreasing both circuitry noise and high frequency impedance the results have been a more stable supply of voltage to all electronic devices, better gas mileage, and improved torque and audio quality.

A World's First: View Battery Performance via Lowest Voltage Display.
Displaying two types of voltage, both real and Lowest Voltage (world first) at engine start makes it easy to see battery life and loss in battery performance. This also helps to protect against trouble caused by shortages in voltage to various electronic.

3 drive throttle controller
installation - piece of cake since there is harness. dedi at top one install it in 15 minutes. no engine warning come out. no reset of ecu
drive - havent tested yet on highway, i will on this wednesday as i need to see my house builder around bella vista area.

however on the way back home i tried it. cant test on economy range yet i guess the only way i can tell is the mileaga on fuel tank

sport mode, i can feel pick up is a lot easier for the car.

they have range for sport from SP1 to SP7 that you can select. i cant tell massive different from SP1 from SP7. again maybe this come into play when driving on highway and not like 60-70km/h on sydney road

Bugger... was actually happy with the $230ish delivery fee.

hmm, what about for smaller parts like the projector headlights?
surely they don't need to ship it in a container.
