Thanks guys. Yeah it has taken ages to come, but absolutely worth it. No rattles at all... a slight imperfection on the door trim... but i already fixed that. The dealership did not install my reverse parking sensors.. but the other options are up.. including the bassworks (gonna go test it out now), dash trim set (looks fantastic) and accent lighting... also very nice touch. I'll get a couple of pics of those options for others to look... particularly the trim set. Oh and the car is black... loving the colour.

Yeah first full day of ownership and I already have 200kms on the clock. Drove to the gold coast today from brissy.

I've had the money already saved up for the full mugen (replica) kit... but I think I'll have difficulty justifying the purchase. So I might put any mods off for now...

It's hard to justify spending money on cars (i.e plastic bits for cars) when you're married...

Tho... perhaps I'll still get around to it in the near future... we'll see :P

Same with what they buy. How do they justify spending money on dead animals and wear it on their arm?

y0!

I think it's fantastic - sounds great without having to lose space in the boot. I don't really have anything to compare it to... but for me it sounds great.

Tho do keep in mind I've never done the subwoofer +amps thing in any car I've owned before... so I'm no expert in this.

The install is very clean and I have access to the amp in the boot -it's hanging from the 'ceiling' of the boot.

As we all know honda dealerships charge you crazy amounts for anything extra they add - so I just got them to chuck it in with the package.

My new mod is reverse parking sensors. Well... not exactly a mod because it was supposed to be fitted pre-delivery - BUT they ordered the wrong part. They ordered the jazz reverse parking instead of the civic.

Anywho... so i dropped off my car this morning and got given a lil jazz to drive around in. Slow as heck.

Was a lil worried that the round sensors on the back bumper would look ugly .. but they actually did a pretty good job and it looks alright in black.

Pitty the reverse parking system is audible only... i.e there's no little display showing how far you are in metres. (NOT that I'll need it... just want a wifey safe[r] car :) )

I have the oem sensors too. Depending on the sound, it tells you how far you are from the object. E.g. If you hear a continous sound, it means you are about 15cm from the object. Then from 15cm to 45cm, it is a quick beep and so on. I dont remember the exact spec, but as soon as you hear a continuous sound, i would stop reversing. You can always run a test. But a cardboard box and get ur wife to back into it. Then as the sound changes, get a ruler and measure.

The back H badge has two holes. The civic and trim badge are adhesive only. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm it up and it should come off fairly easily... just go slow.

I think the rear H looks ok... might just debadge the other two badges - but only when/if i get the mugen kit.

LOL sorry guys,

i took the grill out and primer and resprayed it black with a spray can, but the heat from the engine bay made the paint peel off :(

so i have just put electrical tape over the peeled patches lol!

i should have really sanded the grill down and then primer and painted with a heat retardant paint but ahh well, i can always re do it :)

as for debadging, ive left the H badge, just took off the other two

thanks for the comments guys!

rhk

hmm the only real "performance" mod is the coilovers imo

the simota intake really only makes a deeper intake noise (lol)

breather pod is to prevent oil leaking into engine bay

oh and my wheel diametre is slightly smaller cause i got 40/r17 so physics should mean i get a slight increase in accel lol

no seriously jace... a lot better than my preiouse stocky (2001 GLi) and other previous stock civics as well. I think part of it looks nice... but part of it looks a bit unnatural (over the top?). What does concern me is the white opaque visors. Even with my semi-translucent Mugen visors, visibility in the FD is greatly reduced especially at roundabouts and intersections with the road on the right being a curve (i.e. any car travelling along the road normally will always be in your blind spot as you approach)... I can only imagine what opaque visors would do.

Hey guys i want to change my R18A SOHC into DOHC how do i go abouts doing that, im willing to pay 1k

I'm no expert but whilst I have a basic understanding of differences between SOHC and DOHC, I was under the impression you can't just "modify" the engine per se that easily. Can anyone more technically minded pls elaborate?

(it's times like this where you should've just got the K20)

markCivicVti
13-12-2007, 12:44 PM
Yeah I'm pretty sure you can't do it.

Anyway you won't achieve much going to a 1.8ltr DOHC vs SOHC. Plus our ECUs are setup for the SOHC ivtec along with the drive by wire system of these civics.... so would need a aftermarket ECU + tune I'd be guessing. The R series is new and I don't think alot has been done with them.

K20 transplant + ecu (from FD2 I suppose). So not worth the effort/money - will cost less to sell up and buy a FD2 - not that they are that impressive powerwise given they inhereted the somewhat-mighty K20.

If you want to go fast in a FD... and be unique... get a place to custom a turbo kit for you (plus tune $$)- I'm guessing 7-12k..

Even better bet would be to sell the FD and buy a older civic (EG/EK?) to do up... as you seem to want to go fast in something that just isn't capable of it atm.

19" chromies aren't going to help much.

Sorry not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me. I should point out that its only my opinion and that I haven't driven a FD2... but the specs on paper don't look fantastic (compared to what the japs squeeze out of their K20s). But I'm sure its lovely to drive :)

u sure? i heard 0-100km/h was 9.7 for manual, and low 10s for the auto; which is apparently faster than the R18.

that being said when i drove the FD2, it feels like it's more willing to accelerate, but then it doesn't feel much faster.

^ Did you have to cut through the plastic wall towards the end of the CAI (where the filter goes) to fit it through? (as per Injen instructions)

Now the wait is on... go driving through puddles and report back :)

I'm also curious how they are going to do log book servicing - will they just leave out the part where they replace the air filter and do the rest. Just curious of the warranty implications.

Hi Mark,

I have notice you kind of lose the sound when its raining probably cause the filter is wet. If i see some puddles i wouldnt drive through them especially since my car is lowered.

As for cutting a hole in the gaurd, i got around it =) i just wrapped the pipe with a cloth and slide it through the small opening. I have to take off my bumber today because it rattles sometimes against the gaurd.

Isn't it bad to drive through puddles o_O? By puddles, I dont' mean small ones.. but when it's actually pouring down (as it does nowadays in Sydney).

LOL i'm in Malaysia atm and I've seen a few sets of Angel Eyes now. They're the new 'in' thing since HIDs are so last last year (can buy sets for RM200 or less.. i.e. $65aud).

The Civics here... a lot of Mugen (and Mugen replica) Civics. The back of the Civic here is much more crowded than ours with "1.8L iVTEC" or some crap like that. Not many 1.8s; most are 2.0L. A lot of people here have visors (not just on Civics). Lots of stickered up cars (e.g. Hyundai Getz, and the usual culprits of Lancers with Evolook bodykits) full of gauges and Brembo brakes with rims.

Saw a nice DC5R. Still looking for CTR since they sell the JDM FD2R here for RM200k.

But those angel eyes are $hit. They make ur car look cheap. And it will still make your car illegal cos it still uses reflectors if HIDs are installed. If I had the VTi, I'd get the double din HU fascia and put my own head unit in. Alternatively, it's not too hard to just use Alpine line out converters to hook it up to an amp/sub- that's how I'm connecting my setup.

A few ppl on the forum have the Mugen exhaust I think.

Anyway, the stock HU is fantastic imo (in VTi-L/Sport). Hard to justify why spend more money when it's already got all the right features (incl steering wheel controls) and an easy to use system.

As a short update... in my past few days here in M'sia/Singapore, seen alot of Civics with Mugen kit replicas. A few originals here and there. Then there's also a few white FD2Rs around the place. Quite nice... but it's more expensive than an Evo9 or WRX STi! Hard to justify the price IMO.

hey jace is some one using your car while you are over seas....pretty sure i saw it in the hornsby library car park yesterday or one which is pretty much the same as yours...

i had a muffler on my car sounds pretty average...then i had a j's racing exhaust system on it sound still pretty average and from both i found that neither really gave it much performance upgrade...the j's racing catback system made a slight difference to accleration but wasnt worth the original money i paid for the system...

As for the stock HU i found the sport one very good and also ran my old system pretty good never had any problems with it but hey i still have tha double din for sale

Features are there but compared to a double din touchscreen unit (e.g. Alpine W202), it will shit on the stock HU. Some of the touchscreens utilizes the existing steering controls. If I had the money to do a full sound system setup, i would definitely get a touchscreen. I already have the double din dash, but its just sitting on my shelf atm :(. Im no audiofreak. But i would like to have a touchscreen, 2 amps, 1 sub, components and rear setup. Just a basic setup but most importantly a nice looking HU.

Yes will do, if its not a good enough price meaning alot cheaper then the mugen one i will probably just buy the mugen.

Shimian

Modulo is cheaper than Mugen. You could get the modulo set (front, side, rear, spoiler) for about $2000-$2500 from Honda. Mugen you will need to order from importer and itll be around $3500-$4000 both painted. Mugen has an extra piece of bodykit which is the front grille.
A replica kit will cost around $1200 and about $500 to paint. But i dont know anyone who sells replicas in Aus.
I would go for the mugen look if you have the money. At the time when i bought my car, i didnt think of the mugen kit. Just got too excited with the car and bought the modulo kit.

I have pics on Page 49 of this thread, they fit really well. The shop that painted and fitted it for me said it was surprisingly easy fit for a replica. He lives in syd so if u still want his contact then pm me.

Pls PM me details (and price you paid if you wish).

Thx :)

hey fellas,
is there a way to somehow securely attach the Red Honda type R badge to the Honda Mugen Grill? I understand the red type R badge fits properly on the original factory grill cause of the holes but would 3M tape be the only way on the new grill? Most modified Honda Civic 8th gen cars I've seen with the Mugen grill seem to have no emblems or labels on at all, which to me looks completely ridiculous! Especially if you've just purchased the pricey Red badges and can't find a place to stick the front one.

i dont have the link, but theres some guy on ebay that sells the grille badge holder. It basically looks like a flat piece of metal with 2 screws on the bank. You screw that onto the grille then stick any badge onto the flat piece of metal. From memory it costs around $20 fully shipped. I was thinking of getting one for a mugen badge but i think some moron will come and rip it off and possibly damage your mesh grille as well

mugen grille without emblem coz it's replica, but if u get good and fine replica, it also comes with the emblem, i sold mine comes with mugen emblem.
it's depend where u get it.

if u want put red badge onto mugen grille, the only way is put the strong silicon glue behind red badge, and force to stick onto mugen mesh grill (do it properly and tidy). during drying, put sticky tape across red badge to mesh/mugen grill. hope it's work.;)

The kit looks pretty low! I love the look of the back though, very sporty, and the waves on the side skirts are big. Are the fenders an extra addition to the body kit? Front looks like it has room for a Nice BIG silver grille also :D

Add 200 bucks and they install and supply fog lights.

Mark, I think JDM concept sell the ORiginal one for $2,450... and I've seen this $1,000ish replica on Ebay (i think it was $1,500ish for body kits, spoiler and the front grill)

They will need to remove it to paint it if its on the car. So best not to install until you can afford to paint it.

Also expect to pay 500-800 to have it all painted.

Agree with MarkCivicVTI. Paint before installing. Remember to get the painter to do the eye matching technique to mix paint rather than just give them the code. It will not match the colour of your car. By doing the eye matching method, you will get it to 99% accurate. So basically, get them to mix the paint using code, then hold the paint against the car. Add whatever ingredients to match it as close as possible.

I'm pretty happy with my Mugen factory-painted wing. Although a perfectionist might find it to be a little bit off from the original black, I can't see any discernible difference.

As for mods; I'm about to install a new horn, iPod adaptor, and Typhoon intake.

Sorry but I think 1100 is a bit pricey for a replica Mugen kit, unpainted and with no wing. There are a few places in Sydney which I've seen offer them for approx 800aud. Don't ask for places because the shop which first comes to mind has since closed down (it was in Hornsby).

hey with HID retrofitting when replacing the entire housing, do people use sillicone to seal the housing into the front of the car? Or does it just sit in there with clips? If the latter, would water get around the housing and into the engine, even if the actual housing is sealed?
