looks great man. paint your calipers to match!

there's nothing wrong with cheaper nuts...if they're made from good material there's no reason why they won't last.

just make sure you buy something reputable

and i went for the buddyclubs

i wouldn't cheap out on nuts, because its the only thing holding your wheels onto the car..but steel made nuts are far better than alloy made ones interms of durability..

ill pick this steel made kyoie nuts over rays or works nuts...and it cost cheap..

lol your story reminds me of when I had my r33 s2...after taking it home from the dealer I was too excited and didn't check anything just drove it like a mad kent everywhere. 2 days later i'm driving home from work and i started hearing this BANG BANG GRR BANG LOL BANG noise coming from the front of the car...pulled over to see the passenger wheel hanging on by 1 nut with 2 missing and 2 about to fall off

but then i always had a feeling foul play might have been involved

Will a 5 speed k24 gearbox work?... Or one from base model dc5??
U should probably do a full conversion with the k20a gearbox as well

Btw how old is the motor ur getting? Won't there be some legal issues if u place an older engine into a newer chasis?

My car has a K20Z2...

I'm not sure whether there will be any compatibility issues but if it won't work then I'll have to also source a gear box to suit (I'm not a genius when it comes to these things). The engine package was without transmission

Hey Chan, looking good..quick question, what is "Aoex'i AFC-NEO *Tuned for AFR*"?? Is that an ECU re-map of any sort?
Does anyone do a ECU Flash for the FD2 K20Z? Woudln't mind getting mine done..i am seriously thinking about a couple of mods..needs to be dropped slightly lower (may just do springs not coilovers, Mugen colour coded grill and cat back (want to keep twin pipes though)

AFC-NEO is used for tuning the air fuel ratio of the car :) It's just sort of a piggyback. Gave me about 15hp more atw :) Haven't tried connecting and tuning Vtec with it yet.. So far we've only fiddled with the air fuel ratio and the results were astonishing *15hp for a 2.0 N/A car*. How much were you thinking to spend for springs? Cause my coils were only on the car for about 2-3 weeks and they retail for 1800.. I'll be parting with it for about 1400.. Depends how much you want to spend :)

Was there any issues during the install, like CELs?

Nope. None so ever! I think it was caused due to V-Tec being connected to it.. hence I did not hook up V-Tec to it.. yet :P Just connected the AFR and there was no issues :) I will try to work with my mechanic/tuner to connect the V-Tec when we have the time.. and see if there's any issues

So far it's fine on my fd2.. probably cause I never connected the Vtec to it :) Cause I read somewhere that the CEL came on because of connecting it to Vtec. The main purpose of the AFC-NEO is for the AFR anyways :P It would be great if Vtec could be connected, but wouldn't make TOO much of a difference.. maybe an additional 2-3hp only

lol the civic is a family car, not a sports car. even the fd2 "sport" is still a family car... that hasnt stopped previous generation civics becoming performance cars, but this 8th gen is a heavy whale and it takes a lot of money to see it compete with genuine sport cars.

ive got d2 coils. had them for about a year now and there's been no problems. they're not great if u were to track or race, but for street use they do well. bc, tanabe, skunk2 pro s, j's racing and ksport are probably ur other options for coils at around $1.5k. they're all probably the same. i've heard that d2 and ksport come out from the same factory?? they're all good if all ur not gonna track ur car.

Just a note to why i gave STD a shot.

Most coils, when you lower the car, the spring does not have 100% movement. However with the STD coils, even if you lower the car, the springs still remain with 100% movement.

@aero: how the ride comfort on d2's?

what do you guys think will be best suited for me if i was after a decent ride comfort (as my car is a daily) and noticeable improvement to the handling of the car? Or as aero stated, will most brands be pretty much the same since its just for street use?

@aero: how the ride comfort on d2's?

ride comfort is fine man. i use my car every day. havnt gotten any complaints from my gf (who is usually the only passenger) or other people that have been in my car. also, the profile of ur tyres also affect the comfort. although the ride isnt bad with my 17s or when i had my 18s on 40 profile, it is way more comfortable on the stock fd1 steelies and tyres.

they're pretty hard to source them anywhere now.. they all, if not most dealers have cleared out all their stock about a year ago. im pretty sure ksport coils are near idetical to d2's anyway and there a few people that sell and distribute them to australia from the states. i think they're about $1.4k delivered to ur door.

Looking to upgrade my front and rear speakers (fronts with tweeters). Will there be much difference vs stock speakers as it requires a hi-lo converter vs RCA inputs. The aftermarket headunit has a "Built in 50W x 4 Channel High-Power MOSFET Amplifier" so i will not be installing amps or subs.
Is it worth the upgrade to aftermarket speakers? Or not much point as i am not installing amps? I read somewhere that installing aftermarket speakers allows me to customize the audio from the HU better than using the stock with hi-lo converters.

This is for my Civic FD2 06
Any info is appreciated.

nah not yet. But thinking of doing it in one hit. Since hi-lo converters go for about $30. Im assuming i need 2, why not go for new speakers. If its true that i can customize the equalizers better with RCAs vs hi-low. Why not spend the little extra.

okay...here it is...
upgrading speakers without hu or amp = pointless it will give better quality by say 5-10% but lest volume by around 20%
upgrading HU without upgrading speakers = basic but it will give better quality and volume
adding amp = weak hu (whats the point?)

upgrading HU without upgrading speakers = basic but it will give better quality and volume

You can see your speed on your stock radio
- Turn car on
- Press 1 and 6 and turn radio on
- When you see DISP, press 5
Now you will see your KM

Its a split second delay but just a novelty factor.
Ignore this if its already been said :)

oh and i tried that speed thing, i t hink the Hz refers to the rotation rate of the tyres, in other words it gives u ur true speed in KM (actually km/h) cos it's slightly lower. They don't display this on ur speedo so that they dont' have to accept liability if u get caught speeding too much

if u hold 1 and 6 and power on, then press 4, that gives u some weird numbers that change depending on whethe ror not u turn ur headlights on.

Well the catback is suppose to give you a better flow throughout the exhaust. However, the fd1 and fd2 arent really "sports" cars and dont think you'll notice much difference to be honest. The one i have is for the FD1, im not 100% if itll fit the fd2 though. Ive got a feeling that the fd2 has a different catback from the fd1.

leave ur car in the sun, or use a hairdryer. and use a fine needle and just pop the bubbles (thats if ur really impatient), cos to be honest, if u just give it some time (maybe am onth or so), if its out in the sun n shit its gna pop by itself

btw for joseph - fd2 has a different catback setup to fd1, however if i remember correctly its just a b-pipe extention thats necessary (pretty simple and cheapish job)

BUT... that could be for the fd2r to fd2 difference.. not 100% sure lol

how my car stands now...

what colour rims do you guys think would be nice? i'm keen on bronze or black but they're so typical on silver...I wanna go wild with some purple maybe.

The rim choices are ce28, cr kai or te37 and either 17-18.

I'd love to get purple te37's but I find with FD's the more spokes the sexier

I have black rims on my silver moss FD2. I havent seen any silver FDs around with black or bronze rims. Maybe im not looking hard enough. I usually see many black FDs.
Go 18s IMO. I think 17s look too small.
Agree with spokes. The more the sexier

That looks sweet aero!
Do the bronze and black have the same specs?
And are those tires the same size?

aero

lol. they're the exact same wheels. i originally bought them when they were bronze, but then i had them resprayed to matte black.
specs were 18x7.5 +42. tyres were 225/40/18.

I thought they looked the same, wasnt 100% sure. The change of colour threw me off. Looks amazing though.

lowered on d2 coils. lol, i think its been mentioned here so many times.
i liked the black too. i didnt mind them when they were bronze, but all 4 wheels were scraped and guttered pretty badly. so when i went to get them repaired, i got them resprayed as well.

soz aero. ive only recently come back around page 780 so i may have missed it :)
But looking good lowered. Was going to go coils but decided to spend on a sound system instead. Oh well, i guess i have to wait. Maybe ill just go springs

guys, quick question, im at work now so i cant really check my manual and its quiet urgent
how the f*** do you read your R18A orange dipstick?
wheres the level indicator?

Shimian
26-09-2010, 11:13 AM
for fd2, you check the upper and lower indicators at the tip of the stick. It should be inbetween the 2 levels. Not sure if its the same for R18a

fingerscrossed my sound system will add weight and lower the car for me. then i can save on lowering :)
I dont think itll be for a while. I reckon by the time i decide to get some coils, they will be as cheap as springs today.

my hope shattered. lol.
having a headache at the moment trying to figure out what to fill the spare din slot. So far ppl install pockets, gauges, cup holders. Dont really want to go down that path.

lol sorry..... but its true =P

lol. i rkn simplest is pockets. but most useful would be gauges - or just get a double din headunit lol

vote for double din

Shimian
26-09-2010, 03:24 PM
double does look good but i weighed up the pros and cons. I will go for a single as i will be listening to audio majority of the time. The Pioneer MVH-8250 seems to have divx playback but on a 3" screen which is quite ok.

ej20i: Does your gauges allow you do adjust the brightness? If it does, does it connect to the cars brightness controls? What is the model num? I cant seem to find it on the net

thanks

yea it does have the brightness control but not the cars brightness control but you could do that probably

For FD2 owners - has anyone used any of the below to retain their steering wheel controls for their aftermarket HU?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0039H2W66/makemoneyo091-20/
OR
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22808_Axxess+ASWC.html
OR
Which one from this site? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/viewcat.php?category_id=495&page=1&items_per_page=50

Otherwise, what brand are people using? Most car audio shops charge about $250 for a PAC unit.
