mate no offence, but the LMs look horrible on a car with so much body, and so little profile on the tyres.

the only thing wrong with that picture is that .k.'s car is on stock suspension. they look fine once lowered. here are the same wheels on my car.

lol.. those tabs have been scraped so much, im not sure how much them is still under the lip. car is no longer slammed tho. it had to be raised so much just to fit the rota grids and the fat tyres on them. had to take them off after 2 days. noise was too much. cant afford to buy a new set of tyres to stretch over them and some rear camber arms atm. so, enkeis are back on and the car is still sitting like a 4x4.

khoi. have u got any pics of my car with all 4 of the grids on?

Its quite expensive. Around $1,200 included shipping
I am wondering, is this can be used for honda civic VTI because steering wheel mounted audio controls dont have on VTI.

that is too much money for a steering wheel. i'd rather spend it on something else lol. however, im pretty sure that there is a kit to add the extra buttons on the steering wheel and have them wired up to the sound system in the vti civics.

01-01-2011, 02:51 PM
Hey guys i got my rims.. FINALLY! and got them on, but ran into some issues. The front is scrubbing like no tomorrow and its starting to smell real bad. When me and my mate looked in the guard, it looked like the front one was already rolled sort of. Does it come already rolled or is it rollable?

aero
01-01-2011, 08:05 PM
They are rollable but not much. Its nearly impossible to roll them fully flat like on nissans. U can also shave the inside a tiny bit. Are u still on stock suspension? What tyres are u running on them? Camber and stretch tyres are ur friend on the 8th gen.

Btw, post some pics please!!!

ekay1
02-01-2011, 02:37 AM
Thanks for that Aero! I think i'll just try camber out the front and roll the rears, should be fine..... i hope. Pictures from phone. Hope you guys enjoy! Going for a photoshoot soon, i'll get some better pictures up then.

anyhow.. youre going to have to stretch tires on those to fit them in :)

ekay1
02-01-2011, 12:38 PM
Nah, got them fresh from America for cheap so decided to snatch them. Wanted a better fitment and some concave compared to my previous rims. So Camber isnt going to fix the problem?

aero
02-01-2011, 02:34 PM
FDs arent dying out, people are just outgrowing them. besides from looks, they dont have much else to offer. it wont be long tho til these cars are cheap as chips and everyone starts engine swaping into them. they'll never be as light as an EG or EK, but they would still go hard with a k24 or k20a.

@dez - no need for bags, just dump ur n+ :p ... btw. lemme know when u wanna get rid of those CCWs ;) lol

Dam thats crazy! Mine are only 17x9+38 with 225/45/17 with natural camber. My car isnt dumped so im just going to roll the rear guards for now and camber the front and see how it runs. Cheers man, btw put the rims on already!!

17x9+44?

17x9+38, close though! Yeah.... just beach, shopping. Go to like Circular Quay if you like sightseeing and stuff.

Are kumho 31's rotatable??

evolution
05-01-2011, 02:39 AM
KU31's are directional tyres (they must rotate in one direction only) so you can only swap them from front to back. Alternatively, to do left to right, you have to dismount the tyres from the rim and re mount them on the other side.

DuffyFD
05-01-2011, 07:20 AM

Eh, just want a change to the look of it. Prob won't sell the car too soon unless some offers me money lol. I'll try n just go for the usdm look. No kit n just drop on wide wheels. I'll need to have a look at how much mud guards cost. Maybe roof racks? LOL

I'm thinking of going mugen RR front and mud guards.

aero
05-01-2011, 10:34 PM
using ebay as my only source... ive found these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mud-guard-Flap-Splash-Honda-Civic-FD-06-07-08-09-10-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27b6ef4edeQQitemZ17057 2861150QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

which are fairly cheap.. but could be dodgy

they dont look exactly the same as the american ones:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-11-HONDA-CIVIC-4DR-MUD-FLAPS-SPLASH-GUARDS-NEW-OEM-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5641205fc2QQitemZ37045 9828162QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

the more expensive one seems to be longer on the rear mud guards... which is what i would prefer... but it costs so much more than the chinese ones:confused:

Hey guys, I just brought back Honda DVD headunit from my home country ( Pakistan ). This is the system which is being installed their by Honda Pakistan in FDs on premium models. This is not the exact same model but very similar.

I followed a DIY and installed it yesterday. So far i am very satisfied with my purchase. Let me know what you guys think of it. It doesnt sound like Pioneer or Alpine, same or a bit better than stock but i was't expecting outclass quality anyway. It looks very clean and fits very well with the dash thats why o chose this one.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

Hi guys. Today I got bored and relocated my short ram to behind the battery. I then used a 1m piece of flexipipe ($35 from autobarn; ripoff) to route cold air from the lower front bumper grille straight to the ram pod.

Looks a bit dodgy atm with the pipe ziptied to the bumper :P still thinking of what I can use as a sort of 'bell mouth'...any ideas?

getting an exhaust system.... whats the diff in getting a 60mm to getting a 70mm system? would the 70mm have less back pressure and therefore less performance? n which would be louder =/

curtis265
10-01-2011, 10:11 AM
The general consensus is that 2.25"-2.5" is for NA setups, and >3" for turbo.

So... 60mm = 2.36", 70mm = 2.75". I'd go for the 60mm system. Loudness isn't really related to exhaust diameter.

black8thgen
10-01-2011, 10:13 AM
but the smaller the diameter the greater the back pressure generally yeah? therefore better performance? theoretically..

curtis265
10-01-2011, 10:18 AM
If it's too small, yes. If it's too large u get what's called a 'scavenging effect' which will make the velocity too slow at low RPM and won't have the natural 'pulling' effect of the exhaust waves from the right sized pipe.

We've seen quiet a few "experienced" racers tell people that a bigger exhaust is a better exhaust. Hahaha… NOT.

As discussed earlier, exhaust gas is hot. And we'd like to keep it hot throughout the exhaust system. Why? The answer is simple. Cold air is dense air, and dense air is heavy air. We don't want our engine to be pushing a heavy mass of exhaust gas out of the tailpipe. An extremely large exhaust pipe will cause a slow exhaust flow, which will in turn give the gas plenty of time to cool off en route. Overlarge piping will also allow our exhaust pulses to achieve a higher level of entropy, which will take all of our header tuning and throw it out the window, as pulses will not have the same tendency to line up as they would in a smaller pipe. Coating the entire exhaust system with an insulative material, such as header wrap or a ceramic thermal barrier coating reduces this effect somewhat, but unless you have lots of cash burning a hole in your pocket, is probably not worth the expense on a street driven car.

Unfortunately, we know of no accurate way to calculate optimal exhaust pipe diameter. This is mainly due to the random nature of an exhaust system -- things like bends or kinks in the piping, temperature fluctuations, differences in muffler design, and the lot, make selecting a pipe diameter little more than a guessing game. For engines making 250 to 350 horsepower, the generally accepted pipe diameter is 3 to 3 inches. Over that amount, you'd be best off going to 4 inches. If you have an engine making over 400 to 500 horsepower, you'd better be happy capping off the fun with a 4 inch exhaust. Ah, the drawbacks of horsepower. The best alternative here would probably be to just run open
exhaust!

from http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscellaneous/exhausttheory.htm

xenonkuraz
10-01-2011, 11:41 AM
Less backpressure -> less performance = myth

Assuming you don't go overboard with pipe diameter I.e 3" all the way on na

Thinking of hooking up my hibeams as DRL's like here

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/lighting/53754-diy-drls-low-beams.html

or

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/lighting/167869-diy-drls-low-beams-no-switch.html

Has anyone tried this?

I'm currently using a 20W parking light bulb in the normal 5W slot, and I usually drive day / night with parkers on.

I'm thinking this DRL using a resistor and highbeams running at a percentage of their maximum could be cool though

thoughts?

curtis265
10-01-2011, 01:10 PM
Haha, the DRL circuit isn't included in the audm FD's because it's not required by law and would be cheaper for honda to produce it without that extra 2m of wiring in it.

Basically, we don't have it, so it won't run on low power like DRL's should. (u cant add fuse 37 either.. i tried ages ago)

You cant use a 20W parker because that's going to set things on fire.

You cant use use a resistor on ur high beam because... to haev the DRL on you'd have to use ur highbeams, meaning the lowbeams will be on, meaning you lose highbeam functionality.

DuffyFD
10-01-2011, 01:26 PM
Nah nah I'm talking about introducing a completely different circuit in.

just need to connect up:

- battery;
- switch / or connected to an accessories wire to turn them on automatically when key is turned;
- resistor ( to limit the current to the light - hence making it less bright)
- fuse (safety first)
- grounding.

So tapping a separate circuit connected to the high beams.

The only issue I can see is if you tried to turn the high beams on whilst the DRL's were on.. might blow the fuse / bulb.

Should work no?

nah you can't introduce double the voltage, it won't work like that.

Courtesy lights are definitely doable - but would mean taking the door cards off i think.

If i had it my way when you unlock the doors, the tail lights, courtesy lights, DRL's and door lights would come on. When you turn the engine on, they would all turn off, except the DRLs and the tail lights.

That's a big few jobs though.

1. Running DRLs (Can be done from running trigger wires from the radio power wire or accessories, and from the courtesy lights, and a relay to switch between them both.
2.Tail lights run from the same circuit as the DRL's
3. Courtesy lights off the door light trigger wire.

I think it would be worth it though - definitely at night!

If it's a catback, then yep. If it's including the cat, I'm not 100% but i'd assume so.

It's a mass produced car, they're not gonna change the exhaust layout for 200cc engine difference :P

White

Don't know if I should change setup of the exhaust or just stick the dummy on. Heard I'd feel the car just slow down by alot if actually changed to dual exhaust.

Stig is right, just go for the looks. At least the FD is good at something. You from Burwood :O perhaps i shall see your car around then when it has the kit on. Shouldnt have to worry too much about the smoke unless its freezing lol

curtis265

Don't diss it guys, the FD is a fantastic car for what it is, the R18 is a great engine for it's intended purpose. The torque is all down low which is really good - took me a while of getting used to a H22Z to realise appreciate driving the FD. Don't get me wrong, the H22 is definitely faster overall (and a lot more powerful) but i'm already sick of having to drop gears and wait until i reach 5200ish rpm to overtake...

top end sux though, but it's a daily :)

Not Dissing the FD man, i never regret purchasing the FD :) love the car. You have a good point though, it is a GREAT daily in my opinion too. Just saying that the looks overrides the performance.

Hey guys im planning on changing our fd's weak little r18 engine to k20a or k24a anyone knows the rough prices?

.k.
29-01-2011, 04:20 AM
how long is a piece of string.. how much do u know about engines? are you doing anything yourself? Is the shop doing everything neeed more info mate..

r u gonna run stock k engine or what man.. its not even worth the time/effort/money to put money into the chassis to make it 'perform' tbh... like do you have ~15k to do the engine swap? + extra for suspension & engine mods + a tune etc etc etc $$$

looks alrite johnny but did u spray can it or some shit? that black looks flat?

~20k, hence not many people have done them, unless you have a method of sourcing the engine for cheap and not buying the whole fn2r chassis just for the engine, then it would be significantly cheaper

sounds good dan! ill keep my eyes peeeeled

you can tell the difference between the rep and gen ones, if you see clip holes then its gen, if its smooth all round and stuck on just with 3m tape then its fake.

haha buy mine buy mine! its all boxed up and sitting in my lounge room with my whole sound system -_-

know about engines = 0

already using t1r coils. willing to spend 20k max on the whole thing but not sure if thats enough to actually get a decent speed out of the fd since i cannot turbo until im on full license which is like another 1 year [due to being suspended 4 times] . And the bitch is i dont wanna part with the car for too long :( !!

holy crap if you've got that money to burn why don't u just buy another car?

aero
29-01-2011, 06:12 PM
that is probably just for swapping a stock k20 from an fn2r into ur fd. it will probably cost a bit more for a fully built motor. it may be cheaper if u try to source a k24 instead from a crashed euro or sumthing.
