update regarding 40,000km major service

Spark plugs replacement NOT carried out in this service. It occurs at 60,000km service. Great news that they will change to my aftermarket ones for FREE!
Fuel Filter not included. Extra $40

In total they are charging me $420. I am bringing my own engine oil.

I might buy an aftermarket fuel filter. But then adding shipping might end up at $40 anyways. Will check. I have seen some others charged around $500 for a major. $420 is done at Eastern Honda (VIC). Am I getting ripped?

Yes. 40,000km service

I think its about right. Take lube mobile for example, they charge between 350-450. Also searched on carservice.com.au. It quotes around $386-$511

From where? I highly doubt it was a major service. Even a standard service costs around $200. $135 sounds like an oil change only

Whoa, I was lucky then getting it second hand less than half price.. If anyone is interested, I know someone who is wrecking his FD2 due to an accident. He still has K20A engine complete with manual transmision still in good condition, BC N+ coilovers in good condition except one of the front shocks needs a new bottom bracket due to impact from the crash.
HID kit, front and rear underbody sway bar I believe they are cusco.

Aero, so you DID get those mud guards.

Which ones did you get, and are you happy with them? xD

yeah.. as .k. said. they are oem mud guards. bought them from honda dealer. they look great, but since my car is fairly low, the front mudguards sit about 2cm from the ground. so everytime i come across a steep driveway or any speedbump, they tend to scrape. they more they scrape, the more the inside of them begins to sag, so ive had to trim the insides a bit lol

I am using something similar in design to the eBay items, but different brands. SPC camber bolt for the front and Ingalls camber kit for the rears. Also using Tein S-Tech springs.

dont see how that would work on our rears. :\ but anyhow

Instead of replacing the entire camber arm, it replaces the brackets that hold the camber arm to the car body. Works pretty well for my purposes and is heaps cheaper than a camber arm

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200363859291&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

What is the advantage getting the Ingalls over the J-power? Are they made from stronger materials?

Regarding the alignment, does most shop that do wheel alignment familiar with these type of camber kits or do they charge more to do it?

aero
31-03-2011, 02:02 PM
from my experience, they charge u the same, but tell u that the point of using camber arms is so u DONT get uneven tyre wear LOL.

there should be screws on the ends + brackets to support them underneath each piece.

Do you find it is absolutely necessary to get the front + rear camber kits with S-Tech springs?
I notice the initial drop is not much, I'll say 4 cms for the front and 3 cms for the rears.
Can I still get stock setting camber using the stock bolts?

Sorry for the noob question since this is the first time I lowered my car.

aero
31-03-2011, 11:40 PM
as soon as u lower ur car u will get some natural negative camber. the drop on springs isnt so severe on the tyre wear. just as long as u have ur toe straight, ur tyres will be fine. when u start to slam and dump ur car, then u get some substatial camber to ur tyres. its recommended to get camber arms or bots to adjust the natural negative camber, so ur tyres have full contact with the road. however, if ur trying to pull off some hella wide and low offset wheels, whilst being lowered, then camber arms and bolts will help u get even MORE negative camber to help tuck those wheels under ur guards and prevent scrubbing. u will look like a mad kent, but the trade off will obvisouly be that ur tyres will wear unevenly.. and perhaps quicker if the toe isnt alligned

^^^ What he said

+++ I was trying to resolve scrubbing issues on the rear due to the specs of the rims and I couldn't stand how +ve cambered the front looked in relation to the back, so I got front and rear kits.

ekdez
01-04-2011, 06:30 AM
For daily street driving the newer people to lowering cars should be looking to get as close to +0 on the front as possible.. Running negative camber on the front during the rain will make your car handling pos, and you'll end up off the road. The rear is ok as it just follows the front.(:

P.s u shouldn't need camber arms or bolts or a 1-1.5" inch drop. It's like having two people in yourcar at all times..

Once again aero is spot on. Im running S-techs with 17x9 +38 and without rolled guards, the whole car scrubs. The rear is a problem when u have ppl in the back. The front scrubs when you turn, even though i have camber bolts and the front, i cant put much more camber as the rims run too close to the spring strut. Rolling guards would probably help alot.

Hey guys, my father and I recently purchased a new 2010 fd1 facelifted civic. I read a few pages back the mugen type R lip will not fit on the facelifted fd civic becuase of the wide guards? Is there a way to retro-fit them on to the new civic? I've seen on this youtube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGAK9JergmU @ 4:14 a facelifted fd with a really nice lip. Is that the J's racing lip or the mugen Type R lip ? Will the J's racing lip fit the fd facelifted civic, since the front bar is reminicient of the fd2 type R?

What other lips are availiable for the new civic and where abouts in Melbourne can I purchase lips. i've heard great reviews of OTR clayton. Do they stock both the Mugen Type R lip and the J's racing lip?

protruding wheels + ride height. little rolly wheel thingy couldnt make it all the way through. cant remember what it was hitting.. oil pan? dunno.

anyway. if i adjust everything so it all complies, the car wont look like what i want it to. so may as well just sell up and upgrade to a turbo or something faster.

I have to agree with Stig on that.. I have a mate who owns an Evo 8 and he just spent $750 to fit a new clutch and NO..... that doesn't include the clutch, $750 only to fit the clutch..
I think I will stick with Hondas for my next car...

The new 2012 civic Si coupe looks sick..

LOL bad, getting a new clutch is like 1.2-2.7k, fitting is like 800, if you're fly wheel is warped then you need it machined and its like another 700, and clutches go like no tomorrow

you can't even drive it that fast daily cos it just uses too much fuel, so you granny it (even using vtec at every corner would be more economical than boost, you actually see your fuel gauge moving in an evo!)

major service is like 800, if you need your water pumped replaced thats like 1500 all up

insurance is high,

brakes, tyres wear out faster cos you drive like a maniac :p

but you get so much attention though haha

gonna save up for an ep3 next year as a daily

Johnny skunk2 cams from titan motorsports (call for more info don't think its on their site) or you can try egay but I don't trust that they're authentic. Also hondata reflash for the civic FG2 should be compatible for ours but I'm currently looking into ECU compatability.

Thought i'd give some input to my progress with my FD :)

Didn't want to pay a panel beater to paint my mugen lip kit, so me and a mate decided to try a DIY rattle can job on it :D

http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z472/mxa1990/IMG_20110401_162105.jpg

Haven't used any rubbing compound to make it super glossy yet, will do that over the next few days.

http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z472/mxa1990/IMG_20110401_162111.jpg

Trial fitted - was a tight fit so it just sat there without any screws lol

http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z472/mxa1990/IMG_20110402_180616.jpg

Bought a ducktail spoiler from ebay as well

http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z472/mxa1990/7a3ce084000c30e178a6681bd9e323b4.jpg

Yeah the ducktail came with 3M, its really tough. Tried pulling it off - just moved the car heaps lol.

I went to a shop to get the paint mixed properly but used a rattle can to apply it, first time though. Still need to polish it cause the clear coat is acrylic :(

It does make much more difference. Trust me...
I had my car lowered last month + front strut braces + rear under braces but I wasn't too happy with the handling and the addition of front and rear sway bars made a lot of difference in terms of cornering and overall handling...

In the pic, there is Sway Bar Strengthening Brackets & reinforced Adjustable Endlinks.

Yes, these are easily available to be purchased via US websites such as Corsport (http://www.corsportusa.com/store/catalog/index.php?cPath=1_240&osCsid=be88cb04d06a6dcc39c749b5343b558a)

And yes, it is also DIYable, but it may be cheaper & more time efficient to buy instead.

If you want to try DIY, follow this link: DIY: Rear Sway Bar Reinforcement Brackets (http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/suspension/141230-diy-rear-sway-bar-reinforcement-brackets-picture-heavy.html)

Just saw on website,
selling 1200
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/alvin_light/fd2rims.jpg

Wanna get them match with my white FD ~
do you guys think is reasonable price? 1200

ekdez
07-04-2011, 10:28 PM
If those are authentic fd2r rims, they will have a +50 offset.. Careful with the offsets.

P.s I wish I had a black Fd :( your car looks nice on the gold lm's, ever thought of running 18's tho??? :)

Alvinlight
07-04-2011, 10:35 PM
what colour of fd do you have?

I wish i had blue or red FD with white rims, that's would be prefect :)

Alvinlight
07-04-2011, 10:36 PM
Btw, i think they are 60 offset

DuffyFD
07-04-2011, 11:21 PM
i doubt they're +60 offset. too weak offset for Type R..

I could be wrong.

Stig
07-04-2011, 11:39 PM
18x7.5+60

ekay1
08-04-2011, 12:44 AM
stig is never wrong

ej20i
08-04-2011, 06:58 AM
that seems very weak if its a x7.5
especially with the R's wider body up front too

ekdez
08-04-2011, 07:49 AM
Yeah I was gonna say +60 but +50 is enough to scare you.. The reason the offset is high is because of the bbk set up they run. Need to sink the wheels in as much as possible.

curtis265
08-04-2011, 10:17 AM
wheels sink in more for a bbk o.0?

aero
08-04-2011, 11:28 AM
yeah that doesnt make sense to me. if anything, they should be at a lower offset to clear the brakes.. like evos

Alvinlight
08-04-2011, 01:37 PM
just wanna ask,
is that the lower offset, better performance?

Stig
08-04-2011, 01:57 PM
not necessary, the lower the offset means the further the wheel sits from the hub

simple terms, the lower the offset the more the wheel sticks out from the guard

DuffyFD
08-04-2011, 02:58 PM
Lower the offset, the wider the track of the wheels, and logically the better the car handles around corners.

Conversely, the more positive the track, the more narrow the track, and the car won't handle as well through the twisties.

ekay1
08-04-2011, 03:28 PM
For handling, just get wider instead of worrying too much about offset. Wider wheels = better traction, however, will be heavier.

aero
08-04-2011, 04:48 PM
just wanna ask,
is that the lower offset, better performance?

just repeating what most people have said..

for performance, all u really need is enough offset to clear ur brake calipers and to make sure that the do not touch suspension components. however, the amount of offset needed to do that will vary on the car and how wide the wheel is.
the reason why many people love the low offset is because it brings the wheels further out from the body of the car and makes them sit flush... or hellaflush y0~!

I've had this fetish that dates back to when I was 18...my brother bought a Carmate 'Razo' gear knob and I fell in love with them so every time I bought a new car I had to have one of those Razo's. This is my favourite and I just bought two:

It's got a weight of 400gm and makes shifting with ur pinky cake.

I saw a white FD2 with red Honda sticker across the windscreen while driving down from Aspley.
Is it someone from this forum?
Diggin' the front grille..!!
Does anyone know if there are other aftermarket front grille beside the mugen grille and where to source them?

I do not want to replace the whole bumper..

Can anyone confirm if these sizes will fit FD2 door/shelf? Looking to upgrade some speakers but not sure if theres enough room. Also with the rear, theres a metal that runs under the speakers. Will it get in the way?

Fronts:
6.5" Top-mount depth: 2-3/8"
6" Top-mount depth: 2-7/16"

Rear:
6.5" Top-mount depth: 2-3/8"

Front kit fitted :) haven't cut and polished, gotta wait 24hrs before the clear coat sets properly.

Having trouble fitting the side skirts, not a very good fitment. I think I need to grind or sand down the fender bits. Theres a weird block that just sticks out and it's restricting me from fitting them on properly. Think the paint made it not as malleable. Any suggestions?
