Yea I do realise that my VTI-L has different alloy rim design as some other seen on the road, I'm thinking the more recent makes comes with different rims. Mine comes wih 16" alloy with Bridgestone tyres... is anyone out there found that too?

Here's a pic of my rim and exhaust... is that the exhaust tip you guys are referring to?

Those are the newer model rims- they look pretty hot. I like the FD2 rims as well now. Sigh, my 06 VTi-L rims are not so pretty :(

And no different exhaust tip; look in my other photos. This is a dodgy photo but it'll do until I can find the ones which showed direct comparison;
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/3129/tipsur5.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tipsur5.jpg)

Otherwise if you go back to around page 79 where I installed the LED tail lamps, you can see the exhaust tips.

The 17" rims on the current Sport are actually the previous model CTR hatch's rims (the british made type R). You can see them here on the Top Gear review:

agree with the stock exhaust with tips. But when you have mugen kit installed, the tips sit about 2 inches inside the kit. You cant see it at all.

serious? Now im having 2nd thoughts. Im not gonna spend over 1k for stock sound. But every sound i hear is nice and sweet.

lol, no ur not gonna get sound like those turbo cars. The tips are for looks only. The stock exhaust comes with these chicken legs tips. Adding the remus ones will make them look tougher. If you want sound, you have to change the whole muffler (+ other pipings if u wish).

See it this way, you don't own this forum... and if the owner doesn't want you to sell things if you're new then you gotta just deal with it and earn membership and then you can sell.

Ozhonda doesn't want to be blamed for when new ppl sell stuff and do it dishonestly (i.e not as described or not ever shipped) and other members lose money.

Ozhonda doesn't want to be blamed for when new ppl sell stuff and do it dishonestly (i.e not as described or not ever shipped) and other members lose money.

That's how I see it. Not so much here, but on overseas forums, there have been many instances of bad sellers and even fake group buys with new users signing up, promising great (or even realistic/decent) prices, and then disappearing. If someone has been a long-term contributor to the OH forums, they're less likely to be here just to pull a quick one- whilst there is always the risk, it's much less.

And yes I'm aware there's a reputation system but not everyone pays attention to that.

and how does this "newcomer" become "member" anyway? just by "rep" points? how many do we need to become a member?

No idea TBH. I think it's based on posts/time since joining OH. Ultimately it's not the be-all/end-all or even the deciding factor, but it's something worth considering when buying/selling.

markCivicVti

does anyone know how to disconnect the feature where the key is in the ignition and the door is open....

Yes I too found this constant beeping offensive when cleaning my car.
As soon as you open the drivers door you will see the black rubber switch/sensor next to the metal thingo that the drivers door locks onto.
I have tried placing a large sticker over this so the car thinks the door is always closed. This is not ideal as you will not get a warning light if your driver door is ajar. Also, the chiming noise which should sound, when the keys are removed and the fog/low beam/driving lights are on will fail to sound at all.
Leaving lights on has led me to draining my battery twice now, once in the first week of ownership (did not understand warning chime) and once last week(sticker mod left on during rainy drive to work)
I only place a sticker over this switch when cleaning the car now.

My mods:
-Tints
-Mats+Additional rubber mats in front
-Visors
-Mudguards
-Pollen filter
-JVC 4 channel 1000w amp powering front speakers and sub only.
-Kenwood 12" sub
6 stack HU and all door speakers remain standard.
Listen to trance music only via mp3 CDr, very loud very clear.
-Surge protected jumper leads in the boot!

its not safe to do that mate lol.... i didnt tell you but the switch is in your
belt buckle... the seat belt clip itself just flicks a switch inside the belt buckle turning the beeping off...

you could possibly disconnect it inside the belt buckle itself and risk a defect...
or disconnect it under the dash and still risk a defect lol or just leave it alone
and enjoy the safety features

PM DMX, he the only one who has it.

1st, don't like the hole curve under stock grille (honda badge).
2nd, don't like mugen grille (too dark for black color FD .. for me)
3rd, don't like mugen type-r grille (top grille too short and not chrome too)
4th, don't like mugen RR/dominator grille (carbon fiber also still little bit dark for black color)
5th, last option, oem TYPE-R grille :o

People, I just found out. The mugen design is DEFECTIVE. I foundout the hard way. Normally bodykits/under spoilers are designed flat underneath. unfortunately the mugen kit has two bumps underneath and as this kit is Low as f*ck the first thing that will touch the driveway is the bumps. Normally with a flat underspoiler/bodykit the pressure is distributed equally but with the mugen kit it causes it to go into one position which in turn causes the bumper extension to bend and flex up, whilst the paint does not. Thus causes the paint to crack from the top where it joins to the body and eventually flake off!!!!

I was told there is no solution to this. The only way would be to remove the front mugen spoiler. I've tried to combat this with inflating my tyres to the max to gain an extra few mms ground clearance.

There are also problems with changing foglights. One can no longer change the fogs normally, for the whole front bumper must now be removed with difficulty and care (and at least 2 people) as the power lead is short.

^pfft... you guys don't even know how to drive low cars if you scrape your FD's with a mugen kit, my friend has a prelude that sits about 6 inches off the ground and I can drive it all day in and out of driveways and bumps without scraping, its all about the angles :P

You could have sanded it before painting it. Ive scraped mine about 3-4 times now. Kit still strong.

I agree with foggies. Cant do it the old fashion way. You can either go from underneath or via fender

JaCe
25-04-2008, 01:26 AM
i wouldn't say it's a defective design; just that it's very impractical on a car designed for daily driver usage lol. mine is already half scraped off but at least can't be seen.

SaBReT00tH
25-04-2008, 11:34 AM
andyhui ---> 6 inches is MASS clearance. That's at least 15cm. After lowering my car half an inch I'd say my clearance is on the legal limit with my tyres pumped up well (10cm).

Shimian --> Yeah I would've sanded the bottom bumps off if I'd known early. If I see any problems with it hitting and screwing up the rest of my paint then I will definitely be sanding it off from underneath. As for the foggies I find it extremely hard to open my fender as the plastic under my wheel well is very hard and inflexible. It's especially hard when the car has been lowered and there isn't much room to play around with.

By going underneath in changing the fogs do you mean removing the fender or a different part? If so, which part?

Shimian
25-04-2008, 12:08 PM
underneath via fender. You will need to use a mirror to see. You will need to flex a fender in order to put ur hand in. Once its in, its basically by feel. But its much better than going via wheel fender way

ammuray --> what type of rims are they? Also, did ur Civic come stock with 15s/65 profile? By suspension do you mean you're putting new shockers in or springs?

By drives like a bus do you mean that the turning circle is a lot less tighter now because of the bigger rims and you can feel every pebble in the road so the ride is not comfortable anymore? Are your brakes feeling useless at the moment because they're having stopping your heavy 20s?

I've dreamed of putting chrome 20s as most of the ideal styles I like only start at the 20 inch size but have been very reluctant because of the problems mentioned above (comfort of ride, steering, brakes, cops, insurance)

JaCe
28-04-2008, 04:07 AM
I think 20's will kill the car's handling/performance unless you do some serious mods to make them fit comfortably.

amurray
28-04-2008, 06:55 PM
by bus i ment the car has the same clearance.. handleing wize i have not really had a chance to test it because of massive scrubbing... its gettin put on coilover's.. just waiting for a few places to get back to me on avalabilty .. i dont care what type i just need them asap... they make the car a bit slower... but not much... handling.. i think will inprove once i get it all set up nicely... but it does not really matter lol its just gettin done a show car really...

amurray - being 8.5 wide do the rims scrub on the strut tower? i was gonna get 20's but after doing some measurements i thought the tyre or will if i slammed it would rub on the strut - so i decided to get coilovers before rims.

Jo_e
29-04-2008, 11:23 AM

SaBReT00tH
29-04-2008, 01:43 PM
aren't coilevers just adjustable springs? Isn't it gonna look crap with all that gap if you increase the height too much?

Phlirt
29-04-2008, 01:49 PM
i guess you could call coilovers adjustable springs - but they replace the entire strut/spring package - the standard ones are pretty wide where as a coilover is alot thinner meaning you can have a wider tyre/rim fitted.

once i have my coilovers i dont plan on being high and on 20's - even if it requires a hammer and angle grinder lol

amurray
29-04-2008, 05:57 PM
it only scrubs on the guard.. there is heaps of room between the strut and the tyre... the coilovers have alot of adjustment.. so that u can sqweeze it into the guards lol.. they are also hight adjustable.. and will limmit movement so the tyre will not bottom out

does anyone know if there's any way to paint the mugen kit where the paint won't peel off? I know with factory painting they use high tech electrons and shit to make it stick to the plastic body but I was wondering if there's some kind of flex paint or anything which can be used so rather than all the paint cracking and peeling from a driveway just one little cm comes off and doesn't affect the rest.

Who said anything about "high tech electrons", its basically a massive spray gun machine thingy that does it... nothing about high tech... just 1 phat machine.

Even with small workshops they just use a high pressure spray gun and its the properties of the paint that will determine if it'll stick to the material being sprayed upon.

Is your existing lip paint peeling...? If so who the heck painted it? Sounds really dodgy.

Joe --> did ur paint begin to crack and falloff when u scraped your mugen kit? I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to leave my kit on unpainted as the paint won't stayon when it scrapes so often. Still looks ok, the body of the car looks better with the kit on than without. I'm also going to leave my 17/45/215 mags on and not go 19s because a 35 profile tyre would be way too rough. The ride is compromised already by lowering the car a little and going from 65 to 45.

R u refering to me? If you are, i dont have a civic anymore, im more here to make fun of JaCe. But i used to have one similar to Jace but without the kit. You should PM him about the paint issue, but i think everyone is refering to the bottom of the bumper scraping. Not the top, sideskirts or the rear.
and yes. dont go 19, it will be very rough.

Transition between gears feels so much smoother and it doesn't struggle anymore, especially when accelerating around corners and in particular overtaking. Well... with a SRI there's a whole lot less that can go wrong. I would say next to no risk... just make sure that your filter hasn't had a hole burnt through etc. If the KnN typhoon has the air flow sensor (which of course it does) then it really isn't changing much from stock... just adding sound.. *perhaps* it might breather better.

well yeh it does make your car sound better and allows more air to be taken in.

but i've heard that since it takes more air in that it makes your engine dirtier more quickly.

not sure if that's something you want just for slightly better sound and performance (if any).

just my thoughts

Very interesting howy! At first I was saddened by how poorly the K&N did... now I almost don't care... as I find the dirt negligable... not saying that Honda will do the same. One interesting point is the oil used to clean/service the Filter will destroy your air flow sensor if it gets into the wiring.. which apprently there are quite a few documented cases.

Very interesting... but I don't think this will worry me.

Just did the mod this arvo. fairly easy job (half hour).
just note that its not just an actuator, there's a little module that senses the door unlock signal (you need to activate twice for the boot release) that needs to be spliced into the system.

I have been searching for weeks for exhaust options for my FD2, so far come up trumps. I did find one by J Racing on ebay but it looks like a racing exhaust. I started a thread in the forum regarding cat-back exhaust options for my fd2 but nobody knows. I think we have to wait a bit for FD1's and FD2's

could anyone write up a simple DIY for the boot release please? :)

Use as a guide only. Perform mod at your own risk.

You will need the module (which interprets second door lock release signal to release boot lock and an actuator)

1) remove floor trim on front passenger side. from inside wire loom, locate yellow door lock release trigger wire. (note: not to be mistaken for side airbag sensor wire which is also yellow)
2) add a splice to this wire and run a 22g wire from there along the floor into the trunk.
3) The module has 3 wires. (line to earth, line to actuator and line to yellow wire). Once you join up the 3 wire, attach the module to the boot lid with 3M double sided tape.
4) the actuator has 2 lines,(line to module and line to earth. Attach the actuator to the boot (refer to picture elsewhere in this thread). ensure enough slack when boot lid latch is in locked position.

there you're done
