Yeah, the scales won't measure correctly like that for some reason. Best way is like how Steve mentioned. Or just Google it.

the 17x9 weighs 19.5lbs according to dunlops website, yeah the scale doesnt measure the exact weight...but comparing it to the EP3 rims
it weighs less 5-6lbs

The old style scale certainly isn't accurate ! try weighing ya self first then pick up the rim, what does it read ?

should have done this before, to get the nearest possible weight...

edit:
its 7kgs 17x7 (15.4lbs) according to their website

Hai all, i need some help.

So a reputable steering and suspension place took my coil-overs off today, after never adjusting them since putting them on.

When i got home today my g/f noticed a clicking/clunking sound happening when the car is even on a slow roll. With the steering wheel straight and even on full lock.

This never was the case when my car was on coils...

Now i know, from trolling these forums for 4-5 years.. that people with the FD civic had problems with the knuckle or something popping out when swapping coils..

Could this by any chance be the reason why its clicking.. i mean i drove home.. 30-40 kms fine.. no issues.

Anyone have any clues?

Thanks :)

ekdez so they only took the coilovers off ? they didn't pull the coils off the struts ? what other work did they do ? I'd be checking the top of the struts, make sure the 3 bolts are tight with no movement. You could grab a 14mm sockets and make sure they are tight.

ekdez

Hey mate yeah, I should have stated that they only took the coilovers out and out the oem sus back in. I called the guy today and he said I could bring it back in for a look.. But that's 4 days away cos of the canberra day public holiday.. I said have you any idea's, and he said it may be the backing plate for the brake disk.. So I'll be checkin everything thus weekend haha thanks again :)

I recently got one of my engine mounts replaced coz it was gone and that was making the noise you described.

Apparently, our driver's side engine mount is known to cause troubles :/

Not sure if it is the same case, but I had a clunking sound before on my Odyssey front wheels and it was really obvious at slow speeds. Sounded like as if I had a nail stuck in the tires

Turned out to be a small stone stuck between the backing plate and the rotors. It dropped out when I removed my rims to have a look at the tires.

In response to EKDEZ

around 3 months ago I had a small clicking noise on the left hand side. But sometimes it sounded like it was fron the drivers side. Either way it was annoying. Everytime I accelerated , stepped on the pedal I could notice it as the engine noise is low but when i sstep on it hard you can faintly here it. At first I was advised by hanny's robert that it was a stone caught as mentione aboved but after a week it was still there. Robert told me to thrash the car and stepped on the brake hard thats how u test if there is stones there apparently. I took it back and told him to check it out further realise my engine mounts were fudged. those damn hyrdaulic engine mounts are shit. costed me 250 for a second hand one left hand side.

Hope this helps.

Fixed the problem.. =) and for those who would like to know,

I jacked the car up and turned the wheel around.. i took a video of it but its like 32 megs :|
It sounded like something was falling vertically every time the wheel made it to a certain point.
So as soon as i took my wheel off a bolt fell out and rolled under my car..

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/865/img3110t.jpg

It was the one in the middle... I mean wtf.. If they took that off why wouldn't they tighten it up?

Anyhow.. i guess the sound has gone.. But i definitely will be calling them on Tuesday!

The Hub nut?

Well as you can see, on the driveshaft spline there is a notch. This notch is so you can bend the end of the hub nut into the notch, so it does not come loose.

as you can see in the image below

Nah Eibach Prokit springs with Tokico HTS, they came already on the firmest setting and I gotta say they soak up the bumps instead of crashing like the stock ones did. Well it wasn't raining at Marulan this morning but the 11 inches of recent rain had water coming out of the ground still and running across parts of the track, so I pulled the pin. Ended up down the road at Wakefield and watched a few Porshe's. Will prob hit Wakefield on Wednesday if the sun comes up.

Steve are you interested in UltraRacing under-body braces? Or do you have them already?

I have a front and rear set that came from Timmie, just I'm too low to use them.

Also - 2nd question, the Whiteline bushings sold for the FD2 - are they compatible at all with the FD1?

black8thgen
12-03-2012, 04:01 PM
lol ive got under body braces as well but i literally sea-saw over many speed humps and drive ways... and have been for the past 6 months. i just havent had the time to take them off unfortunately =[.

DuffyFD
12-03-2012, 04:06 PM
I put the front one on one night before an Old Pac drive, and i couldnt reverse over the hump in my driveway! Chewed up all the grass and was literally rooted.

My height rule is that if I can't make it in and out of my driveway at home, it's too low haha. I already lightly scrape my exhaust pipe everytime.

But yeah the braces are good if you want rigidity.

Hey Steve,

Do you find you get enough front camber from just the camber bolts? I would like to be running around 2-3deg on the front but you can only achieve that through drilling the strut where it connects to the hub assembly (ghetto), or getting some adjustable top mounts ($300ish?). I know that JDMyard sells AST one's - not sure on the pricing.

Stevil
14-03-2012, 09:38 AM
Duffy I need more camber, just pulled a 15.4 in my 2nd session and outside temp of Tyre shows its working too hard. Still got 3/4 of a tank of fuel so I'm hoping for 14s late in the day

Where did you source the Tokico shockies Steve?
I'm looking at buying eibach pro kit for my CU2 but I'm not keen on using the stock shockies since I wasn't pleased with the way my FD stock shockies+Tein S-Tech springs combo crashes bumps and pot holes.
I cannot find any available shockies for CU2 yet which I find a bit odd for a car that is already 4 years old..

P.S. I just remembered that I still have the stock FD shokies with Tein springs...:p

Stevil

Pitiek I got the Tokico's thru Corsport USA. Paid under about $770 with the conversion rate and $89 for shipping. Honestly the ride is better than I expected and I havent even adjusted from the hardest setting yet.

They did take a while to ship em but I didn't mind waiting as the US postal isn't the quickest. Got the stoptech braided lines at the same time.

Stevil

rndy444 most shops are gunna quote around the $2-300 as it takes 2-3hrs install plus they need to do a wheel alignment.

If I wasn't so busy I'd give you a hand as install inst that difficult, just need the right tools.

black8thgen
20-03-2012, 09:42 AM
yeah rndy444 shops will charge quite a bit. so unless u know a friend its probably not worth it.

give bennjamin on this forum a pm as he does installs for people. he did my mates coils on a cl9 the other week and its a fine job. no noises or problems and he'll even adjust the height all round for u.

really good guy. i wont say how much it cost here but give him a pm and it will definitely be a competitive price

DuffyFD
20-03-2012, 11:04 AM
You can DIY, The only thing you NEED are spring compressors which aren't exxy. probably like 30-40$ for a cheap set.

The rest you can do with normal tools.

You'll need an allen key, a few sockets and a breaker bar. Takes maybe 2-3hours at home if you understand what you're doing. Took about 6 hours the first time for me.

Areis

Stevil
26-03-2012, 09:06 PM
Nah I'm talking bout the little triangle mark on top of the hat, the triangle should point at the motor ! but yeah if you had ball bearings popping out sounds like you had fun ! I've done my struts/shocks 3 times cause I stuffed up the first time, then I had knocking sound from one, so pulled em apart again and found I had stuffed the top hat. Third time swapped Eibach springs onto some new Tokico. Can do a strut spring change in about 30mins now !!! Lol

ekdez
27-03-2012, 01:48 PM
Stevil, can you please elaborate on the knocking sound you had when the strut wasn't triangled in?

Stevil
27-03-2012, 06:11 PM
ekdez I'm not expert but after I dropped some Eibach springs on the stock struts I noticed a very minor knocking sound from my front left strut when I was turning hard at very slow speed. Now at the time I figured it must be the spring not quite sitting in the right position. Anyway knocking went away and a few weeks later after a day a Wakefield I noticed the knocking was real bad.

So anyway I pulled the strut out, I then noticed that the nut had been moving around the the top hat (I had tightened it pretty well I thought). It was only when I pulled out the strut that I noticed there was a little triangle marker and I had it pointing out. Quick google search reveal it should been pointing in. Now I'm not certain that this allowed the nut to move, but the end result was both the thread on the shock and the top hat were stuffed. Both have since been replaced.

I also had my bumps stops making a popping/creaking sound when I put em on the Tokico's struts but they seem to have settled down and everythings gone nice and quiet. Amen.

hey guys,

I've been looking all over the net but can't find a definite answer.
I got new tyres couple of weeks ago, Toyo T1-Sport (new models of T1R) and now after a drive they smell like burnt plastic or something.
Some people say its just the tyre getting up to heat or maybe it is scraping against something. But nothing is hitting it, it is far from the suspension etc.
Apparently depending on where it is made is a cause of the smell as how much sulfur they put into the tyre?

Just like to know is it a bad thing to have a tyres smell like that or should i go back to tyrepower to get it checked out and does the sulfur content in the tyre make any difference to the tyre's tread life etc

Thanks

Well my FD1 trackcar got some new rubber on the rear midweek, actually didnt need rubber as i have fairly new RSR's but I couldn't pass up some cheap hankook RS3's.

Anyway headed down to Marulan this morning with 2 mates and with a full tank of juice I put in an early 48.2 chasing my mates Mx5. Mucked around with tyre pressure abit and managed to knock out a couple 47.70's chasing a Fiat bertone racecar. After a burger for lunch I thought I'd flip the RS-3's on to the front as they seemed a smidge grippier than the RSR's, anyway long story short during a solo session I ripped a 46.45. Bloody stoked !!

duffy what did you do to fit your new seats? Mine is vti-l so Ineed seats with airbag. If you changed your mind you can throw that seat to me for a very very very friendly price. ;))))

DuffyFD
26-04-2012, 12:20 AM
Hehe I'm enjoying the support of the seats too much! Wouldn't mind more lumbar support though.

Here's my UPDAAAAAT!

After a grueling 12 hours on the car today. Airbags aren't all that hard, just a very involved process of running all the lines and wiring everything correctly.

Result (in desperate need of a wash - me and the car)

Thanks for the help with the solenoids! And thanks in general for the kit lol, I can see why it took ages to sell, you either pay 600 -1k to get it installed or you break your back for 1-2 days with the car on stands! Makes coilovers like a piece of cake.

Where did you mount the gauge btw?

And i'm gonna have to buy 2 more long lines to get the gauge on the dash somewhere, the ones attached to the gauge are shorties xD

Stig
26-04-2012, 12:50 AM
i left mine in the boot, i wanted to chuck it in the slot under the cig lighter, but never got around to it

very useful if you keep it in the carbin, can see how high or low you are and if you lose any pressure while driving :D

airbag installs arent hard at all, then again i already did most of the wiring for you already haha took me a good day to figure it all out

DuffyFD
26-04-2012, 09:15 AM
haha yeah thanks again! xD

I wonder if I can buy more nylon tubing from bunnings or something, then I'll run the gauge back to the dash somewhere!

And need to use use plumbing tape on all of the connectors and then clean the wiring.

One issue I'm not sure of being able to solve. RTA(now called RMS) - I wonder whether I can get them engineered

only way to get them engineered is to get a self leveling module and have no controls of the bags in the cabin

from memory the module was 2k lol

Dez you car is/was delicious dude, one of my favs

I hope my luck never runs out (don't jinx myself!)

Thanks dude, where's the pic?

Most fun thing with bags and having a remote control is when people would crouch down to get a photo I'd pump the car up and look inconspicous, and they'd look around at everyone confused. Haha!

lol Honda recycling their old models. Its running a R18.

Maybe FD1 owners should change the H badge to this and resell their cars as new cars.

Reminds me of the days when Proton owners rebadged their cars as Mitsubishi's

Guys i need to make my front right wheel fit. Im running 17x8 +20 using 205/45/17 tyres. The paints peeling off and the guard has cracked a bit. I've rolled it as flat as I can and pulled it as much as I can. Any suggestions as to how i can fit it? Camber bolts? Raising the car (not that I want to raise it) ?

DuffyFD

hey guys, i was wondering if yous had any weird sounds coming from the wipers(driver) for our civics. Ive noticed it makes weird motor sound while its on 1 and i tried putting it on 2 and its there. I tried hearing it from the passengers side but there's nothing so there's a problem with the driver side one.

i know for certain it isnt the wipers themselves, im assuming its the motor itself =/
any suggestions? im planning on taking it to the dealer since its under warranty till next month.
