Guys I'm looking at getting some new brakes, since my discs seem to be slightly warped and I'm getting a bit of vibration.

I'm super fussy and any and all vibrations have to go. So I was thinking of going with ceramic pads. Any recommendations? I'm going to have to buy them from OS arent I? :(

replaced? and they're warped already?

ru taking ur car to the track lots or something ? Using abrasive pads?

DuffyFD

Pads are the one thing that I didn't do myself on the car.

It's never been tracked, not in my ownership, and I doubt previously either since I bought it bone stock.

I had a shop do them and was replaced with generic/aftermarket.

They were badly warped when I bought the car (real tugging feeling when braking). That combined with the screeching sound that I wanted to get rid of, so I got them to replace pads and rotors at around 50-60k, Car is now at 93k, but I am feeling vibrating, not so much tugging when driving. I have replaced the tyres (as I was told there was a slight lump in them). Replacing them made no difference, so I have a space pair of tyres now (as i believe the lump was a complete bullshit excuse).

Have had the wheels rebalanced multiple times. I'm getting the wheels refurbed next week, and they will look for any possible buckles, which could be the culprit.

If it's not that then it's either my alignment/camber/toe - which is quite overdue since I've been lifting and adjusting the car so often, I have not seen the point in spending money on alignments when I'm only going to spoil it next time I adjust the sussy.

So if it's not a wheel buckle or alignment issue, then I am putting it down to the brakes or bushings.

I am considering a pair of BuddyClub Extended Ball Joints (http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BC-02-BJP1-H003&Store_Code=EM&Category_Code=Honda_FG_Suspension).

Also considering upgrade of traction balls (http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2224196) or the Fullrace (http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/suspension/242952-diy-full-race-traction-ball-install.html) or even the poly bushes (http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/suspension-brakes/273936-hella-cheap-traction-ball-upgrade.html).

Thoughts guys? I've been dealing with this for the last 6 months or so

EDIT: Sorry for the tremendous post - It's been on my mind alot haha

curtis265
03-05-2012, 02:10 PM
holy shit dude, quite lot of potential issues. try someone else's stock rims on. 40000k old pads and rotors should be fine unless you splashed then with water or something. maching isn't expsnive i don't think

as for the other things u listed,

i think an alignment will fix steering pull, not so much vibration, but they might spot things

i dont think new bushes do anything except for making ur ride more stiff and bumpy - they absorb small amounts shock

roll centre adjusters will reduce body roll and help u corner.

I'm getting the LM's refurbished next week and in the meantime I'll be rolling on steelies. So if I have the same symptoms on the steelies, that will eliminate the wheels/tyres being the issue.

Then it's down to the brakes / alignment.

Can anyone recommend a decent place in Syd for getting my alignment/camber etc set up? Dave?

Cheers :D

P.S yeah the traction balls would be great, they're exxy though, I know there's a cheaper brand that I can't remember the name of right now. Still looking at around $200+ship though.

I am interested depending on the price :P please let me know. How much camber should i run on the front though since its a front wheel drive? I'm guessing my rears atm are between -6 to -8

Duffy: errr i got mine machined a while back when i first bought the car.. so thats about 10000km ago. If u want, ill double check how much it costed me.. let me know ay

DuffyFD
04-05-2012, 09:38 AM
You're looking at $3-400 for ASR plates, which I did look into. D-spec or whatever the cheap coil brand name is sells the tops for around $250, and there are generics for a bit cheaper.

With the generic brands, you need to drill the 3 holes to fit the car.

Camber bolts will get you +/- 1.5 deg. That, really, is sufficient for your purpose IMO. More camber will have the tyres wearing badly, and have your car wandering a bit in a straight line.

And for the price comparison, it's really up to you. xD

Haha there's the story

https://www.facebook.com/allstarscarshow

So lucky I re-rolled the rear guards. But the plastic rear tab was cutting one of the rear tyres, so after 40kms I decided to rip and cut the tab out. Now I can drive around aired out in the rear - but bounces everywhere.

Am organising new rear bags this week, just need to resolve the exhaust being too close issue.

Good (but exxy) learning experience overall :)

Areis, dude for the money, you won't find a modern comfortable spacious economical good looking car like a FD.

Sure you don't get a powerful engine, but that's not necessary if you just want it as a daily driver.

I'm driving a Cooper S around this week while I get the new bags for the rear of the civic, and it's too fun for a daily, I'd lose so many points with it.

Have the FD as a perfect daily, and have a weekend car. Or do what I do and just mod it so that it handles well, and then use it occasionally on the weekends too.

huge Mod today, installed a set of D1 Spec racing nuts !! lol. Unfortunately last time I had my tyres rotated the stupid tyre dude cross threaded 2 studs on my rear right wheel, so today I had to rip the rotor and caliper off today and replace 2 studs. Not the lightest nuts but probably 0.5kg lighter the POS steel ones I had.

Anyway my Vti is ready to rock and roll at Eastern Creek this Thursday arvo, only ridden bikes at the creek so pretty keen to see how the Civic handles turn 1 flat out ! hoping for a sub 2.05. If any of you FD boys are keen you should rock up to check the action out. The real battle will be with my mates Mx5.

Dude I bought a set of the D1spec one's before, and would never used them again on anything I cared about. 2 of them seized, they all lost their colour (I bought black ones), and they were weak as shit.

My mate used them before and he had a wheel come off whilst driving!

From my experience they're cheap shit, so I wouldn't advise you to use them, especially if you're throwing it around the track.

I use and will always prefer steel, yes it's a bit heavier, but it's shitloads stronger and you can torque them up knowing they're not going to break.

Stevil
21-05-2012, 07:28 PM

if you were in my position what will you choose? no. 1 or no. 2?
pioneer is a bit expensive and I need to buy fd fascia worth $200(jdmconcept) +$100 for the harness = AU$978
and the Honda DVD GPS cost only AU$515 just plug and play,

pros cons of the two? will much appreciated.
thank you! ;)

In terms of quality, you pay for what you get. I would always go for a reputable brand over some chinese shiit.

The first one doesn't state the audio power output - most likely rubbish.

If you buy the first one expect for it to lag, expect to have poorer sound quality, and expect them to not want anything to do with you if it goes wrong.

black8thgen
13-06-2012, 06:10 PM
yeah they dont do shit except for peace of mind.. when i had them on i didnt even remember i had them on til i took my rims off and they popped off lol..

EDIT: i just realised those ones seem to be plastic, meaning they'll do next to shit-all.

i had aluminium ones from work on my old work xd9s, they cost 40 a set when i bought my rims back then, and were a lot better than plastic ones ive tried.

so if your gonna get them get metal ones!!

DuffyFD
13-06-2012, 06:37 PM
I fitted two today and my vibration is gone. I think it's more crucial because I'm running spacers as well. The lug nuts weren't centreing the wheel properly, and now the wheel fits like a glove.

I haven't gotten over 80kmh yet but it feels alot smoother already, I was beginning to think it was a serious issue.

Areis
13-06-2012, 07:02 PM
Hmmm, i guess it may be the spacers. and yeah mine were aluminium too. dont get plastic as it doesnt hold the wheel stably in place

black8thgen
13-06-2012, 07:52 PM
oh well i guess spacers makes the difference hey

DuffyFD
13-06-2012, 08:19 PM
nah it doesn't make a difference guys. Metal or plastic, they're just for centring the wheel on the hub, not taking any load

fitme
13-06-2012, 09:32 PM
hub centric is better than lugcentric...your lug wont take all the weights and stress by using a hubcentric rings..it is much safer having this..installed mine from day 1

Introduction
Apparently, some car enthusiasts are not aware of the crucial importance of using hub rings when installing aftermarket wheels. In fact, some don't even know of their existence. Since this is an extremely important topic affecting both handling and safety concerns for our cars, I thought it a good idea to ensure that more of our members have access to this information.

Why Hub Rings?
OEM alloy and steel wheels are manufactured to have a centerbore diameter exactly sized to match that of the vehicle hub. This ensures that the wheel is solidly supported by the hub, giving what's called a hubcentric mounting. Here, the lugs and lug nuts function to hold the wheel to the hub, but do not support its weight. The lugs are not designed to be a weight-bearing component by themselves - their primary function, in conjunction with the lug nuts, is to solidly fasten the wheel to the hub assembly.

DuffyFD
13-06-2012, 10:23 PM
There will only be strain on the lugs (without spigot/hubcentric rings) if the wheel is not centred correctly. If it is centred correctly there is no difference.

The benefit as far as I've read (I've read pretty extensively) is that the centring ring ensures the wheel is centred every time it's mounted.

The wheel is held strong when mounted correctly by the frictional force between the hub face and the wheel. The lugs are there to ensure there's adequate pressure to ensure that the friction is doing it's job. The times that people say they've snapped stud etc I would put down to basically not centring and torquing the wheel properly.

Yeah I must admit the Swifts do look good EGB, fronts are similar to the Nuespeed sports but the spring aren't as stiff as the rears. I guessing stiffer in the rear better ? 500lb/Nuespeed sports versus 260lb/Swift Sport.
