Hi boys quick question, does the suspension on the FG/FA civic (us model civic) same with our FD? can anyone confirm on this

Yes generally all FA/FG and SI all run the same struts and coils, what you looking at ?

u should be fine, the pod didn't contribute to the accident.

you just lose it's value as an 'accessory'

Hey Curtis I tend to think ur 99% wrong this time ! LOl , seriously the FA is the sedan in the US and FG is coupe, whilst the FG only has 2 door they share the same struts as the 4 dr. I ordered and installed the Tokico HTS 510's this year and they are listed as suitable for both body types. The coils are also listed as suitable for both 2 and 4drs.

so.. my car might be written off, pretty big front end damage (radiator burst, coolant leaking, front subframe possibly bent in, fenders popped out/pushed backwards, headlights popped out, etc, etc)...

which means, good chance of me parting out depending on how many parts i can pull off before insurance takes the car.. will keep u all updated if anyone is interested in parts

Mate shame to hear bout the bingle, I remember an insurance story a few years ago and Civics came last for frontend damage repair costs. Mate good luck.

My brother got T-boned a few weeks ago and he put a lot of pressure on the smash repaitr guy, basically told him if the repair wasn't 100% he wouldn't accept the car and take em to court. Guess what ? the repairer wrote it off, apparently a side impact on a RAV4 took pretty much every panel out of spec !! lol

black8thgen
25-06-2012, 06:40 PM
lol! but isnt it up to the insurance assessor to come and verify whether its a write off or repairable?

generally, how much does the bill have to come up to be a write-off? someone told me 40% of the car's market value?

also, the place i got the car towed to is where my mate works at as a painter. and they're apparently one of the most expensive shops on the north shore (yay) so im just hoping for the best....

also i heard NRMA has a higher tendency than other insurance companies to declare write-offs so i guess that will work in my favour

Stevil
25-06-2012, 06:57 PM
My brothers incident happened in Rocky. Yeah assessor said yeah go ahead repair it, Smash guy accepted the Job and basically my brother wasn't happy as his car had bugga all kms and he was looking to sell it. As I understand it Panels were removed and Insurance company was informed that the damaged was more extensive. I believe unless my brother had applied the heat they would have done a bodgy job.

ekdez
25-06-2012, 09:11 PM
make sure you get the most expensive quotes on your mugen lips etc. (i.e. genuine.) this will boost the repair costs price up.

although this all depends on what you had under your insurance policy.

If there isn't an agreed value then you need to do some homework. Find atleast 3 similar cars ie age, body kits, kms travelled. Makes sure they are not dealer ads but private sales (very important). If you dont do your homework the insurance company will get there book out and tell you your cars 6 years old, how does $11k sound mate. You must be firm from the outset. If you think its is worth $17k then stick to your guns and give them the evidence. Good luck.

JDM-Panda
28-06-2012, 05:31 PM
Do a quote on NRMA site (or any other insurance site) and select agreed value and it will show the typical price. That should give you a good indication of what the market price.

black8thgen
28-06-2012, 05:47 PM
agreed value for my 08 sport is 22480? wtf? so high? LOL..... well i guess that is good evidence i can use against them?

JDM-Panda
28-06-2012, 06:05 PM
It's a good indication but I think typical value means how much people agree it for. But if you take red book values it's also different value.

2008 Honda Civic
Average Private Price+ $15,800 - $17,900
Trade In Price Guide+ $12,900 - $15,000
Average km+ 60,000 - 100,000
Price When New (RRP)+ $32,490

black8thgen
24-07-2012, 12:52 PM
roll the fronts

the rear you will prob have trouble with the fuel tank plastic cover, especially if ur running camber at around 3-4 deg. and yeah 225 on the rear will suffice.. i have 215 on my 17x9 rears atm its fine

Areis
24-07-2012, 12:58 PM
-3 to -4 camber is fine. Just don't run like -8 which is what I had before.

black8thgen
24-07-2012, 01:05 PM
natural camber will get u to around 3 depending how low u are and thats enough to hit the fuel tank cover

if u run -8 like areis u may threaten the actual fuel tank lines =P

Areis
24-07-2012, 06:12 PM
Na man ! It's fine! When I had -8 it completely burnt through the plastic. But I was on LMs at the time and my car was on springs. It's just all trial and error as it is different for everyone (dependent largely on height, wheels and tyre stretch.

Quick question that I will ask you all guys in regards to fitament of wheels, considering your discussing it :-P

I'm looking at a pair of 17 x 9 +35 Enkei RPF1, I'm going to roll the fenders, I'm on stock springs/suspension (going aftermarket after 25,000km ~ 35,000km), Would you guys see any perceivable issues in regards to rubbing?

I've seen in the fitament thread that one of the members had that exact setup and said he had no issues, but I'm not sure if he had shaved fenders even. After going between here and 8thcivic, I'm almost at wits end :-P .. especially considering I'm not 100% sure on this.

But you know, need large wheels for the trecherous suburban roads ;-).

The reason is cosmetic with the 9" .. as its actually flat as opposed to convex.

Thanks for the response though, giving me something serious to consider, I'm looking at something unrealistic that will also reduce certain areas of performance.

DuffyFD

black8thgen

i have 17x9 +35 in my rears and the only thing i hit is my fuel tank cover (but im on coils and running about -3 camber), and that is about to be worn away in the very near future so all is well. oh i do have my guards rolled and rear bumper tab shaved, but the roll is a very medium one.

up front, you'll just need ur guards rolled flat and the plastic fender lining trimmed accordingly

EGB
01-08-2012, 10:09 PM
I'm running 8.5 +30 225/45, only reason I went this is because I'm running brembo calipers. You will need camber, guards rolled and stretched tyres for 9inch wide

Only driven 250 kms on them and they're settling down but initially it's like your dash is going through an earthquake!

Yeah my car is a daily, but they do transform the car. Makes you feel much more connected.

They're meant to full settle around 700-1000kms. So I can't really tell you how much more they're going to settle.

Stevil

lolmclol I also got the same mounts at the same time as Duffy, I've put 650k on em and handling has been transformed to something I actually didn't believe was possible. When you see the huge Rubber mounts the civic comes with its sort of explains the disconnected feel you get on the ragged edge.

I've struggle a fair bit with front end traction at the track. Basically trying to get power down outta tight 2nd gear corners was a miserable fail. Now I fuked up a little bit when I installed my mounts as I needed to slip a couple of washers under the bottom mount to fill an unexpected gap, now because of that my bottom mount has probably really only done 100km, the good news is I will do close to 3000km in the next 8 days which should give an idea as too whether the low rev vibration we both have during the so called bed in period improves.

I've also got a track day next thursday so it will be interesting to see what improvement these mounts have given me over the stockers, I'm hoping for 0.5 sec thou I'm an optimistic prick !! lol

Thank you Stevil and Duffy.

Yeah when I was speaking to one of the people over at boomba he was saying that the mounts are 56mm thick and the ones on the FD are 61mm thick, he advised to add on some washers to sustain the mounts, only thing I'm weary of is if there is any issues with this, like friction, clash of material properties on each other, probably just finding reason to stress for no reason hehe, out of curiousity do you have any pics of your install? :D

Thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated! Going to order these mounts, plus some base bushing for the shifter, have you guys considered the cable bushings?

EGB
09-08-2012, 05:52 PM
I am currently running this Rear Hasport Engine mount, http://hasport.com/store/index.php/mounts/civic/fd/fdrrtm.html - I was having issues with my headers hitting the chassis at high RPM shifts. After installation this no longer happened and as with the guys above, felt far more feedback. As the rear engine mount is the torque mount it stops the engine from moving back and forth during acceleration and shifting.

As for the cable bushings im using the Hybrid Racing spherical shifter bushings. I am unsure if they still make the spherical one as I could not see it on their website - But it does provide a slightly stronger shifter feel, but could also be placebo.

lolmclol
11-08-2012, 02:23 AM
Seen a few, only thing to be weary of is the issue involving the side airbag on the chair (purchasing FN2R, or FD2R seats will have the side airbag), if not there's a thread on 8thcivic with a run down guide on how the sensor works in the chair ;-).

Also don't forget, should you follow through with the bride/recaro seats, you also have the chance of defects (yellow sticker), as well as if you are in an accident it can cause problems with the insurance company (non ADA aproved (wrong acronym?) and lack of air bag).

Not trying to deter you, its just what runs through my head every time I have the urge to purchase some recaros.

Do want blue DC5 recaros <3 :D. Trading one kidney!

I did receive something nice today, the TWM Big Type R shift knob, and oh boy is this thing sexy D: shifting is effortless now its so great.

I purchased a Skunk Gear shift knob, this weighs about 400 grams and made a definite improvement to shifting.
When I installed the Skunk I didn't use the lock nut and the knob sat noticably lower than standard.
The only drawback was the Skunk became lava hot and branded my hand in hotter weather.
I then purchased a TWM short shift adapter and base bushings.
Fairly easy to fit, and the best result. The shift is noticably shorter. About a third shorter to be precise.
The shift feels tighter and makes a most satisfying clunk.
From my research the cable bushings also make a huge improvement.
This will be my next investment.

Bit of an update on the Bommba engine mounts Duffy and I dropped into our daily drives

Righto I've knocked up 3000km and did a track day at Wakefield with these Boomba engine mounts over the last 10 days. Gotta say the car is alot more enjoyable to drive, traction outta corners at the track was awesome with my speed was up by 2-4kmh on the fast sections. Also got a new pb and managed to destroy a Megane, Clio Sport, Toyota 86 and a couple of Puegoet GTi's at the track !! lol . They all has similar spec rubber. Infact the 86 had trouble pulling more than a cricket pitch down the straight ! I was suprised.

Now when I installed em there is an heap of vibration under 1800rpm that disappears but come back with a drone above 3500rpm and gets really loud at 6800rpm. Anyway the mounts seem too have broken in and reduce in sound by 50%, but vibration is still present so I've left the top mount in and removed the bottom one and put back the OEM.

So if you track your car or love to do really easy burnouts or love a car that vibrates and annoys other drivers and pedestrians then the Boomba engines mounts are for you !!

Yes I will re install the bottom mount before the Honda Nats as it only takes a few minute and is worth atleast 0.5 sec.

Same here with the vibration. I am considering injecting the stock bottom mount and using that instead. The vibration after 1300kms for me is very evident still. Sometimes I get frustrated with it, and sometimes I don't notice it.

Sorry to drag this back up, but either Stevil or DuffyFD did either of you guys use threadlocker on the mount bolts? .. was reading on 8thcivic that one of the users there used it to ensure that even vibrations wouldn't loosen the bolts :-S.

Stevil

lolmclol having a ' solid mount' on top helps takes out the lateral movement which previously upset traction when changing direction, and yes it gives a tinge of vibration still at around 1300-1400rpm but its aint nothing like the 2 solid mounts together. The bottom mount transfer alot more of the vibration so removing and replacing with the stock mount shouldnt present any issues.

Didn't use thread lock on the bottom bolt, thanks for the heads up. My bolt was still tight as after 3000km and a trackday, I used a 20inch breaker bar and probably put over 100lbs on it.

Didn't use threadlocker but torqued enough and monitored the bolts too

Guys,

intending to powder coat my Gram Lights. The gunmetal/polished finish is getting boring.

Please VOTE:

A> TAKATA GREEN
B> MORPHEUS PURPLE

I'm inclining towards B...fav color PLUS I think it offsets the silver better.

Here's a current pic:

I say go purple.

Since we are talking about wheels, I need suggestions for my BBS RS theme. Was thinking of ceramic polishing the centres finely to get a full mirror polish look, and electro plating the waffle plates to compliment the gold bolts i will be getting. Here is a picture which shows what I'm going for. What do you guys think? Suggestions?

Had a lowbeam headlight blow the other day.

The lowbeams are hb4 (9006) bulbs, and theyre stock 55w.

I remembered reading a while back that the hb3 size (9005), which our highbeams use and stock 65w and the fitting is only slightly different.

Bought a pair today of Philips X-tremeVision in HB3 and trimmed and installed them during lunch.

Looking forward to see if there's a noticeable improvement in light over standard. Reflector headlight are so shit.

Duffy I'm keen on your feedback on these, I've been wanting to upgrade my lows for ages as I do a shit load of night time rural back roads and diff between highs and lows is huge.

groce..

doesn't matter about most of it, just that u usually end up with shocks that can't adjust much even though they offer '32 clicks' or whatever (like BC/HSD etc)

i'd suggest getting a good brand of shocks like koni/bilstein/kyp and coilover sleeves if you're insistent on height adjustability

that way you don't get that 'fullysick coilys' tax - my koni shocks have lasted 100k and still provide really good bump control, somethign you'll never get from any cheap coils

Intakes are bullshit on our cars. Theyre bullshit on most non turbo cars. Just for looks mainly and sound. You wont gain much at all from an intake.

Nah they're both fine. Just steer clear of fiberglass as a general rule.
