Applio --> how many watts are PCB SMD? are they LCD or what? super bright HID?

is a panel have 12 SMD/SMT/High power LED - so many name for these next generation LED.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m47/ebuyproduct/pcb12smd1.jpg

the 12 smd pcb measure 0.09A x 12 = 1.08w - my interior
the 6 smd pcb measure 0.04A x 12 = 0.48w - my boot, the stock glass holder wont big enough for the 12 smd pcb, but 6 smd pcb fits perfect

compare the the stock 0.41A x 12 = 5w bulb much less power

nice set up for both gerard and applio.

Gerard: Agree with with mini euro, looks complex.

Applio: I wouldnt mind making my boot brighter. At the moment, i have a strip of LEDs in the boot installed near the rear for better lighting. Interior, i like mine dim. Gives a nice mood feel :p

but i do store heaps of stuff in my boot, and sometime in the carpark i just cant find where i want because is too dimmmmmm

yeh I actually turn my centre interior lights off coz i find i don't actually need it for anything.

i've recently installed philips blue visions into my fd1, they seem to be sufficient. Not as good as the HID's i had before but atleast they're ADR approved and legal :)

my parkers are also blue visions but they're more yellow than white, anyone know which bulbs are best for a whiter colour?

SMD bulb is what you need

What about the license plate bulbs? I've tried using LED bulbs before, but because of the mounting position in 8th gen civic, the LED is not shining on the plate, if u get what I mean.. (because the light is focused to shine forward not sideways).. It's even dimmer than stock halogen..

i tried "1" "4" and "7" LED bulb in the number plate, because all led are focus light on forward, and the design of the number plate is sideway, all not much effect/bright

but the smd bulb, since the beam pattern look like this.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m47/ebuyproduct/DSC03070.jpg

best i used so far, the light pattern can reflect on the number plate and bright/white

Thanks gerard for the diy! I might actually do it when I have time.

Btw, where do I get that module from? Or will I have to make that myself too?

I bought the kit from Dexter in the Singapore Civic Forum

W00t... it's been along time coming... but finally my first mod!

MTEC halogen H.I.D (yeah i know... not real HID) cosmic blue/white bulbs in the low beams!

Got them from a trader here. Looks ok in the garage... but won't really comment till I've taken them for a test drive... maybe tomorrow evening.

Just need parkers now too... I realised white/blue halogens look a little funnny next to white/yellow halogens.

Ah... now for the exhaust :P

that's why i went for bluevisions (4000k), great for all weather conditions.

got them both for my hi and lo.

it came with parkers too, but those were rated as 3000k (quite yellow) so i might actually get one of those MTEC parkers.

do T10's fit in the FD1?

anyone know where to get those little red type R badges for the steering wheel?

Also, recently my wheels have been squeaking a little when I put on the brakes due to the cold weather. Mechanic reckons they can't do anything about it, only put new brakes on. Is this true? Anyone have any suggestions of how to stop them squeaking?

Also, if one is upgrading rims 4 larger than stock are there any ways to reduce the harshness of the ride? I've read implementing new shock absorbers can make the ride much more comfortable?

The only way to have red H badge for steering wheel are :
1. stickers
2. get JDM type-R airbag. they not sell only the badge;)

don't think it's relate to cold weather. may be just ur brake pad or rotors scratch ;)
but truly, FD brakes are crap. rotor and pad too small. I ordered 330 mm slotted rotors and 4 pot caliper already for my FD, just waiting they arrive.

Also, if one is upgrading rims 4 larger than stock are there any ways to reduce the harshness of the ride? I've read implementing new shock absorbers can make the ride much more comfortable?
coil and shock are the answer.:D
but don't expecting same as stock comfort

Frost_FD
28-05-2008, 04:11 PM
Firstly to decrease the noise coming from you brakes try sand papering your brake disc as they may be glazed.

With a much more comfortable ride with 19" i wish i new the true answer cause i want a more comforable ride.

Let me know how coils go

rk 86 wa
28-05-2008, 04:48 PM
lol 19 inches will not give you a comfortable ride stock rims= most comfortable

as to sand papering the rotors that could be bad for braking if you take a nick out of your rotor or dont have a completely flat surface lol..

on another note

mugen kit in for painting :)

will be fitted in 2 weeks *yay*

Frost_FD
28-05-2008, 04:50 PM
Just sand papper by hand.....

With everything you do you must take care.

You might be the first in Perth to get the mugen kit,

Im getting mine in 3 weeks but painting my self =D

rk 86 wa
28-05-2008, 06:31 PM
yeah thats true, you could remove most crap off your rotots by just hard braking most of the time,

Hey Guys,

Just did a test fit of the rims im gonna get for my civic. Borrowed 2 of the rims off a mate - who i think is on this forum (siknis, cheers bro)

any way - wasnt sure if they would fit or not being 20's. to my surprise they fit quite easily.

i will be getting coilovers to lower it more (its been lowered about 1.4 inches).

feel free to comment - looks a bit like a rollerskate at the height in the photos but once the coilovers go in it will be tuckin rim :P (i added a real dodgy pic that i 1 second photoshoped of around the height it will sit)

those rims are 8 inch wide and have a 225/30 tyre on it. the rear i will roll to prevent scrubbing but surprisingly they clear the guard well enough as is. the front i will roll - test turning yesterday and the wheels at that height still can achieve full lock without hitting either the inside or outside - i will lower it until they are just not touching. you can pick a 30 profile tyre in 20inch for around 200-220 here in canberra. would replace the tyres as needed - prob about once every 6 months.

white CF for gear and handbrake looks good if without TYPE R logo. Black CF is also sexy, matches the gear wrap and knob. Only disappointing thing is that theres no CF handbrake but only a leather cover. I think the white CF will match quite nicely with stock interior trim set which is also silver but no CF print

I got a Q for all you who have done a custom cat-back... not just FD1 specific I suppose:

The place I went to today to get info on a custom cat-back said the piping they'd use would be a quarter of an inch wider than stock. Now they said that any bigger there'd be issues with low end due to the backpressure being lessened. So you guys with the custom catbacks, did they use slightly bigger piping and did you notice any loss in the low end. It sounds like you're giving up torque in the low end for some more torque in the high end - which is useless on a daily driver.

So whats the go here, will a quarter inch larger piping make any difference in the low-end? Experiences?

Shimian
07-06-2008, 11:13 PM
i thought 2.25" was perfect for our car? Our stock i think is 1.6"-1.75" (confirm?). Raising it by 1/4 inch will just barely make 2". Maybe 2" is the way to go? Would like some confirmation too as im getting my muffler next week.

cracker
08-06-2008, 12:06 AM
i think were about 1.6" and ive heard a 1/4 inch wont really do much...but hey...thats me...

kazam
08-06-2008, 10:08 AM
i think between 2 and 2.25 would be perfect, as it is perfect for most NA cars, more than 2.5 heads into the Forced induction range and K series boyz. its a honda, low end power is usually non existant, i think your wasting your time paying big bux, for a .25" increase in pipe size... i think mandrel bend 2.25" SS piping is your best bet, then if u lose low end or watever, upgrade your intake and it'll make up for the loss

Eyelids- already paid for them, and it'll cost another $50 to get professionally painted and installed. Probably can sell for $25 or so.

Projectors- need to buy the projectors module PLUS new HID bulbs to make use of my existing Mu ones, and then installation costs.

it's more to do with the HIDs i already have... to upgrade to the projector ones, buy the new h7 bulb, and then get it all installed i'm looking at $400aud+ which just isn't worth it for something which isn't really going to do anything. if i was gonna spend that on changing something i already changed, i might as well save it and put it towards rims lol.

You can buy bulbs at about $40 each. Keep your exisiting ballasts.
What do you mean its not going to do anything? Its projected light and makes the car look hot. Then you can say why spend $1k on a bodykit which does nothing but looks? I think the projector headlamps is one of the best mods available for our FD.

Are you really gonna spend $1k+ on just the HIDs?

It uses standard 35w so I don't see why not. The actual issue of legality would be your car, whether your car originally comes with HIDs and if you have auto-levelling device and washers installed.

As in, because I've already modified headlights before and that cost me nearly $400, I don't think it's worth spending another $400 more on it. Would rather use the money for something else. Simple. If I hadn't done the HIDs before, and if I wasn't saving up for next car's mods, then I probably would get the projectors but as it stands now I think I'll pass. Probably just pop the eyelids on this weekend.

Shimian
18-06-2008, 08:00 AM
well, youll only need to spend another $100 or less to change the bulbs. Thats the only differrence.
Again, its up to you. Since you have mugen kit, led tail lamps, why not go for eagle eyes. I think the eyelids arent worth $50 to spray. Thats pretty much the $$$ for new bulbs.

i was just about 2 say that!! wen i was looking for rims, this was a common problem, even with RS GT's the 18's looked like 16's coz the spokes would fold or cave in before the edge making them seem smalller, especially on FD's wich look like bigger cars, u should really watch out for this issue!!!

oh and now i have 17's that reach the edge and evry1 mistakes them for 18's :)

I paid all up $930. This included the muffler, installation and mandrel bend stainless steel 2.25". Yes its expensive for a muffler, but i always loved the sound of a remus and also as mentioned, fell in love with the tips.
Its personal preference. Some people pay $100 off ebay for a cannon and some like me go for remus.

i have stock headunit and speakers. 4x100w RMS amp to 12" sub + front speakers.
get a slight boot rattle but its not too offensive from outside the car. am yet to determine exactly where its coming from. seems to be in the boot, to the sides.
sound from inside the car is sweet, might get a dedicated amp for the sub and use the existing amp to power the stock speakers.

leave the car as it is as it looks good. When youre driving it will lower abit and will look perfect. Try gaining some weight and will look more lower. LOL!

even you put 20" rims, still WON"T fill the gap. with 17" u get 45 profile, 18 get 40, 20 get 30. overall diameter always exactly same as stock (15 with 65).that's why the gap stay the same.only lowered is the answer.

Seriously, if you lower it you will lose the ride comfort and you will regret it. :)

Yeah pedders springs, 1inch and 3quarters (2 inches once the springs settle id say)
any lower and id have problems regarding insurance :thumbdwn:
I am very pleased with how it sits though.

Handling has improved and the ride is firmer; as you'd expect

Not enough to be uncomfortable, but my thoughts of uncomfortable may differ from the next guy.

Front lip is my only main concern really,
just have to get back into the old habit of doing the angles over certain driveways

The problem with the MUGEN front lip are the two "shark fin" looking bits poking out under it, these things hit everything in thier path.
though, as they do that they are getting shorter and shorter,
so the problem may just fix itself lol

Since we are in the topic of badges. I've thought of a cheaper way to get an instant JDM look which might cost less than 10 bucks.

My plan is to go to a sign shop and buy a small amount of Red vinyl sticker, an A3 size would be suffiecient and putting it in between the "H" badges for that instant JDM look. Even a carbon fibre vinyl would look good as well. The rear badge is the easies to do as you only have to take off the badge and cut the Red vinyl sticker to size and put the badge back on.

The front, you need to take out the badge as well, but you need a tin piece of plate around 0.5mm thick cut to the same dimensions of the front badge border. You then cover it with the Red vinly sticker and place it in between the grille and the "H" badge.

im thinking of just buying a rear RED H for like $65. Regarding the red stickers to go between the H badge, i have already done that to the steering wheel H. Not sure how good it will stay on if exterior.
