what ive heard about 3k to 3.5k for the b16a and around 5k for the b18c thats why i am leaning towards the b16a coz then i have more money to upgrade brakes etc

if you spend about 5k on a half cut for b18c you'll get the front brakes so no need to invest there,

overall the b18c has alot more of the torque feeling when you drive it on lower revs, top end for the b18 is awsome ,
i have both b16 & b18 in my eg's i prefer the vtec crossover from my b16a but the pull and power of my b18c,

before you do the engine swap, you might want to reconsider upgrading your sussy,

youve got about 10k,
b18c= 5k
labour= $2.8 (approx if you havent got EFI)

so you got about 2 grand left over,

hope this helps..

if you have 10k to spend go straight for a b18CR.

shits all over any b16a or b18c. With a b18cr engine you can easily do low 14 to high 13 sec pass.

ITR front cut will normally go for 7-7.5k.

Alternatively you can go for a b20 hybrid setup. your 10k budget is almost touching on k series territory as well....

if your in syd either shoot me or fatboyz39 a pm. we can arrange the swap for you at an affordable price :)

I would go b18c. There pretty rare to come by nowadays. We are selling b16a/b18c/b18c7 (type R) conversion packages installed for a affordable price.

Too many ppl got b16a hahaha

yes but with the b18c does the engine drop right in on the existing mounts as the b16a does? also im only 17 and am look for a car that will pull about 0-100km/h in about 6-7 secs and wont land me in alot of trouble.
thanks so far guys:D

vtec crossover in a b16a is much more stronger than b18c.. but why go for b16a in an eg when you have a chose of b18c? In the end, your doing an engine conversion for power.. so why not go 1.8L..

Stai

what do you mean by "stronger"

Bludger
27-06-2007, 09:03 PM
he means the difference between low cam and high cam is greater, so the VTEC kick is more noticeable

do a b18b conversion if u dont have much money to play with since your still young

can easily pick up a complete b18b for 700$

upgrade sussy and ur your front brakes to 282" rotors with itr/prelude calipers.

prolby cost u all up around 3k-3.5kmax

this setup will easily kill alot of eg's with b16a.

then later later down the track when you've saved up more money swap ur head for a vtec head. lsvtec with some mild head work your car will be fast.

best way to make the most of ur eg with little funds

what about a b18 with b16 head, since b16 has higher comp. is this called the poor man's vtec? anyone know how it performs.

If you are refering to a LSVTEC, when done right they can produce more power than B18c.... but if you are gonna go to all that trouble then you might as well use a B20b bottom end

be careful when turbocharging a non turbo car. not many insurers will insure u. im nearly on my fulls, i was gona purchase a turboed civic coupe which i saw on OH. i called up just cars to see if they would insure me in which they declined. so make sure u know wat ur doing.

next thing u need is a turboed car which is not insured

the k24 block and k20 head are actually pretty cheap, its sourcing parts like ecu, drivetrain, gbox etc etc that will tear him a new asshole with costs. but they will take over 6 months too accumulate so i figure he could afford it over time

clutch flywheel i/h/e bigger cams/pistons then quads. dont forget ur gonna need an ecu. then while doing all of this u should be upgrading your sussy and brakes along the way =] my 2cents.

it'll be pretty obvious that you need to tune your car after putting in cam shafts and cam gears anyway..
somone would ov told him that unless he wanted to drive the car sounding like a rotary.. lols!.

changed my mind.. now tho.. b18>b16
