Strange problem with my tacho

I have a 2000 EK CXi and coz it didn't come with a tacho, I installed an aftermarket one a few days ago.

now the problem is, when I turn on the wipers, the rev reading drops to 0 then as soon as the wipers stop, it jumps back up to the correct reading.
I only noticed this today becoz it was raining.

anyone ever seen anything like this before or know how to fix it?

Only thing i could think of is just to check your wiring, make sure no wires are touching ones they shouldnt.
But sorry ive never seen that before.
