Hey guys im up for new tyres i need 205/40 17. my budget is 100-180 each tyre atm i have fulda on it @$225 per tyre is a little too much for me to spend. I need something with descent tyre wear, descent handling wet and dry and not too noisy any recomendations?

Cool thanks. I've got falkens on atm not sure how much they cost as i got them in a wheel tyre package. They're quite and good in the dry but i don't like them much in the wet so looking for a new brand. How are your tyres in the wet?
Cheers.

hmmm.....how wet was the road and and how fast were u going? i've driven them on the wet many times (including recently) and had no problems at all. but then again, while on the wet i go at least 10kms under the speed limit.

this is definetly out of the price range but i just picked up a set of michalen preeceda's 205/45/17 for me civic, set me bak $240 a tyre but i couldnt be happier with the ride now, i consider it a good investment, after all the tyer plays a big role in saftey and handling

Michelin Preceda definately one of the best tyres on the market, always very quiet, corners very well despite the conservative tread pattern, one of the best ride quality sports tyre around and most importantly very predictable breakaway and retains much of its grip down to the wear limit. Buy some cheap bunky tyres that might be less than half the price of the Precedas, but they tend to be almost undrivable in the wet after half worn with very little grip left.

Your safety rely much to the grip from your tyres, afterall the contact patch of each tyres is only slightly larger than the size of your palm.

People like to justify by saving say $50 for a cheapie instead of a good quality reputable tyre they save $200 for the set. Yes $200 is $200 but it's about say 4 tankfuls worth of fuel in a Civic. During the lifespan of a set of tyres you would go thru say 80-120 tankfuls of fuel, so think about that.

BFG G Force sport a very good tyre, had them on my EGSi b4 replacing them with the re001. Yes they are wholly owned by Michelin.

Rides well, pretty quiet tyre. feels more like a Bridgestone tyre, ie the RE711 with softer sidewall or GIII without the tread squirm. Only gets slightly noiser and no big drop offs in grip as the tyre wears either.

If you can source them at a good price then great, as in your 205/40R17 size they are never cheap unless they have a clearance special on. They would be a better bet than the Fuldas.

Pic of the tyre free standing next to the re001 on the car:
