I am interested in getting a throttlebody for my D16A engine
would a B16A throttlebody fit on my car?
what about theB18C (DC2Vti-R) throttlebody

which one whole be better?

B series throttle body's will bolt up to MOST D-series manifolds, if you have a pic of the side of your manifold I can compare it to my TB or someone else can confirm.

ITR TB's are 62mm
B18C TB's are 60mm
B16A1 TB's are 58mm
B16A2 TB's are 60mm

You may have to alter the vacuum and/or throttle position and MAP sensor wiring but it should go ok.
Otherwise you can get your stock one bored out, most Honda TB's can be bored up to 4mm larger.

Here's a tip, get a Ford Falcon XF throttle body.. they are 70mm and a lot cheaper than spoon :D

Yes it does: http://www.teirney.net/civic/ThrottleBody.htm
Remember you need to port your intake manifold to notice any real gains other than throttle response. Also, since Type R's have a 62mm tb, you have to question whether your car actually needs a 70mm tb. When they get that big they can actually get to the stage where it does more harm to performance than good.

Agreed with Xsi. also see if you have done the basic I/H/E before going to the throttlebody- IMO leave it last, because honda built each intake for the specific engine...and if think you really need a bigger TB, you may wish to consider doing a bore on your oem, save you some money of geting a brand new piece:o)

but surely a falcodore part can't be worth that much rite :P

Can you guys plz explain this to me?

Firstly, what is my factory intake manifold size (b16A), and factory throttle body size?

Say if i upgrade my throttle body to a 70mm one, does the intake manifold have to be 70mm as well? What i mean is, is this how the theory goes? IE. Intake manifold size = throttle body size?

Thansk~!

EG is - 62mm, and "No" the intake manifold doesn't have to be 70mm if you want to upsize your TB, but it's pretty much pointless if you haven't done I/H/E as indicated above. An increase TB has little gains on a highly tuned NA car, imagine what sorta gains you'd get with a close to stock NA car? Virtually nothing.

While IMO a 70mm is way too big for a B16 unless you're running some real serious engine work and have gone all out on NA tuning or FI - Where the major gains from the TB upgrade can be seen. The Spoon B16 running the 70mm TB has major engine rework and major performance parts in place to suit that need therefore justifying the upsize. Increasing the TB will provide you better throttle response across the rev-range instead of horsepower, in racing applications - Consistency is what you're ideally looking for, and having that extra one bit means everything.

EG is - 62mm

B16A1 TB are only 58mm not 62mm as mentioned earlier!
B16A2-3 are 60mm!!

d16a throttle body size is only 55mm!!
you can use B series throttle bodies with D series engine, but not the intake runners/manifold! but you can get them machined to match!

Or farking sorry ... I didn't know it was so small. Other than the size dimensions, TB upgrades is still pointless. I don't see why it needs to stop at 70mm, might as well go all out and get it up to 100mm and see what happens.

yeh good one, why not try boring it out to 2 inches!

you will notice a difference in throttle response but this is all relative to what mods you have done. i experienced alot of loss in low-down power, but gain heaps in the top end! this is on a b18c! going too big is not wise because your engine cannot produce enough vacuum to move the air!

hey there...

this was on my DC2....a stock B18C throttle body is 60mm, i bored it out only slightly to 62mm....same as ITR TB. experience a fair difference in overall response. was a good mode...but i had intake/headers/exhaust as well!

cheers

I had mine bored to 63mm, there was a nice boost in throttle response but I doubt there was any HP increase

one more chance : cool, sounds good... i'll definetly look into this... after i get my I/H/E done :).

cheers.
