Hey ppl,

Really stumped over a problem with starting my b18. Getting to the end of a conversion and having problems starting. I know this has been brought up couple times and generally requires fuel relay attention, but my relay is fine.

Problem is:

When I turn the key to ACC, fuel pump doesn't prime every time (only very rarely works). It primes once in a while but even then, when trying to start the engine, just keeps trying to ignite (like theres no fuel). Most of the time fuel pump fails to do anything. My VAFCII also doesn't work in conjunction with the fuel pump. Either both work or both don't. But when they rarely do work, both seem to turn off when trying to start the ignition.

Checked the fuel relay already. Works fine in another car. Also, the fuel pump makes a noise when connected to power source, so don't think its dead, and it does work once in a while (. Also, VAFC worked fine with this engine in the DC2r I got them from. So wiring should be ok.

REally stumped. If anyone has any ideas Id really appreciate your input. thanks.

could be ECu related. Try to put another ECu in

ECU was fine just before I took engine out though. But its been unused for over a yr. But didn't think this would matter.

hey FB39, that's what I thought at first but we pulled the crappy AM alarm out before putting the loom in. Also, didn't think this would affect the operation of VAFCII unit.

Although I do have a lone BLU/GRN wire under the steering wheel that we have yet to account for. It's a single line coming out of the loom and a plug attaches right under the steering wheel. Has power to it at all times. We thought it was for the LED under the driver's air vent for the alarm but it has power even when I turn the ignition. I can't really remember but I thought the LED turned off once the alarm was disengaged.

Besides that one wire, everything else on the loom is accounted for, and we're pretty sure the whole alarm system has been cut out.

hey FB39, DC2r's come with standard immobiliser? I bought mine with an AM one so not too sure. But even if it does I wouldn't think it would have a fuel cut-off as std???

could it be a main relay rather than the fuel relay??

also check your earths, im guessing you have already though.

You said in the first post that the pump doesnt prime on ACC, it should only prime when in the ON position i thought, not ACC.. im sure thats what you meant though..

ummmm. trying to think of other possible faults. So you tested the pump and it seems ok??

If you have another pump spare you should try that.

My moneys on a wiring issue rather than a mechanical issue though..

Because the car is at a mates, I can't really check until the wkend, but I'll try all your suggestions and let you know how things go. If it still doesn't work I'll come back and let you know what I've eliminated atleast. Thanks for your help ppl.

I'm pretty sure its wiring aswell because the VAFC cuts out in conjunction with fuel pump, but trying to think of what could be wrong with the wiring. IT all seems pretty fine to me. I'll see how I go. cheers

as mentioned above the DC2R ECU has an immobiliser in it. yes it will work fine in the car before you remove it, but in another car it wonr work.

its not hard to disable the immobilser in the ECU

hey ECU-MAN,

Is it easy to do? How do I go about it? So this could explain my issues with fuel pump and VAFCII???

So how come it doesn't work in anotha car? I transferred the whole loom, dash, ignition barrel everything. Didn't know it would be a prob. cheers man.

read this (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48704) and you decide if its easy to do.

did you also install the black immo control unit ??

by the way,,,, so there's no way that I can use the ECU without bypassin immob?
I don't see why it shouldn't work in my civic when I have transferred almost everythin outta the dc2!! Didn't even think that it wouldn't work in another shell.
