 Well I was getting my mechanic to change over the gearbox for me in my 89 civic. And I call him up a week later (today) and he tells me its ready but the spedo doesnt work. Im like wtf and he says somethin musta gone wrong when he was putting the speedo thinging back in the gearbox.

Now he says he spent 2 hours trying to fix it and tells me he wont be able to look at it again till next week. So I am going to pick my car off him and he has charged me an extra 100 for labour for this.

The speedo was working fine when I dropped it in, shouldnt it be his responsibility not mine to fix something he didnt do right? I shouldnt have to pay for it.

Arggg I think I will just change mechanics

Where exactly is the speed meter in the gearbox? is it inside the actual gearbox? I.e could it be a problem with the second hand gearbox I got?

Thanks!

Edit:: Car is 89' civic manual hatch

If it's like mine there should be a VSS which plugs into the box, you have to be careful with it so as not to damage or bend the cable. If he has damaged it he has to fix it.

Tell him to fix it. Otherwise say you are going to take it to another mecahnic who CAN fix it and you agoing to get him to pay for it. If he agrees to this, get it in writing and take it to Hanny's in Smithfield.

You shouldn't have to pay for his mistakes.

tell him if it's not fixed then you'll call the MTA. :)

edit: that's if he is a member of the MTA...or call departmend of fairtrading for advice.

Its hard cause he is our family mechanic and has been for over 15 years. Its unlike him to screw me around, he is usually quite good. But I dunno, I am taking it back to him after the hsc for him to fix and if he tries to charge me ill rip his balls off

And what's exactly wrong or should I say so bad about Hannys? If it's good enough for the highly priced Hondas, it's good enough for the rest, that's how I see it.

i was trying to ascertain whether you had understood the sarcasm in my previous post. i wasn't bagging Hanny's, i was referring to a private joke among a few others here. and dont call me "son". you don't know me and i don't appreciate it. show some respect or keep your mouth shut. its meant to be all friendly around here. we dont need know-it-all smartarses.
i dont care how nice your car is or how much Honda knowledge you possess if you're going to keep your fukd attitude.

c'mon boys, you know you 2 are made for each other  (joking btw :D )

Yeh, 1 week to fit a gearbox. I dropped my car off to honbits on sunday, and picked the car up on tuesday with a new engine, 1 week just for a gearbox sounds like you should probably find someone that knows hondas a little better

Hanny's

'nuff said :P:P:P:P

BTW - it's a cable speedo and all they had to do was hook up the cable as the box should have had the speedo gearset already in it - that or they just had to swap it in out of the old box.

Bottom line: your mech sucks ass and you should have got Robbie to do it :P

heheh hannys plug again. Yeh he said he spent 2 hours trying to fix the gear set and he then said he thinks its not the actual gear set.

Meh he is really annoying me.

just becareful that you don't give your own personal opinion too much as he doesn't seem to like it when people vent their opinions, especially those that do not concur with his!!! he is superior to us, us mere mortals need to keep our uneducated and inferior scrutineerings to ourselves!
