As per the title. Tried to search but it doesnt seem like this topic has been covered with CD/CB accords yet. Just wanting to know what the general opinion is with the type of OIL that is used for V-tec engines. I've been using Magnatec.

WHAT DO PPL USE (or recommend)??? :D

Mobil1 oil ;p on mine f22b1 turbo LOL !!..

i used gt3 they werent that bad..
you might want to got like 20w/40 ish? coz engine is old.. and 20 25 is more likely better on higher kms engine..

but honda were like 10w or 15w and still ok.. basicly if you change your oil every 5 K get something that suits your budget.

Gt3, magnatec is ok. might wanted to try motul or mobil1 :) i heard they were much better.

yeh i change mine every 5k kms, and the reason why i use magnatec is the guy from supercheap recommended it. viscosity 10w-40w. that's y i wanted to ask u guys coz he might not know about vtec engines...if it makes any difference at all.

Motul, whats the viscosity on that? i'll have a look at supercheap for that next time im there. i jsut dont wanna spend too much $$$ on oil where i know that something that's $40 is more than good enough for an engine that's under 12yrs old. but thanks for the tip, definitely look into it.

I'll have a look on the bottle tomorrow and let you know? But it's not cheap the motul oil i use is the top one i'll post the exact name tomorrow but it's about $100. I don't know if they will stock it at supercheap i get it at autobarn. A lot of people will say it's not worth putting oil that costs that much into my engine but i know i can rely on it. And thats the main thing. Also i drive it pretty hard. :D

GT3 is terrible. It gums up if your engine operates at high temperatures.

His engine is from the CB/CD. Those need 10w-40 standard and can go up to 15w-50. Your engine needs 10w-30 and can only go up to 15w-40.

You're probably using 300V. Good oil. :)

Magnatec is ok. You can stick to that unless you want to go synthetic. If you do, then just look for a 10w-40 synthetic. Most synthetics are 5w-40 though.

u talking about Honda FEO? How much does it cost anyway, out of curiosity. I dont remember exactly, but I think I pay around $35-$40 for Magnatec. I guess if FEO would be around the same price, maybe I should change.

Nah, I meant if 040501912's car was a turbo VTi-S, it would need oil changes every 5k and spending on mobil1 5w-50 each time would be justified.

FEO is about $30 from the dealer. Try both. They are different viscosities (10w-30 vs Magnatec's 10w-40), so FEO might feel a little more free-revving but could also burn more oil. If you do your own oil changes, then it's only $30 + oil filter + crush washer to try. :)

You know Honda charges me $1.50 for that stupid Crush Washer? FAR OUT!!!! Geez! Hey Aaron can you get the same at bunnings or repco? I wanna buy bulk!

Yeah I think FEO is pretty Free Reving, I havent noticed it burning any oil as such. I change my oil every 5k and my car's got 143K on it which means i'm almost due for an oil change. I've all ways had the saying, Oil is much cheaper than a new engine, so look after it and it will look after you. :D So oil change at every 5K for me :D

I get mine from Destrukshn. Otherwise, try a dedicated nut and bolt shop. Just go for aluminium crush washers.

My car gets oil changes at 7k, just because I don't drive enough. :p

hey dude,

Spoon: recommended feo even for occassional tracks... changed at every 5K
I've used feo, elf, motul chrono, mobil 10-30 they are all good oil..which depends on your budget and the usage :) if for daily driving ithink, feo should do the job :) but for vti spec.. its recommended to use 10-30 as honda specs. if too high its bad for the vtec .. that what i research.. and teh car is more revving at 10-30 compare 5-50 etc.. correct me if im wrong :)
hope that helps..

btw.. just like most ppl say previously. if u regularly change the engine oil,oil filter, transmission oil together at 5k..it should be sweet.. u should have problems

Watch the DVD again, they recommend JDM FEO. JDM FEO comes in semi and full synthetic flavours as well and is SM rated. :) http://www.honda.co.jp/afterservice/parts/oil/hop-oil/index.html

But yeah, go for 10w-30 to start. You can go 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30, 0w-40, 5w-40 and 10w-40 and everything will still work properly and protect well.

Just look at the pics. It tells you everything. Viscosity is in numbers as well, so you can find that among the japanese.

I use fuchs gto 10w40 for my lude (with h22a4 engine). Works really well.

Alternatively is Mobil 1.

Magnatec is good for temporary use only.
