No its not a riddle.:D

Just came back from the mechanics & was told that I have 2 broken engine mounts. I was wondering how many more do I have holding the engine in place? I'm playing it safe & arent driving it any more. Any ideas on how I would break these?

The car had been in a minor front end prang 18months ago, however no issues prior to last weekend. For the last few months its only been on city roads. I guess its possible a speed bump was enough to do it.

the front ender wouldve been the major factor in your engine mounts braking seeing as tho its only a 4 year old car, but none the less wear and tear of daily driving does take its toll..
your car would be fine to drive but your engine wont sit as stable as it wouldve with 4 perfect mounts.

4 in the DC5.

Your engine should be okay to drive on however I'd want to get them changed over ASAP.

Have you been doing axel tramping a bit by launching the car or otherwise?

Are you after stock mounts? I might have a set good to go in a week or so.

Very informative responses, thanks. As much of a nuisance it is I wont be driving it. There is a fair amount of knocking when accelerating.

Thank for the offer Mugsee but my mechanics taking care of it all.

You should have seen my engine mounts! All the casts were fine... and I doubt the structure of your mounts are cracked etc either.. but on my car.. ALL the engine mount bushes were either non existant or severely cracked/disentegrated... I drove around on engine mounts with basically the same as no bushings for months and it was fine... annoying (ie throttle is hyper sensitive and bumps make the engine rock back and forth crazily.... but it wont' cause any damage.. not in my experience anyway...

It might be worth your while just getting replacement bushes... if you have the time/patience, I would remove each mount and inspect them one by one and see which ones have screwed bushes and just order new inserts.. or burn the rubber out and fill them with a soft urethane compound... buying the entire mounts (ie metal and all) is overkill.

Well just got my car back. I'm wondering if these were genuine Honda parts would there be any identifying features on them? On the squarish mount it has "S6M or 56M" marked & the other mount has "6M" (last pic). Is this normal damage when these go? What usually causes this to happen? I'm still a little in the dark as to what may have caused this to happen and if theres anythingelse I should be looking for.

Just when I think this saga is over I hop into my car & notice the windscreen has a crack in it. Of course the mechanic knows nothing about it. And while on a hat-trick, go to start my car it has a flat battrey & needed a jump start. This has never happened before. Oh & im looking for a new mechanic :)

What state are you in?

How big is the crack?
As often you may not spot smallish ones for some time; I just found a chip in my windshield that I haven't seen before but it looked old; now that I know where it is, I always notice it

Those are the OEM mounts and thats pretty common wear and tear; however shouldn't happen on an '03 unless it's been given a hard time; and all things considered ie the accident

Often mechanics will leave the keys in the "ACC or ON" position by accident but a few minutes driving takes care of this, I know I do this fairly often; or the cold weather now your battery might not be up to it any more, should be fine in warmer weather again

I mean really you can't blame the mechanic for the flat battery nor the crack in the windshield unless he caused it intentionally or dropped something on it; if it happened during a road test ie a truck flicked a stone, it's not his fault and unfortunately you have to wear it either way

Those mounts look healthier than mine did lol - that said mine were from 17 years ago. Makes a pretty big difference having fresh mount bushes
