Hi, can an expert tell me whether VtiR and Vti are the model name or engine?
I have been arguing with friends over this. Can someone tell me the difference etc? and does Vti come in VTEC?

VTi and VTiR are different trim/spec levels of the same car; both sporting a different motor although both Vtec if I remember correctly

Who cares about VTi's anyway when you can get a Type R :P

its the model name; major difference being the engine.

vtir came with a b16a DOHC VTEC
and vti is a d16y(?) SOHC VTEC

Vti and Vti-r relate to the "Car Model"

They are both differet specs, the Vti-R has extras to the Vti.

And of course the engines are different.

So its really both, the car and the engine.

the only thing they have in common is the chassis. The features (inc engine) are different.

EK sedans that are vti dont have VTEC engines.

Vti and VTiR is the car model, not the engine usually.

'I' usually means Fuel injected.

As so in GLi, Si, Vei etc.

I said EK sedan, i never said hatch.

There is no Vti EK hatch.

Only CXi, GLi, VTiR.

EG came in VTi which had SOHC VTEC engines in both the hatch and sedan.

Only EK that came with the SOHC VTEC engine was the Vti "Coupe"

all trim that has "V" (Vti, Vti-R, Vei, Vi), have Vtec engine, but in different flavors
Vti-R DOHC Vtec B-series engine

EG Vti SOHC Vtec 16 Valve engine (1.6lt D16Y1)
EG Vei SOHC Vtec 12V to 16 V engine for economy.

EK Vti sedan SOHC Vtec 12V to 16V engine for economy (1.6lt D16Y5).
Trust me, they do have VTEC.. I owned one of this before.

EJ Vti coupe SOHC Vtec 16V engine (1.6lt D16Y8)

There is a term SOHC Vtec I, which is a true 16 Valve.
SOHC VTEC II is 12 Valve to 16 Valve VTEC.
