I've been looking at getting some bucket seats for my car and am finding myself drawn to the fixed back bucket seats i.e sparco and bride rather than the reclinables. My car is an EM1 coupe and I have been lead to believe that it's illegal for me to have 1 let alone 2 fixed back buckets in my car. I have read that for me to get away with it I need to register my car as a 2 seater and I was wondering if anyone on here had been through this process?? What do I have to do and what are the associated costs with this? Any further information would be greatly appreciated too!

just depends what state your in. in QLD it's easy, remove back seatbelts and get it Mod plated as a 2 seater, done.

Ok should have added that I was in Sydney. The process is probably similar.......what is a mod plate and where you get it done? Might help narrow down who I should speak to

1) Go to an engineering signatory (list here (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi15rev-12_july07.pdf)), get it inspected and passed.
2) Go to an AUVIS (inspection station) and get an updated blue slip
3) Go to the RTA and give them the engineering certificate and blueslip, they will re-register the car as a 2 seater.

Yeah I'll give my local engineer a buzz and see what he says, doesnt sound like it should be too expensive

Go to an Engineering Signatory first, talk to them about what you propose to do. Have them carry the work out; they will constructe/modify your car to comply with all relevant ADRs.

Follow steps 2 & 3 from Kid Dynamite!

the OP says he is from sydney so fatboyz is spot on

a side note, is it possible to go from 4-> 2 then back to 4 seater later on ?

Yes Zico, it is.

You will need to get everything done again to comply with relevant ADRs.

I've had this done in Vic. Just take the seats and seatbelts out and show Vicroads, then they'll change it on their records.

you have to report your car as 2 seater. and once you do that, it is almost imposible to re-register your car back into 4 seater... so yeah... you have to think about it mate...
