When do you get your honda serviced? by months, by kms, or whichever comes first?

I ask because my car has just gone 6 months old, but has only done 7000kms. Also, i'm not sure wether I should get it serviced at a dealer to keep warranty in check.

What do you peeps think?

Whichever comes first because if you do few kms in 6 months, it means you are doing short trips. Short trips that don't allow your engine oil to heat up fully to evaporate moisture will cause your oil to turn acidic from the sulphur in fuel. The sulphites plus water will produce sulphuric acid. That's why if you do very short trips, your car is classified under extreme conditions.

Once a year - Thats plenty - Always done it with all my cars I've owned with no dramas at all. I see cars now having 15000 - 20000 between servicing... About a years worth of "average" driving. Makes you think what is sooo special about that engine compared with Hondas engines... Just my 2 cents.

Those engines that do 1 year servicing don't use the engine oil to move any interlocking pins like in Honda's VTEC mechanism. Also, BMW and Mercedes that have 1 year service intervals use engine oils that are fully synthetic. In contrast, Honda FEO is mineral and won't last 1 year.

For the cost of a good oil and filter i don't think this is an area worth economising on.

Oh my, owning Euro since January this year I've done almost 7,200kms. I kept the car mostly at home when I'm going to work. Does it mean it would cause bad to the engine?

Relax mate. Your engine is fine. Just service it according to the book.

I didn't say it causes harm to the engine. The oil just gets acidic. Not good if you do 12 month servicing intervals. 7200km is normal. I was talking about those that do short journeys to work like my gf. Her car gets driven 6kms a day, 3 km there and 3 km back from work (only about 1000+km every 6 months). That is harsh to the oil and so it will need frequent oil changes eventhough the servicing interval is 12 months (european car).

For cars that do short journey to and back from work, take it for long drive on the weekends.... warm up and high rev it every now and then to get all the carbon deposits out would be good too....

I have my car serviced every 10,000 kms, which is about once every 10 weeks for me (thats a lot of freeway driving). :)
