Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and I have one question. I have a new Civic 2007 which does not have a keyless remote boot opener. What do I need to do to have this feature so I can approach a car and be able to open the boot with remote control from the outside of the car? I do have a solenoid but it is not installed yet. My question is how do I hook up a remote control to solenoid ? I do not mind having a separate remote control for this function? Has anybody done this?
Thanks

It's better to have it installe from the factory if it's available.

otherwise you can get the boot release kit.. similar to the door ones... it'd still be a matter of getting it wired to your alarm system...

Thanks for this. The problem is that I do have a kit but do not knowis how do I add the remote to it. And I don't think that new civic has factory alarm system installed.

one thing for sure... u need to consult this with the dealer i guess (also regarding voiding warranty, etc). Or maybe Auto Electrician can help?

Well, I have talked to a dealer and they were not mentioning anything about warranty. They only said that I have to use aftemarket products because they do not do it... I have not talked to auto electrician yet.

denot is correct... its safer to ask if it voids warranty since you will be modifying the way a mechanism functions.

I doubt very much the factory central locking computer can support an add-on such as this unless the kit you bought came with it's own remote and computer.

you are better off getting an alarm that supports this function... naturally a decent alarm would be good but if you really want just the remote boot, get a cheapo alarm installed... most pager alarms support this but not many of them are ADR approved...

Thanks, I will check with a dealer first!

Ok, I have checked with the dealer and I was told that this won't affect the warranty.
My queastion was more technical one: How would you hook up the aftermarket solenoid to a remote control, either new one or exisitng OE one!

each button on a remote activates a plug-in channel from the alarm/central locking ecu. unless your factory one has a spare port and accomodating spare button then it cannot be done.

the only way to do it would be to wire it in with your door solenoids which is gonna be crap.

thats why i suggested an aftermarket alarm unit as they have room for add-ons that can be activated with certain buttons or combinations of buttons

***EDIT***
but as mentioned earlier, if your remote boot release unit comes with a computer (it will come with its own remote) then just hook it all up

Thanks for your input. Would it be than possible just to add remote control and module to a boot trunk solenoid and have a separete remote which would work only for boot. I am happy if I can have that and I can live with a new remote cause the factory key has only two buttons and no separate remote unit. If I can have achieve that, my question is more how to do it and where to find appropriate unit . How do you add remote control to aftermarket boot solenoid which does not have any electronic unit (computer)?.It has got only solenoid, button switch and wiring to hook it up to button switch. I am not very keen to install alarm because I am not sure about its value. But, hey, I might be wrong!?
Cheers

I have seen the remote boot mechanism/solenoid for sale on eBay.. i was personally researching it's feasibility since the Del Sol did not have an internal release switch (key only).

I will try find the link and post up, i cannot remember if it came with the computer/remote unit though.

It will have to be installed in the boot near the mechanism in a certain direction. the way it works is similar to having it manually.. it merely pulls on the cable via motor/solenoid that would otherwise get pulled by the internal release switch

All of these solenoids that I have seen come without remote control. They all have button switch. ( I do have a lever in the car!) However if you find something let me know. Thanks for your help!

Kit shops actually have remote kits that can activate the button instead... BUT... i'm not gonna go there :p

I dont' think this has been mentioned but in certain markets, the remote boot release is actually an option on our civic. You can easily source for the factory key from dealers in the other markets, the only problem would be getting it wired but I'm sure any auto electrician could easily get it done. It may be a better option as you still get the factory look (Key looks exactly the same with 1 more button) and it would be good for me because I hate things hanging on my car key, I just keep the key on its own.

Very nice key. Pity we do not have it here!
