Hi,

I'm not actually a honda owner, my car is actually a pulsar sss. However I'm about to transplant an sr20ve (neovvl - think vtec) engine into it and I need some one to tune it. I thought you guys might have some ideas on who i can talk to for the best results with a vtec hi-ish compression (11.5:1) engine. Im hoping for around 110-120fwkws once its tuned. Of course, thats all motor.

I just thought id do a bit of a speel for people who havent heard of the VE. The engines put out around 140kw at the flywheel but respond very well to mods. Unlike the Teggy Type R engines, they arent any where near tuned to the limits as a stock engine combo. They are pretty much an unknown quantity here in oz, and are only starting to be worked on overseas. Soon we hope to have our 1st aftermarket camshaft avaiable. Unfortunatly for us, being a new engine means there arent many products available, but at least its something a bit different i suppose!

Anyways thanks in advance

Cheers
-Gary

Are you on pulsar.org?

I suggest you get in contact with http://www.missnismo.com/ (she has since taken the info about her last car off the site). She used to own a transplanted SR20VE.

Yes I know about her car, yes I am a member of the pulsar group. Hers was a very basic example though. Just a basic transplant.

Im going Fujitsubo extractors, 3" exhaust, Greddy Emange ecu, Greddy MSS for Vtec controlling, Lightened flywheel, Nismo lsd, brass button clutch etc etc. Thats just stage 1. I will be doing all the work bar the [acronym:b6196b9b84="Limited Slip Differential"]LSD[/acronym:b6196b9b84] into the gearbox and the tuning of course

speak to Adrian at Toda, very very knowledgeable guy, bit of a woos when it comes to beer i heard tho?

As for ur pulsar engine, its kinda dissappointing to see nissan still not upping the game, at 2 litres ur benchmark engine is the New Type R engine at 2 litres displacement and 160+ kws :) better luck next time :P

I didnt post this message to start some honda vs nissan shit slinging match so take it else where please. The sr20ve was never meant to be a type r contender. Its sold in family cars, traditionally if you wanted power from a nissan you went the turbo route

Good on you gary for going the VVT way - for those who actually do know anything about the past history between nissan and honda, there is a 1600 CC racing class in japanese where the civic B16 VTEC is contented against the Lucino VZR (pulsar) sr16VE.

Nissan never intended the sr20ve to compete with the ITR B18 vtec for that matter.

peace

Gary D:Thanks for the info on the SR20ve... I was looking at pulling the L20 out of a '74 Datto 240K and dropping in a SR20DET (for a JDM Skyline 2000GT-R look/feel), but going the NA route with one of these could be a much better option :)

As for the Honda vs Nissan stuff - not nice when someone comes looking for info. Nissans are great cars too - better than Hondas in some regards (certainly in popularity).

Didnt realise people had still posted in my thread. There is a guy in sydney currently looking at bolting an Sr16ve N1 (nissan equivalent of the 1.6L CTR) head onto his N/S s13 sr20de with upped compression and all the good bits in the bottom end. Last time i talked to him he was looking to build the engine for around 300hp n/a.

Luznit: The engine i got was very cheap $1000. I wouldnt expect to find many more at that price. Usually they are around the $3.5k mark

I think the best thing about the sr20ve is that its relatively untuned from the factory whereas the type r's are built for racing. Theres guys in the states making 150wkws with just sr16 N1 cams, exhaust, vtec controller, ecu. The sad part is very few manufacturers make parts for them as they are fairly rare, and only sold in family type cars. Tomei and the like have cam grinds for them but they dont have billet cams for them, they just do regrinds. JWT in the states are supposed to have their cams, springs, retainer combo on the market by xmas and then a full bottom end setup not too far down the track.

If you havent seen it before, heres a cool bmi vid of the civic type r vs the pulsar vzr n1 and then spoon ctr vs pulsar n1

i remember reading an article in NZPC magazine about the SR16VE.
apparently its got 128kw (correct if wrong) and that it was compared to VTEC and MIVEC. They rated the VTEC and MIVEC above the SR16VE and that it wasnt as good as it all seems.

In what way? That vtec was more advanced than neovvl or the car was just slower than an equivalent honda/mitsubishi car?

if you happen to grab the latest issue of New Zealand Performance Car mag.
the article is on their. A whole article on the VZR and compared to SiR civic and cyborg mirage. It's not that the person was saying it was a crap car, he just said that its got doesnt have the 'revvy' nature when compared to VTEC and MIVEC.
Personally i think that they are really in competition with honda and mitsu. The SR16VE has about 128kw so its not that bad.
