Hi guys,
I just got my new Jazz 2 weeks back. Only recently, I noticed the bar just under the doors are badly finished. i.e. instead of a straight smooth bar, it is uneven.
Another thing, the exhaust pipe has started to rust as well...is this usual?
I will try to get photos 2nite. Anyone else has the same problems with their new jazz?
Please help...

Yup, I will do that tonight after work.
I am pretty sure I have not bumped into anything on the bottom of the car...
If its two weeks old it should not be rusting
Take it back and get it replaced

any metal on a car can get surface rust - look at your front brake discs after a day or two of non-use. This comes straight off mind you.

Sorry guys, couldn't get my bl**y camera to work. Will borrow from a friend later today and upload the pics.
Honda actually has a 6 year rust proof warranty and probably I can get them to change the rusty exhaust pipe. But the underside bar still puzzles me...more tonight...

Brakes are a taken but the exhaust should not start to rust after two weeks

need to know exactly where the "rust" is - the jazz pipe isnt a polished tip its a mandrel bent piece of mild steel it appears. So it could attain surface rust if scratched or chemicals have peeled at the top layer.
Also the side skirt under the door is the fold/seam weld part of the body , and is supposed to be quite rough. It looks bad i know so get the optional bodykit ( vti-s) or spray it black lol

Sorry for the delay. Here are the photos:

The rusting part is actually at the rear of the exhaust. You can see the rust has gone full circle...

And this is the bar I am talking about...just under the door and stretches from one end to the other end. It is very rough and the paint job is just plain ugly...
You can click on the pics to enlarge them

I want to check with other Jazz VTI owners if they have the same problems with that ugly paint job and finishing. Or is it just me....:(

both pictures look completely normal. The funny finish on your lower skirts is sound deadening/rust proofing spray ( see how its alittle up the bottom of the car too , to protect against chips etc)

as mentioned the rough finish is completely normal, its on most cars, sprayed on stone guard.

Thanks guys! I think I will get the side skirt to cover that ugly sides. As for the rusty exhaust pipe, I will probably check with my honda dealer. Not sure if the 6 yrs rust proof warranty covers the exhaust pipe though.

I find that it's hard to close the driver's door of the 07 models without using the strength that can break bones of a chicken. or something along those lines.

I think you should hurry back to the dealer you bought your Jazz and Complain about it asap.

Open another door and then close the drivers door. Amazingly you will find it not hard to close the drivers door anymore but then it will be hard to close the last door that is open. You've discovered air movement.
As for the picture of the exposed seam. Thats normal finish on any car unless its got something to cover it up like a side skirt. As for the rust on the exhaust I've also got that in the same place on my '04 Jazz since new. It hasn't changed over the years or got any worse since new, doesn't have any effect on anything except maybe cosmetic.

urh..
then could you please explain to me why with the front passenger's door, even as the last door to be closed, it still requires less effort than the driver's door?

the dealer said it was normal.... that it needed to be "run in" for a while. I smelt baloney, but my girlfriend wasn't too bothered about it for now.
I'll check it out again after a while *tomorrow. she got the car on friday* and if it still continues, I'll get her to bring it down to the dealer. coz the dealer does know about the situation anyway.

I think that is a generalization, I got an 07 gli, everything works fine, got no problems (wether door or poor finishing). Just because it comes from Japan it doesn't mean that there will be no lemons. Even high-end cars coming from Japan or Europe got their own problems.
Bottom line is you have to check the car first and point it out to your dealer before you actually drive-away.

I have problems with the doors too. The door on the other side of the driver couldn't close with the same strength as the other doors.
As for the rust...a representative from Honda office called today and said they will look into the matter. Will keep you guys updated on this issue.

by "that", you are referring to the door closing issue, the rusting issue, the "finishing" issue, or all three? :P

If it is the vti, then the exhaust is full stainless. Rust wont be a problem. The discolouration around the rear muffler weld is normal.

Just brought in my Jazz for servicing and yes, I was reassured the discolouration around the weld is normal. So everything is good. Thanks for all the advise guys! Next up - Bodykit change!
