Hey guys was gonna install my new Phillips halogens when I realised that the wires to my headlights were all black & melted. When I tried to yank on it a bit the wires just came out & now my right headlight isn't working. Any ideas where I can get this fixed & how much it'll cost. I'm in Melb...

any auto electrician will be able to do it.

only auto electrician i know is DDM in seaford, they're quite good.
but look in the yellow pages and there should be heaps.

did you have higher wattage globes in before? that could be why your wires melted

get a new NARVA H4 plug from Autobarn.. their like $8.95.. just ask the dude...

their actually Hi-Temp... better than going to wreckers to cut one off...

You prob been running 90w-110w globes which have higher temp.

Just replace the wires & connector

I'm not actually too sure what wattage these bulbs are because they came with the car. But could my audio amp have anything to do with this you reckon?

So is this something I can replace myself or do I have to go to an auto electrician?

completely irrelevant to amp wiring.

as stated you probably have a high wattage bulb.. should be like 55w/60w.

better yet answer this:
- are the bulbs your replacing yellowish or whitish?

Yeah because a post said something about direct short so I was maybe thinking about my amp wiring. If this helps anything, when i replaced my indicator with an LED one, one side always doesn't work after a bit of driving

The bulbs that I'm replacing are yellowish. I was wanting to change it to the Philips one.

i had higher wattage globes
luckily it didnt burn out the wires
but the h4 connectors itself. the highbeam output socket it burnt itself but low beam terminals r ok.

jus a question is it hard to replace a h4 connector? DIY?

Yeah and I was wondering if I changed to HID's, would that solve everything? Or do you still have to use the factory H4 connectors?

Yeah so is taking it to an auto electrician my only option or can I put a HID kit in & that would solve everything?

do you want an HID kit ($400+ inc. install if you aint doing it yourself) or pay $9 for a 3 wire plug that you cut and re-solder yourself to put your $80 Phillips bulbs in?

***EDIT***
cutting wires and re-soldering is the 10min option

HOWEVER
it's a bit hard to replace the plug without replacing the whole thing... the way the plugs are assembled, once the pins are pushed in their locked into place.

you would have to:
- somehow get rid of the plug so the pins/wire are left
- remove the pins/wiring from the repalcement unit.. somehow.. duno.. push them forwards
- insert yours in...
^^If that don't make sense don't bother.. just cut the wires....
