Hey i dunno if anyones got this problem before but i've seen it on the u.s Forums. When i drive my car for say 20minutes or so and its heated up, i pop into the petrol station then i fill it up, or say i stop at a shop and turn off the engine, when i come back and turn the engine on, the engine starts for 2 seconds then stalls. So i crank and crank but it wont spark. So i wait for 30 seconds then it'll start. Usually happens when the engines hot, but when its cold it starts all good. I looked at these symptoms and found it could be the MAIN RELAY thats causing it.

Has anyone ever fixed their main relay at Honda, if so how much? Cause im broke as and i wanna fix this before it gets worse.

Thanks if anyone can help

fixing the main relay is a peice of cake. all you need is some soldering skills. getting the relay out on some cars is tricky.

if you get it out open her up and fix the dry solder joints. the above link says it all.

your symptons also are consistant with a bad Ignighter, try the main relay 1st as it wont cost you anything..

Im from Australia, Sydney...
Okay so besides soldering, is the main relay just plug and play? Just take the old one out, buy a new one and clip it in? Cause im not sure on how to solder?
Thanks for that link though

ok carefull when you buy a new one as there are two types, they look identical but the connectors dont fit. I think they changed around 1990,

I can't recall exatly, i was getting my A/C re-gassed too. I don't think he charged me at all, but he had just converted the engine recently.

mate, dizzies arent that cheap. Your best option is to solder up your main relay (which is free) and see if it helps.

I got mine desoldered/resoldered at my local auto-electricians. The car has never looked back since. It's a simple job to pull it and expose the board, but unless you are good with a solder gun then leave it to the experts. Total cost for me was 30 bucks.

Hey guyz, where can i find the relay on the 92 eg hatch civics...? Near the fuse box...?

ECU-MAN
26-07-2004, 12:51 PM
under the dash behind the fuesbox, just cycle the ignition and listen for the click on then click off after 5 sec or so, that clicking box is the main relay primming the fuel pump

tinkerbell

or not clicking... as the case may be...

yeah good point.
the main relay has two relays in it. 1 for the fuel pump and another for the Injector circuit., you got to be pretty unlucky to have both relays coil pads with dry joints. the problem with the main relay is it sounds like its working but it isnt. least they can be fixed at minimal or no cost.

yup it's happened to me, i believe its a common fault.

Anyway its fairly easy to do, just follow the directions on the site.

I have fairly basic soldering skills, but i still managed to fix mine.
