Hey ive had my DC2R for about 1 week now....now i no that VTEC uses alot of oil, but as ive stated ive had the car for a week used VTEC a fair amount...and i checked the oil 2nite and its below the low indicator....is this normal? or is my engine burning the oil at an abnormal rate? ive checked for blue smoke and i coudlnt see any but somebody told me they thought they had seen a blue puff or two...helpppppp....im taking to the honda service center 2morrow anway just to be sure....but i need some reassurance so i can sleep 2nite

When you first got the DC2R, what was the oil level?

well....i didnt check...haha but to pass road worthy it would have at least had to have been midway between the low and high mark....otherwise it as deemed as unsatisfactory for safe operation

i bought from a dealer.....and it had a service as well. so the oil was changed...i have should have checked none the less though

Did you check the oil level straight after you drove it?

If you did, you need to let it stand for say 10 mins to let the oil drain back down to the sump before you check the oil level.

Top it up back to MAX, drive for 1 week and then check again and let us know how much it dropped.

^ what he said...

but 2 be honest... i tracked my dc2r and was revving the living **** out of it, and it didn't seem 2 drop at all that much from the full mark (maybe burnt 0.2L MAX) LOL! i was pretty surprised.. and im talking about changing gears 9k all day lol and keeping it up in high revs when down changing so i wouldn't have to brake as much!!

seems like ur burning oil 2 me, get them 2 have a look at it 4 u!

goodluck!

lol... if u where constantly driving it on cam then yer maybe but ***n oath i doubt in a week of driving u could use so much oil! unless they where putting in shit oil, but its a honda dealership so i doubt that is the case!

defenetly get it checked out.

at least it wasn't your rings. if it was then you'd kiss goodbye to vtec for quite a while.

You should let the temperature needle hit the middle before giving it any full throttle. Otherwise, you'll have excessive oil consumption from blowby a year or two down the road.

turns out that its fine.....its just they reckon im not giving the car long enuf to warm up....they reckon at least 5 mins for vtec.....

I don't know if that's true... because VTEC wouldn't even 'work' until your car is warm anyway... when you VTEC it on your first drive in that day, do you actually feel the VTEC surge?

lukeaye

thats wat im saying i have to give it 5 mins b4 VTEC will work...before the oil is hot enough and the pressure builds.....going hard like up to 9000rpm when VTEC isnt on is bad for the engine

VTEC will still engage even with the needle only at 1/4. That is still not warm enough and can cause wear to your engine. Wait til the needle hits 1/2 and then wait the same amount of time again. So that's twice the amount of time it takes for the needle to hit 1/2.

anyway my point is... that's not the cause of u burning oil... that's bs!
