Hi Guys,

New to this forum. A friend of mine recommended i post my problem here as alot of guys know there stuff and can help.

I bought a type S (06) out of the showroom and had an accident 4 months ago. Pic attached.

Nothing mechanically was affected but the alignment was so way out, i was driving straight with the steering wheel turned about about a quarter of a turn.

Insurance company replaced my RIM and put one new tyre on. The car was aligned and sway bar needed to be tightened, and body was repaired.

Since then I am not getting my usual 460km tank range B4 the fuel light comes on. I get about 380km when the light comes on. If i run it to 410km i have to put in 47lt of fuel, compared to usually 41-43 lt at 460km.
Use 98 RON all the time at different petrol stations.

Does anyone have any ideas on this??

Gonna get the alignment checked out next week again.
Also the front uneven wheels, one new one and one 25000kms, swapped to the back.

I have noticed the steering wheel is a very little to the right, however it is a bit harder to turn it to the left than to the right. Feel like there is more play on the right turn than left.

Honda reprogrammed the ECU and checked it all and said it was spot on but still no fuel improvement.

Anyway some hlep on this would be great.

All the Best

Sorry to hear about your accident mate. Perhaps go back to your insurance and demand them to re-investigate, stating you are not 100% satisfied with the results.

Don't they have a repair satisfaction garuntee?

Anyways good luck!

I have and they have said to get the alignment checked and do the wheel swap and take it from there.

They have said its a hard situation as all the damage has been fixed..

The shunt/impact of the hit could have knocked something out of it’s fixed place.
Air box/inside filter, fuel filter, pin hole in fuel line or even one of the wiring looms not connected properly.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks man,

Honda hooked up the ecu and ran diagnositics for 3 hours and found ait fuel ratio, timing etc was spot on..

I cant understand this!

I'll let you all know how i go with another alignment.

Does anyone think having 1 new tyre and 1 old tyre (25,000 kms) affect fuel economy?
remember type S run the re050 which go quick!

I'm not too sure about what caused your increased fuel consumption, but the non linear steering feel can be explained.

After looking at ur pics, it is highly possible that the impact to your rim also damaged some of the suspension arms. The lower control arm usually take most of the force. Other things such as "tie rods" and "steering rack" might also be damaged or weakened.

although the suspension arms and steering parts might not be visibly bent, they will affect your suspension geometry. Test your car turning into left and right corners and compare. Assuming that your damage was to ur right front suspension, ur car's handling could be non linear in left corners when compared with right (tho both left and right turns and general handling would be worse than normal if something was wrong). Feel the car and note any non linear characteristic. e.g. when the car loses grip, it loses it suddenly, not progressively. worse and inconsistent steering feel, lower cornering limit etc.

sometimes a slightly bent / weaken susp arm (which still affect ur handling greatly) can be concealed by a wheel alignment and it's very hard to tell / prove if it's bent or not. You will have to work very hard to get the insurance to fix it for you.

My suggestion is for you to work out the impact's possible effect and replace all the parts that could have been damaged / weakened. From the picture, I would guess the rim (which was already replaced), lower control arm, wheel bearing, wheel hub, steering tie rod, possibly steering rack etc.

Thanks for that - alot of playing around from my end to fix something an uninsured person did and not my fault. I reckon it will be small and bang shes fine.

I have attached more pics for people to check out.

I should get pedders to do a test also.
I'll also take it to trutrak suspension as they know there stuff very well.
and i'll see if honda can do a check for me on teh suspension also.

could the cv joint/boot be stuffed in some way that its adding extra effort to the car?

No way would i mod this car if i have a fuel issue - imagine that i'll get 200kms for a tanks the this is going.

CV joints and flexible and strong, and if it has been damaged, you should be able to hear it too...but get it checked again too, just to be safe.

Get the suspension specialist to test drive the car and let them know how the handling was like when you were driving.

let me know how it goes/.

Good luck.
