Hey guys first post so go easy if anything isn't right on the head.
I'm looking to buy an ek civic and change the sohc engine straight away. After reading many american honda forum posts (i only found out about this forum today!) and watching a couple of best motoring dvd's i want to invest in a b16b head with a b20b block (crv ?) or just get a b16b.
Question, will the b20b block make the civic to front heavy and wreck the nimble chassis dynamics? or will a good set of coilovers fix that issue?
Secondly where in aus can i get a b16b? I have called two engine distributors and they said .."....honda nah haven't got any" and "...b16b nah mate never had any" respectively. I asked both of the reps i spoke to if there was anyway i could have them source one for me and they both said nah the US gets priority. One suggested that i try to find a local wrecker that is wrecking either an eg crx or ek type-r.
Can anyone help me find one? I want to do an all motor monster for drivability and reliability.

oh, and great forums guys!

weight isnt that big an issue for the b20crvtec. the b16b that ur asking about is the deisngation of the civic Type R that is a destroked b18c with higher compression.
problem for u is that u will need more than just the engine for the swap. btw, the common b20 combo is teh b16A not b16B with teh b20b bottom end.

I doubt very much that you will be able to source a B16B due to its rarity. Unlike myself, a few ppl on this forum have done this conversion and say it is worth it - hell I'd do it if I had the $$$. But having said that, it is a long wait to find both a B16A2 and B20 - I'm assuming you want a B16A2 (from EK VTi-R) and not B16A? Just keep plugging away through this forum, I suggest you start a thread n the wanted to buy section - you may get lucky; quite a few guys in here can source any Honda item or ring every wrecker you can find.

How much $$$ would it cost for this guy to import? Is it worth it? Is it even legal?

think you should get a b16a head and do some work on it. would be more worthwhile then paying for a b16b head for its "rarity".

or maybe i should just get a b18c and spend the money on it......what has more potential for an all motor monter?

how deep a pocket do you have?
if bottomless, get b18 block, resleeve to 2L. however cost is enormous

For the price of building a crvtec, just buy another civic.....

That way you will have 2 cars, each with about 80kw which means you will have about 160kw available...

You have to be friggen serious (and have deep pockets) if you're going to build a crvtec right...

urtwhistle - the engine everyone is talking about is out of a CRV thats why people call it CRVTEC there is a big difference about the B20A and B20B ;)
