Hey guys ... just wondering if any of you are up on the negotiability of new car prices. I am thinking of getting a new Honda Jazz. RRP is $20590 (for the Vti-S model - Manual) and adding dealer delivery etc brings it up to over $23000.
So .. I am wondering how much room for movement the car dealers have on the price, and where to start our offers. I'll effectively be paying cash (sort of) for it, with no trade.
cheers :)

There's flexibility in all new cars, but don't expect to save thousands on a new Jazz. The best way to look at it is if you can't afford the list price look at something else. You have to factor in insurance costs also. I've seen plenty of people stretch for the car and then not have the money for insurance.
I can't speak for Honda here, but at Volkswagen we talk hundreds, not thousands on Polo. Honda are in a very similar position in the marketplace so I wouldn't be surprised if their margins were very similar.

find out what options you want and ask them to throw them in, only after you negotiate the price, ie say you will take it today for XX,XXX dollars if you chuck in floormats and some trim bits etc...

If the RRP is $20590, then I aim for $20590 driveaway. Of course, it will depend on the demand of the car.

Hardly that simple.
You've given him a 101 on making an offer but he wanted to get an idea on usual selling price for the Jazz.
Bear in mind also that alot of people lie about the price they bought a car for to appear to be better negotiators. Th biggest liar in a car dealership is more often than not, the customer. I've seen some crazy claims about what other dealers are offering come negotiaition time.
Ultimately, be happy with what you're getting. Never think that you could get it cheaper later. Run with the guy you trust and like the most. More often than not your gut instinct is a great judge of character.
If you're happy with what they offer then it's a good deal in your eyes. Some people set out to screw the dealer as much as possible. I can tell you that the margins are a little less than most would believe.

Cheers m0nty and everyone..
I am a pretty good negotiator normally.. but some dealers (past experience) think that just because you are a woman that you know nothing about cars etc.. so I thought I would get some opinions first..
I think when I go .. it will be at the end of month, that way they may be willing to go that little extra for there EOM figures.. even maybe look at run out promotions.. I am not looking at saving thousands but not quite willing to pay full price for it either..
And I am sure I will be happy with my car when I get it.. I have heard plenty of good things about the Jazz and not too many bad.. seems like a good little car..

Make sure it's not too late where they can't get the car ready in time and it carries into the next month anyway. Look to order something that's in stock and is able to be ready before EOM. That generally means ordering around the 24th-25th of the month.

We're a DNC representative and this is where the site fails us. We get used as a benchmark to go back to another dealer and get charged for the lead. :(

the first time i ask he dealer he give me VTIS (Manual)$21700 with no accessories, but at the end i bought VTI(manual)
i bought my jazz(VTI) last two week ,the original price total cost is 22051, i keep negotiable to them,i think about 2.5 hours but finally i only pay 19500 with fog light and tinited window,i save $2551 on the car, plus (with installation),fog light$466 and tinited window$495,total i save$3512
u need to find it out what you want first and add it together then start to negotiable with them, they always say they can't do that price, but u don't need to worry about it, u need to very sure to telling them i only will pay this price to buy this car, they will go to ask the boss about the price, after they come out they will say ,no we can't do it, just tell him again the price you want to pay.
ofcouse not the car is 22051 and then u say i can pay 17000,this is impossible, normally you can get min. $1500 to $2000discount of the car and get two acessories, try to get a bit expensive item, like fog light or alloy wheel.
if the dearly only give you a thousand dollars off, then u go to get three or four item.
BEFORE u buy the car, go to honda and get the accessories booklet first, then go to the parts service, sit there and use few mins to find it out what u like and then go to ask the accessories price,so u have the concept about the price, go back home think what u want to put in your car and then go to find honda dealer and say i want this and this and....plus the car ,ask him what is the best price they can do and then tell him what is the price you want to pay for.
my car got $2551 off of my car ,plus i have fog light and tinited window,i can't believe i can get this price too, so just try,may be some impossible thing will come out,i hope this can help u

Ask for the drive-away price, for sure they will agree to it specially if its close to EOM (they try to reach their quota). Save you 2T+ then purchase some nice rims from what you saved :P

Wise words Kenzi.
I agree, you do need to know what to ASK for (and be in bounds), not ask "what can you do for me?".
Your just demonstrating you don't know what they can bear.
Of course you do need to have dealer #2 warmed up at the same time.
