hey guys,

as some may know, i snapped my belt :( ill post pics of it later lol

anyway, ive gotten to re aligning the cam and the crank but im stuck as to..

how do i align the cams now that the timing belts come off??

do i put a new timing belt on THEN rotate the crank by hand (and hope it all lines up)???

or can i spin the cam without the timing belt? (im worried that any valves will hit the piston)

my last thought was rotate both simultaneously or something

any help will be appreciated :)

i dont think you should do it yourself if your not sure about any particular thing, timing belt is quite dangerous for your car if you get it wrong

thanks ecu-man. ive read everything you have lol the difference is with the DIYs that the valve timing is according to the crank, where as i have no timing belt to move both and check if the timings correct.

so the problem i had was i cant set BOTH valves and cam to tdc at same time coz i have no timing belt!

but i just ran out side to look again and realised the cam had a nut on it which let me spin it to tdc, and then i spun the crank to tdc.. so im hoping thats the correct method lol (hope isnt a great thing is it?)

i hope that makes sense

yes its a tight working area. probably couldnt make a video showing that much if it was done in the car. however its not to hard to do in the car

I would just pay like 700 bucks to a shop and let them mess with it, changing the timing belt is too risky unless you know what your doing 100%...If your asking on the forum it shows that your not to confident, It just wont be good seeing you stuff something else man....hopefully it all goes well...

how else are DIY'ers meant to learn? questions are asked for an answer, not for criticism as to "why are you doing it when you are asking questions..."

there's always the satisfaction in doing things yourself, and then there's always the learning curve if you screw it up.

i've been meaning to change the timing belt on my car as a DIY but i haven't read up on it enough and i'm not confident enough yet but it will come soon enough.

props for giving it a go mate!

take it from a fellow DIYer... u'll have a few questions to ask, but its not that hard!

i got the crank bolt off FINALLY.. was a great feeling lol

as you sed, u get more satisfaction diong it your self. u save money, and u learn soemthing on the way!

everyone has to learn at one stage.. even ur mechanic taht u over pay lol

i got the timing belt on... took me ages to get it to line up!!

as stated in the other thread, i found oil on my 2nd cylinders spark plug threads...

im HOPING its just a seal or soemthing... but i think something may be cracked in the head and leaking oil into the 2nd cylinder :(

anyone have an idea??

cheers

If the oil in only on top of the sparkplug is probably just the sparkplug seal in the rockercover.

your engine runs like shit

if your engine is not free runing you bend valves

you must also set the ignition timing after doing the timing belt.
