View Full Version : Will my JDM B16a EF9 SIR 1/2 cut import have speed limiter?

I am about to do the B16a conversion into my 89 CRX.
Just noticed the speedo in the EF half cut only shows 180kph max.
Does this mean the CPU will cut the engine at 180?
If so, how do you defeat the speed cut?

The [acronym:37802641e0="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:37802641e0] , if you are using the [acronym:37802641e0="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:37802641e0] ecu will be limited to 180 km/h .
To defeat the [acronym:37802641e0="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:37802641e0] limited speed- you will need a aftermarket piggy-back or full [acronym:37802641e0="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:37802641e0] .
Im sure the actual transmission is geared to alittle more than that....but basically - why do you even want to think of going faster ?
Isnt it "[acronym:37802641e0="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:37802641e0]" to have a 180km/h speedo ?

or you can use the jdm ecu with a speed cut defender

no need to shell out for piggyback

use pivot speed reader or sumthing like that

that'll cut it out too

my mate uses on his 180sx

If you have ever been down Eastern creek straight you would probably not need to know why I ask that question.

Just buy any version of the Apexi RSM... it will unlock the limiter, no piggyback [acronym:f3f234cedd="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:f3f234cedd] needed.

not everyone can hit 180km/h down da quarter.....so y do u need to speed cut it?

how about the Circuit.. I know a lot of cars that crack 200km/h........

Either way, a seed cut defender is the cheapest option normally

i said quarter, as in drag (400m) quarter mile...
besides, is it so bad to drive wif a spd limiter, don't hear ppl complain about the euro car's 250km/h limiter
maybe actually cut it when u know u can go faster den it...

i have a speed limiter now that i put [acronym:cb8f8bf91a="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:cb8f8bf91a] h22a in my accord, it does annoy me.

I understand that its possible to over ride this but actually how do i go about doing thins?

yes it will have a speed limiter, and like i told you i can chip your [acronym:781684fe80="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:781684fe80] to remove the limiter if your really think it is necessary...

this goes for most ecus, but is easiest on the OBD0 ones...

yer, like i said, i know what has to be done but where do i get this done? can i do it my self? or do i take it to some place for them to chip it? Any recommendations?

my ecu is p13 obd1

h22a accord, i can get chips and re-chip for H22A...

you in sydney?

send me a PM if you are interested and we can discuss your needs/set-up...

hmm is [acronym:c9676af88e="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:c9676af88e] B16A2 limited to 180 also ??

in ALL cases a [acronym:0d27027961="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:0d27027961] ecu will be limited to 180km/h...

i can chip these too ;)

hrmm once you 'unlock' the speed li iter, does the [acronym:682507ac9c="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:682507ac9c] have fuel Maps to suit the unlocked region of RPMS/Gear ??

hrmm once you 'unlock' the speed li iter, does the [acronym:d692e3148f="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:d692e3148f] have fuel Maps to suit the unlocked region of RPMS/Gear ??

hrmm, the ecu does NOT decide fuel maps based on road speed, only based on RPM and manifold pressure...

so 'unlocking' the speed limiter is no problem...

hrmm once you 'unlock' the speed limiter, does the [acronym:5fd6f2c64d="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:5fd6f2c64d] have fuel Map and ignition timing (etc) to suit the unlocked region of RPMS/Gear ??

how much $$ to 'chip' the [acronym:5fd6f2c64d="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:5fd6f2c64d] ? do you have a chip-burner or do you just have the facility to solder in a saddle ?

Mine sure as hell won't break 180 either. No genuine SiR that is unchipped/undefended will unless it is the stripped down "buy a race-car off the showroom floor" varient. Basically an interior-gutted EF8/9 or EG6 (not certain on the EK4 SiR as it was really 2nd place to the CTR as a prominant Civic track car) with no luxuries.

BTW - original poster - sell me your leftover EF9 parts :)
