[[d a n n y]]
18-07-2004, 10:35 PM
while i was on the M4 going to silverwater..
a white 180sx was tailgating me along..
we both got out at the exit..and he was driving beside me..
as i was going along...the passenger in the 180 start pointed at laughed at me

so..i came along next to him...and gave it a free rev....
we both shifted into second..
and boom we were off..
and it was pretty much over..

in the end result
1.5-2 car lenghts untill 4th with passenger in both cars..
after the lil squirt he asked my
"is that a Spoon engine?"
lol thats another 180 kill to my list :D

he gets a better start then me all the time, (traction issues), and also he gets wheelspin on 2nd..
But even though he beats me all the time, its only by about half a car, but on one of the gears, my car actually starts gaining on him =D
oh well..

I can't quite believe it either. I've been in a few auto CA18/SR20DETs (had a mate who really wanted one last year), and they're pretty damn fast. Your stock VTi beat a decent condition turbo CA18 with an exhaust? LOL... I suggest you try again, or find one to race which is in decent nick. Just my opinion.

Hey dude I wouldn't be throwing the CA18DET and SR20DET intogether... they're both [acronym:1617a5a805="Double Overhead Cam"]DOHC[/acronym:1617a5a805] and both 4cyl... thats about all they share. SR20DET's are a ****ing workhorse and a half. CA18DET POS has 136kwt... and very little potential.
SR20DET has 164kwts and a hell of a lot of potential for a 4cyl. Not to mention the SR20DET Black top which has 185kwts. Danny If you buy a NEEESSSAAANNN with a CA18DET I will personally drive up to sydney and kick your arse, they're a total POS. Possibly one of the worst engines I've ever driven with! SR20DET on the other hand.... hhhmmmmmm off boost they eat a fat dick, but once you've got some nice pressure... oooowwwww I better stop thinking about it otherwise I'll want to convert again.

SR16DE NEO makes more power than it equivelent the B16a, it makes more than the B16B too... and more than the B18c. It also makes the power lower in the revs and produces more torque. No idea how reliable it is, but hell If it droped strait into a civic I'd throw my engine away.

But still in the end Honda wins... lol love the NSX Type S Vs R33 GTR.

i think its a SR16VE , and yes they are pretty powerful, but they are like the b16b's, rarity wise.

Last figure is compression ratio:
SR20DE 140.0 hp @ 6400 rpm 132.0 ft-lb @ 4800 rpm - 10.0
SR18DE 138.1 hp @ 6400 rpm 123.0 ft-lb @ 4800 rpm - 10.0
SR20VE 187.4 hp @ 7000 rpm 144.6 ft-lb @ 6000 rpm - 11.0
SR16VVL 172.6 hp @ 7800 rpm 119.3 ft-lb @ 7200 rpm - 11.0
SR16VVL (N1) 197.3 hp @ 7800 rpm 133.8 ft-lb @ 7600 rpm - 11.6

compared:
B16A 170ps @ 7800rpm 16.0kgm @ 7300rpm - 10.4
B16B 185ps @ 8200rpm 16.3kgm @ 7500rpm -10.8
B18C Spec R 200ps @ 8000rpm 18.5kgm @ 7500rpm - 11.1

edit: As u can see, although nissan tried, they couldnt surpass the engineering of the honda.

The ca18det is prob the baby of the nissan range when it comes to power but can be heavuly modified to run 300rwkw easily but in stiock form they lucky to get 130kw@the fly. They are more tuff than an sr20 anyday as they have rb components in them. The sr20 rocker arms are SHITE.

Ive run a quite a few honda guys on road and on the track, around corners there is not way a nissan RWD can compare to a honda. Its the usually on the str8 that most hondas lose out.

I like you, unlike other nissan owners you willing to say that honda's arn't bad cars. The SR was never designed to technically supersede the CA in any way other that cost. As with natural evolution and development the SR became more powerful. The majority of the goodies in the SR20DET were also in the CA18DET too. Piston oil squirters and crank stud girdles for e.g.

CA18DET - This is wh i think they are tuff.

The CA18 is considered by many(and myself) to be the best engine ever manufactured by Nissan. The engine is smooth, reliable and compact which makes it an ideal engine that can be used in many different cars.
Many of the solutions/technology used in the CA18 youīll find in many of Nissanīs newer engines as the SR20. Beeing such a durable engine makes the CA18 a perfect engine to work on if you would like use a larger turbocharger or/and higher boostpressure. Allso the transmission is very durable and can stand massive poweroutputs.

SR20DET vs. CA18DET - A Comparison.

It is very hard to say which one of these two engines that is the best, perhaps impossible. But you can allways make make a comparison to see what they have in common and what differs. The SR20 was never an attempt by Nissan to develope a completely new engine after the CA18 allthough it was to replace the old ca18. However, it is worth so point out that the SR20 not either came close to cost what the CA18 did to develope. The CA18 was built from top to toe with new technical ideas that had not been used in any of Nissanīs earlier engines. For the SR20 they "borrowed" all the successfull solutions from the CA18 and then added the knowledge the had earned through the years since the developement of the CA18.

BASICALLY the CA18DET stopped production and the sr20 is more popular was due to the $$ that nissan will make at cheaper prices.

For the SR20 they "borrowed" all the successfull solutions from the CA18 and then added the knowledge the had earned through the years since the developement of the CA18. At the end of the day, today's SR's are still tried and tested and you will find any SR you pick up nowadays will be more reliable than an outdated CA. It's like saying the B18C series engines are based on the B18B engines, of course the B18C's "borrowed" ideas from the B18B's and then "added knowledge the had earned through the years" to produce a 1.8 N/A capable of 147kw at the fly!

Everyday, you see people convert their S13s and 180s into SR20DETs. How often do you see some guy, with their blown up CA put another CA into their car? For me, I'd certainly go an SR over CA regardless, wouldn't you?

I guess the best thing about the SR is that it is almost still in production (although getting very old by other examples) and is well supported by the aftermarket industry. This makes it an excellent choice if you are going to be rebuilding the engine for a specific purpose or inflicting a lot of bolt-ons to it.
What exactly makes the CA more 'tuff' anyway?

Ceffo
19-08-2004, 09:41 AM
XXpl0Sive..

Im not really debating that the ca18det is much better than the sr20. Just they are tuff and underatted compared to the sr20.

I would say most people (and myself included) would go an sr20 due to the fact that there are more aftermarket bolton parts and aftermarket supprt for then than a ca18det as its more recent.

The reason ca18's are more tough than sr20 is the fact in standard stock form they can rev much much higher than an sr20 without loss of power. From memory the sr20's rev to about ~7000revs and power cuts out. The ca18 can rev much higher ~8000 without any loss.

Highly modified ca18det block can rev to about 11000 revs on redline with just a few cam, piston, rod changes(internals).

What exactly makes the CA more 'tuff' anyway?

The CA uses a cast iron block which is heavier and stronger than the SR20 block. The engine being heavier, power to weight is affected hence nissan went with the cost effective way of making a lighter block.

what IS it with nissan drivers ?

I had a white 180SX with 17" chromies roll up next to me when I was just driving home along Mounts Bay Road and the I look over to see he has turned-on his RED NEONS and is trying to get me to go.. I couldnt be bothered, but then he stayed there and was revving.. so I gave him a rev dropped it to second and we took off.. I pulled on him.. then after I backed off.. he goes flying past.. pfftt.. then there was a red light so he pulls up next to me and puts his NEONS on again.. LMFAO at this stage.. so I launched on the green and smoked him by 2 lengths through 3rd then backed off..

He THEN turned his Neons OFF BWAHAHAHAHAAH

That said, if i were to go vtec, it would have to be a jdm type R, s2k, or nsx, nothing less. respect for both sides though (only gripe i have about vtec is you have to rev the nuts outta it to get anywhere. id hate to be on a hill)

hmm i belive you're making a bad generalisation here. I think you'll find that a lot of nissan drivers do have a respect for honda engineering. As i've seen on nissansilvia.com.

Also i don't believe nissans are slow on twisties.

Agreed! I think it comes down to either:
N/A = Honda
Forced = Nissan/Toyota

Don't you guys think a car is only as fast as its driver ability...?

And both are different designs.. FWD vs RWD

Both engines are designed for different things.. But i believe Honda will win
at the end of the day for it design, construction and efficentness (sp?) This
coming for a nissan person..

Nissans are too heavy dammit!

SR's are unbreakable
If you take care of them.. i think you ment durable?

What exactly makes the CA more 'tuff' anyway?
Don't know how this turned to a SR20 vs CA thread.. hahha

]']lol bak off every1 this is my thread..lol OH ceffo BTW IT SR20
He's thinking about his engine again.. He's runnin an RB20 in his car.

what IS it with nissan drivers ?
D-series: 1
180SX: 0
cant wait for the new motor.. will have to go hunting GTS-T's hahahaa

Nice work.. congrats... What engine u getting?

lol, says the man who thinks t28s are ball bearing from s15s
QUOTE]

Confused.. i thought they were.. how the hell do they run 18psi without
breaking like the skyline turbos? oh wellz. hahhaa..

[QUOTE=jko2]whats going on here???
Id say pretty much everyone on nissansilvia.com respect hondas if not love them! and yeah they are a better car... but for the performance dollar you can't go past a nissan, most of the cars on ns.com would probably smoke most of the cars here. That said, if i were to go vtec, it would have to be a jdm type R, s2k, or nsx, nothing less. respect for both sides though (only gripe i have about vtec is you have to rev the nuts outta it to get anywhere. id hate to be on a hill)

I agree.. but whats ns.com? sorry me newbie.. But isn't revvin the nuts
of the engine the fun part and thats what makes Honda's so fun to drive?
Cause thats what got me hooked..

stock SR20DET's produce more torque than RB25DET.

Are we comparing same year models?
SR20.. hmm 1994 = black top? I Googled and found these two sites:

http://www.srownersclub.com/faq/faq_s13_black.asp
Torque: 203 ft/lbs at 4000rpm

VS

http://www.skylinegts.co.uk/R33_spec.htm
Torque: 213 @ 4800 rpm

Thats what i thought?

But anyhow... this is not a nissan forum...
Just wanted to say congrats to Danny for the kill.. and not all nissan
people are bad.. Well from what i've seen..

*disclaimer* - I don't mean to have offended anyone but if i did I'm sorry,
Feel free to PM me if there are any issues and i'll adjust my post accordingly.

Im not gonna argue with you anymore.

It is not a personal attack because I don't know who you are. I 'attack' you because you have weak and ridiculous arguments.

End of the day, you're a dum****. Game over.

PLEASE GOD. MAKE IT STOP.

I'm confident in what lies in my engine bay, why would I want to bet you? The question is, if YOU are that confident that no 200sx's had ballbearing turbo's whatsoever, I invite you to come on a 'nissan forum' and post your claims. You're not going to do it are you? Didn't think so.

And please stop with the unecessary slanderism. It isn't making you appear to be any more intelligent than you already are.

no cos i dont like to help idiots. Ill let them pay as much as they want for a ball bearing turbo.

point is, the turbo isnt ball bearing. but im glad u think it is, calling sum1 a dum**** is not good cos its obvious u never opened up one of these, but im cool. I believe what u say, its like the stock s13s running high 13s stock. and the stock skylines runing low to mid 13's. I really do believe u. m0r0n

gen·er·al·ise
a. To infer from many particulars.
b. To draw inferences or a general conclusion from.
c. To make generally or universally applicable.
You do not wish to accept this simple fact:
That you have opened up and checked your turbo. That I have opened up my turbo. That you found a non-BB turbo. That I found a BB turbo. Since you generalise, you say that ALL 200sx's do not have BB turbos.

...And what do purple stock Skylines and orange stock S13's going down the QTR mile on Thursday have anything to do with the price of fish in China?

Had it checked via the CHRA with Garret.

Your inability to hold an argument without resorting to childish remarks is astounding.
So I think, it is safe to conclude that:
