Hey guys, I'm wanting to turbo my EG5. I've been doing some reading but still don't think I have a great knowledge. So I'm after an expert who can help me out (source me the right turbo parts and install it for me) then I'll just take it somewhere to tune it. Of course I'll pay the right person for their services. If anyone from MELB is interested, gimme a PM.
its alot easier then you think man, just put the time out to do the research and do things right the first time and save yourself money. i just finished mine and its pretty much well worth it.
agree with nerv plenty of info out there... try turbod16 could help u out. i finished mine recently to, getting boosted to 10psi this weekend :D very fun and doesnt leave a huge whole in ur pocket.
if u have specific questions post them up and we can try and help
Also agree with the above. Youll get alot more satisfaction by spending a month or 2 doing the necissary research to put a great kit together yourself. Itll be a great help knowing whats going on if somthing goes wrong and you need to do some trouble shooting.
Start with this supurb book! Open it, save it, read it!

A quick rundown of what parts your going to need for a reliable system.
Neccisary parts
Vented catch can (research turbo d16 pcv system)
Intercooler piping and silicon couplers (2.25-2.5" piping, any intercooler)
Turbo manifold (ebay cast manifolds are cheap and have good durability)
Turbo w/wastegate (choose turbo size for intended power goals, 200-240whp possible on stock block with good tune)
Oil lines and oil restrictor (no restrictor in oil lines can cause oil to pass seals in turbo due to excessive pressure)
Fuel injectors (choose correct size, 2 types of injectors high and low impendence, just search)
Fuel pump (walbro 255lph most popular choice)
ECU & tuning (hondata with obd1 ecu very popular and effective solution, dont skimp here you need a good tune)
Reccomended parts
BOV
Aluminium radiator (most likely need slim fan aswell, not 100% necissary, but deffinatly a good investment IMO)
Spark plugs (need colder plugs)
Free flowing exhaust
boost controller
Boost gauge
Youll need a map sensor if you wanna run more than 11psi (not reccomended on stock engine block anyway)
Also oil temp, water temp and oil pressure gauges are a good investment.
Good luck:thumbsup:

Yep this is a very good point.
It's easy to get someone to do all the hard work for you, but its alot harder for you once something goes wrong. Its best to know what goes in and how it goes in. Plus the fun bit imo about modding is the process to get to the end result, the challenge, thats the fun part.

Geez thanks a lot for the help guys. Yeah it's just that I've never been the mechanical type (just learnt how to jack up my car recently) so yeah that's why I don't want to stuff things up. Like if i go to like AVO or something they'll charge me an arm & a leg so that's why I wanted to use some help from someone who's done it so I don't waste $$$. Oh well guess I got a lot of reading to do, but yeah offer still stands if anyone wants to help me out!

I used this as my main guide, and what ever i didn't understand or had troubles with i just searched through honda-tech.com or turbod16.com until i found how to fix the problem, imo bolting on all the turbo parts was easier then doing my rear disc brake conversion lol ... but yeah good luck man

NerV: Thanks for that man, i'll do some reading up and see if i understand anything...
90xsi: Cheers for the contact , I haven't seen pornstar post for a while though, or maybe i'm just in the wrong section. I'll try & get in touch with him.

how much power are you looking for>?
i have worked on a blue civic with a D16.... i made/put together a turbo kit for him. he churned out 135kw @ wheels from memery on 7-8psi. his name is coupedup on the forum i think. It worked well , we did it very cheap too. from memory i think he spent about 5k all up , possibly slighlty more including the clutch upgrade.
Ive also done two turbo transplants in my ITR
Shoot me a p.m if you get stuck.

That's exactly the amount of power i'm after because I want to run stock internals. Where did you mainly source your parts from? Well i'm very interested so if I get stuck I'll definately PM ya

It was bits and peices from my old turbo kit + some from the states through DNA racing works....if i had maybe $1k more to play with i think I could have made it even better.

we used a GT28RS , cooler & cooler pipes from the states , apexi BOV , Apexi power FC ecu (wrx ecu :P) 550cc injectors and a custom dump pipe ( which was pretty squished up cause he kept A/C) he was still onlyu running a 2 1/4 exhaust from memory too! so i believe it would have been a bettter outcome with a 2.5"-3" exhaust

Oh damn i was hoping to spend a bit under $5000, well that my budget anyway... I've been doing some reading and everyone is using Hondata ECU's
imo take your time, ive spent probably under $6000 on my setup and im currently making 141kw on my d16

What do you think of this kit Nerv? It's a Greddy one

Yeah $6K is quite a lot of money, but u get what u pay for i guess
I havent had experience with the greddy kit so i cant really say, i think Weq used one in the past, imo their pretty good for someone who doesnt want the full hassles of buying parts individually.
And yeah 6k does sound alot, but it did take my 8 months to purchase items one at a time so it was a progressive thing, and it also includes a used built block with forged internals.
i have spent around 5000$ with an engine swap to a Y8 (from a Y4), not sure exactly on power figures now... it was tuned on 6psi and made 108.3kwatw, but tommorow its getting retuned to 10psi as i got a boost controller.... ha u'll all be up dated tommorow on that one. mind u on 6 psi it was still a 14 second car...
mods so far on mine:
Engine
D16Y8 Engine - $1000
Hondata S100 - $285
Obd2 to Obd 1 Wire Harness - $150
Dyno Dave Tuned - $880
R32 Turbo (straight off an RB20DET) - $150
D16Y4 Gearbox - already had
Motec 3 Bar Map Sensor - $150
Excedy "Sports Tuff Clutch" - $400
550cc RC Injectors - $610
Hybrid 600x300x76 FMIC - $120
Go Fast Bits BOV - $160
XS Power Wastegate - already had
XS Power Radiator - already had
XS Power Turbo Manifold - already had
Megan Racing 3" "Turbo" Muffler - $120
XForce 3" Highflow Cat - $145
Custom bent 3" Exhuast - $300
Custom 2.5" Downpipe - price included in above
GReddy Profec B Spec 2 Boost Controller -$250
so judging by that ruff guide i have spend $4720, but im sure i have missed some things, also im sure u could get things at better prices or u wouldnt need all of what i have for a basic kit. as i said on 6psi it was still a 14 second car.... only reason im boosting it more is cuase my aims from the start was a thirteen :) hope that helps u out abit...
ps u dont NEED to swap the engine either.... depend on the condition of urs :D
