Anyone using these tyres? Any feedback?
Apparently they are the latest alternative to the OEM DC5R tyre.
Looking forward to your comments.........

These replaced the apparently highly praised S03 and (something else) tyres.

sounds like the general consensus so far is positive.

For me it's either RE001 or S Drives, I have Yokohama ES100 (replaced by S Drives) and love em but wanna try Bridgestone equivalent or thereabouts. Plus the RE001 is about $25-$30 cheaper per tyre, so I'll be taking advantage of the aggressive marketing from Bridgestone.

I've got them installed on my swift (195/55X15)
They are surprisingly grippy, reasonably quiet, just a swooshing sound on the road. When pressed, they allow a good deal of throttle adjustability and instill great confidence in spirited driving.

We've got the s drives on our Dc2r and re001 on my EGSi.

No comparision in terms of grip, was expecting a lot more from Yokohama's latest offering. The S drive is quieter though, and very well made ( on our dc2r with oe 15" enkeis the balance weights were no more than 15g, on one wheel no weight was nec ). But it looks and feel like nothing more than a bridgestone GIII with a harder compound and without the GIII's pattern noise. We were expecting a lot more than this from Yokohama's latest high performance offering.

Hey,
I've got these tyres in 195/50R15's and have no complaints with them. I've taken them to the track too and they held up pretty well.
Having said that they are the first real performance tyres I've purchased so I can't compare to anything else.

These any good in 215/45 17s?

I'm comparing with Michelin Pilot Sports and Pirelli P1s. I can get the Michelins for $180 a corner which seems bloody cheap.

Thats damn cheap for Pilot Sports! Where did you get the quote from?

Last quote I got for 215/45/17 for the RE001s was about $230-240/tyre.

Micheline Pilot Sports is usually in the high 300ish - 400ish mark (for17") and now you are getting them for 180. There is cheap and then there is suspciously too cheap. I feel the latter.

In the latest VTEC Club 5 they compare the RE001 to the RE070 on stock FD2s. The FD2s with RE070 were consistently 1 second faster then when they had the RE001 on.

But admittedly it is $340 a corner for RE070 compared to $240 a corner for the RE001.

They did not use RE001, they were RE01R which are not sold here in OZ.

RE01R is one of the max performance street tyre similar to Advan AD07.

They are totally different from the RE001, they ahve different patterns too.

Your're right it was the RE01R not the RE001 they tested. :o

But there you go, you have another superior option for another 100 bux a corner more. ;)

Where did you get that quote from for 215/45/17 $230-240??? My lowest quote in this size is $245. Im also looking to get a set in the same size, maybe if we buy together we can save some money....PM if you are interested

They can be had for that money but only if you're in the trade or know someone. I just got a wholesale quote back for RE001s in 215/45/17s for $220each. You just need to know the right people. Working for a large group has it's perks. Throughout the group we have huge buying power. One of our service departments upsold tyres on 70 cars last week.

I decided to go for the Micehlin Pilot Sports though on info from others. Right decision? Or does it even matter when talking these types of tyres? They're all pretty damn good.

You can't put IMO and objective on the same topic. :) Opinions are always subjective. :)

If you did objective comparisons by having both on your car before and found that the RE001s were better, then you don't have to say IMO. You TESTED and KNOW that the RE001s are better. Hehe.

No, these are RE001. The STI and JDM CTR gets RE070. You must be confusing it with RE01R, which are a different tyre.

One thing I'm surprised with is that the RE001 can match and beat the AD07 while being cheaper by over 30%.

^ I have been using re001 for a while both as daily tires and as track tires ranging from circuit, sprints, hill climbs and motokhanas.

In my opinion, they are a great tire to learn anything track related with as any loss of traction is very progressive and easy to control. Tread life is quite good and they are very very quiet.

Being a road tire, you dont have to worry about warming them up as with semis.

Having said that....

Recently I have started using the Kumho Ku36 and found that it was MILES ahead of what the re001s had to offer. Although they are much louder and offer not as good wet traction as the re001s, to simply put it, bang for buck is through the roof.

Tires were priced at 127$ each for 215/45/r16.

Going from the re001 to the ku36 at the last Barbagellos event, netted me about .3 secs off my pb consistantly, and this was after a good 3 month break from the event.

Cons for the Ku36 over the re001 however is the tread wear, admittedly having too high a tire pressure resulted in chunking, the wear rate of the ku36 vs the re001 is crazy.

To put it in perspective, almost a year of daily driving, numerous track days etc etc on the re001 still leaves me with approximately 40% tread left, where as one track event has probably killed off a good 2-3mm on the Kumhos.

All in all, Id probably stick with the re001 from now on as a daily and get more aquainted with the kumhos for track related events.

Just my 2 cents :)

They are sooooooo grippy compared to my bridgestone turanza ER300's. (then again it's a different car, so it's hard to tell...)
