the quality really depends on how loud you wanna go, and the quality of your radios FM.
you see, the highest signal to noise ratio i've seen for FM radio head units is around 60db, regardless of how high a signal to noise ratio the rest of your gear supports, any higher than that and it will distort. so theoretically, thats the highest volume you can reach with your audio without distorting your speakers using an FM radio broadcasting unit.
if your head unit has an auxiliary input and has a high signal to noise ratio, then i'd recommend heading down to your local electronics store and buying a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable and just doing that. you'll get much better audio quality, and it'd probably end up being far cheaper if your head unit already has an aux in (front or rear).

I don't really want to go too loud yet, CD quality would be sufficient (nothing less).

I don't think these units use the FM radio as the reciever, they plug into the port for the CD stacker. Anyways, i've ordered one of these and will keep you posted on the install and sound quality :)

according to the description, it hooks into the back of your unit or something, right?
audio quality might be better, but then it depends on your head unit and the exact way of connecting it up. i just use an auxilary cable. only cost me $10 in the end.

A few people have installed the xcarlink, just do a search. I'm thinking of installing it in my 05 Integra luxury as it doesn't have an AUX i/p

I think the civic does have an AUX i/p as an option, so if you're handy you could follow the DIY AUX i/p connector mod posted by samuel337.
