Is anyone able to show me a photo of 35%(darkest legal limit) tint?

Also a guy quoted me 180$ with illegal tints and a receipt. Does anyone know with this receipt is it going to protect me from anything? such as get defected and have to re-tint it?

Also is the 170-180 mark a reasonable price?

Thanks yo!

Recent won't protect you from anything, really. If the RTA tests <35%, then it will fail, and will need to be removed.

Price is good.

Here (http://doctortint.com.au/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=27&catid=1) are some pics of an Accord that apparently has 35% tint.

So what happens if a cop pulls me over and questions me about my tinting. If i show him my receipt saying its 35% he'll either let me off or get it tested?

i'm surprised the eprson offering the service is offering a receipt.

'illegal tints' are only legal if applied before the 1994 rule... obviously meaning your car has to be pre-94...

i got mine done coz i drive a 93 model del sol... no receipt and no way of proving when it was applied as i'm probably the 3rd owner...

btw that rule is nationally as it is an ADR

yeah my cars a 98 thats why i wanna find out as much as i can and decide whether i should do it or not..

The guy said he can get fined for doing it..but if i really want the receipt he can give me one.

A cop can defect you regardless of what you show them. They don't need to measure it, if they think it's defectable you could walk away with a ticket.

What I was saying is that if you have darker than 35% tinting and it gets tested by the RTA/inspection station/whatever, a receipt won't mean anything as it's beyond the guidelines.

you will get defected. pre 1994 your fine (assuming the tint was applied before 1994).. 98 model you will get defected

I've heard of people getting their tints slashed.

170-180 is good. All depends on where you're gettiing it done and if you're getting a metalised tint or ceramic...

Some owners which antennas embedded into the rear windscreen complain about poorer reception when metallic tint is used. I've got metallic and my reception is unchanged, but my mate's s15 was significantly worse in AM.

Stay away from cheap tints unless you like bubbling and your tint changing colour (seen people with purple tint?). Metalic and ceramic tints shouldn't change colour.

This is my Euro with 35% tint. After several defects on other cars I kept this car 100% legal.

I have black seat covers front and rear so it may seem a little darker than normal as well.

I had 5% on old car before as well, when I got pulled over, the police just mention that my tints were really dark. never got fined for it.
everytime after I got pulled over, I'll just put my windows down and let some light into the car.

It is a bit hard to drive in dark streets with no lights, but when your on the main road etc, its not much of a problem. I'll probably be getting 15-20% next time around.

I've had 20% on my old civic before and that was a nice colour....darker than my current 35% on my teg...but not too dark.. we have 5% on our civic and its very hard to see anything out of the rear window at night...so yeah...5% is too dark for visibility reasons....but better once moving...but yeah...in that car I drive with the windows down so i can see better.

I've had my last car for 6yrs with 15% reflective metallic tint...never got busted for it..i just wind down the windows when at RBT's and next to copa's :D

35% is sh1t and not worth the money. Also paying $180 is cheap if they are metallic tint. Can you PM me the guys info..i wanna get rid of my 35% tint and go for something around 20-25%..need to protect the leather seats..lol

Isn't the lower the % the darker it is.?
35% is nothing I have 15% on my teg ATM not that bad during the day its a bit difficult to see on a dark road at nite but if there's light its not too bad.
I got no receipt however and my car is a 91 LS

the percentage means, how much you can see through

So if its %5 dark you can see %5 through the tints.

%5 -%20 will be fine

anything over aint dark enough in my books

Yeah..i also found it abit dangerous to reverse and whenever turning right into a street at night, just watch out for pedestrian crossing the road!! Workaround is to wind down the windows when turning right

if your car is not roadworthy you are asking for trouble. Have a big accident and you run the risk of your insurance company walking away from the claim. And don't say it doesn't happen!

my civic with 10% tint on the side windows 20% on the rear.

the difference looking out the window
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/12/web/2436000-2436999/2436055_102_full.jpg

i got my tint for 200 cash no reciept and that is absolute bargain so 180 is even better. the 10% on the side is perfect i think. at night on road with no lights it is hard to see out of but i just wind the window down but on lit streets it is absolutely fine to see out of. during the day even 5% tint is easily seen out of. i have never even been told or anything by cops anything about my tint during the tons of rbt's etc. the reason behind the 20% on the rear is cops behind you can still see through the car to the car in front and you can see out perfectly fine too so they have no suspicion on the even darker tint on the side windows. 20% isn't even that dark! 35% is a waste of time!!!! 20% rear and 5-15% on the sides.

my civics got 35% and agree with you all it's not dark enough, would love for it to be darker, the darker the better. I'm not concerned about cops giving a canary, however insurance is the issue.

I just wrote off my Astra in a collision that was my fault, never expected it to happen to me and had no issues cos it was street legal, got a nice payout . Insurance covered both vehicles and all was sweet, took the cheque and bought a new civic, however a mate of mine had lost it and hit a pole, had full comprehensive, had to get his car towed to the workshop, insurance guy inspected the vehicle and claimed it was not street legal. insurance rejected the claim cos his car was dumped too low, based on Victorian legislation! luckily it wasn't to serious but if he was in my situation he'd be out of pocket big time.

So I'd agree with the person who mentioned insurance, you should worry about insurance more than cops.

Hahahaha, yeah if your able to make ur car street legal before insurance inspects it then your sweet .

Can you imagine being in the middle of the intersection, involved in an accident, cops all around you, tow truck on the way, and your there trying to peel off the tint, extension cord along the road to some blokes house, hairdryer in the hand, working away on the windows. hahahahha lol.

You can get the trucky to tow it to your choice of repairer, and if you know one, even better, as the next day you can legalise it again. If they tow it to their workshop then you could have issues if any part of your car is identified as to not being street legal.

I guess it depends on what the payout is, if you cause massive injury and trauma, the will go over your car with a magnifying glass as not to payout huge claims, but if you claimed for a minor bingle, they'd probably not give a stuff.

actually it depends on your insurance company... Some insurance companies tow it straight to their motor vehicle assessment center some allow you to tow it home or to a selected repairer.. its just a matter of asking...

the thing i found with my last insurance claim on my s14a is as long as ur uninsured mod didnt affect the accident or been deemed to affect the accident you are still covered. i had a freak accident, my s14a's throttle body locked up (it was still auto, hadnt done conversion yet) but i hadnt said that i had pod, turbo back exhaust, boost controller, bored out turbo, s15 intercooler. but was still covered because the accesor deemed it to be purely a freak mechanical fault where sumhow my butterfly jammed. but i guess i mite of just been really really lucky
