If anyone is looking for 6 inch splits, get yourself the MTX th5602. I purchased these after a good friend of mine who manages a strathfield store said "these are the best splits on the market". He was spot on, run these splits with a Sub off a decent amp and the clarity of the speakers will pierce your ear drums.

Amazing stuff, apparently this brand comes standard in brand new subaru liberties.

no offence but there are much much better splits available (focal beryllium and rainbow reference spring to mind, both many thousands of $$$). also, an affiliation with strathfield would not give ur mate any expertise on what the best car audio products on the market are, nor does the fact they are oem subaru do alot to vouch for your argument. jus be careful making statements liek those if you dont really know what ur on about as it can mislead ppl... or maybe u work for a supplier and made ur account jus to try and flog stuff and ive wasted my time typing all this :p

/end rant

anyway, glad to hear ur happy with em :)

also, i take it u were referring to the THS602 (u mistyped it) which retail for $205?

and since when does OEM usage become a standard of a good splits? if so, all upmarket cars should come with utopia, boston z6 or infinity kappa perfect at the very least... I do agree that it is a good split for the money but so is the jaycar splits which are half the price of the MTX

"these are the best splits on the market"

As Vinnie has already alluded too; you're more than welcome to come down here sometime and listen to the Focal Beryllium splits. Then head over to Precision and listen to the Rainbow Reference splits. Then come back here and tell us all that the MTX are the best splits on the market. :D :D :D

However, for their price I believe the MTX are quite good. :D

lol... strathies has the best splits on the market?.... I've been wasting my money then.... I guess i need to get rid of my gear and head down to strathies... haha

Seriously though, you might consider them to the best on the market as they are the best that you've heard. Pop into FHRX or Precision to listen to the Focal, Morel and Rainbow gear, you'd be suprised at how fantastic they sound.

If those places are a little far then duck into your nearest JB Hifi they should have Pioneer yellow cones (sounds quite good although a bit overpriced), Alpine Type-R's (new range with shallower mounting depth and ring radiator tweeters) as well as JL Audio VR splits. If you're lucky you might find a store with a set of JL Audio ZR splits, absolutely fantastic set of speakers. Personally I rate them very close to the Boston Z6, the tweeter isn't quite as smooth as the Boston's but they're still fantastic.

mtx is ok, i wouldnt say MTX is the best coz they jus came out late 2000, theres still better brand and quality above MTX, like CLARION & PIONNER & that has crisp & clear sound and good for the budget, but if u want the top of the range, go for MB QUARTZ or ALPINE, not jus crisp & clear sound but REAL REAL good sound quality, where u can here every single instruments and effects played on cd or dvd

in general there are still better brands out there than alpine and mb quart... same as there are better products out there for the price of clarion and pioneer...

you guys are like a bunch of women at an afternoon tea event. leave the guy alone, if he thinks they are nice then they are nice to his ears, nothing more and nothing less... i doubt all you audition speakers with real music anyway, most will come in with jigaboo music and pick a set of speakers by they way they sound with that music and not by how natural they sound. and in other cases people pick speakers due to their marketers in the industry, if someone tells you these are good you're going to believe them arent you? use your own ears and get what suits your budget and taste not what someone tells you is good...

Quality for most on this forum comes at a price but rest assured there are a lot less main stream brands that produce sound way better for a little more.

There is also a difference between speakers not just technology but the way they sound eg:

Jap brands tend to sound very strong/good in high notes cause Asian music uses a lot of percussion instruments so their engineers tend favour this type of sound eg. Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse etc.

American brands tends to sound more fuller and harder in the bottom end cause a lot of engineers traditionally favour music with a bit more attitude and bottom end like rock eg. Rockford, Boston, Kicker, JL, Treo.

European brands tend sound more balanced and delicate due classical music favoured by most engineers for speakers developement eg. Dynaudio, Focal, Morel, Hertz, Rainbow.

At the end end of the day we all have different tastes and budgets.

I personally use a lot of Chesky discs to tune my system for quality and staging not doof doof. However these are worth a listen if your serious about sound quality and hearing whats missing or lacking from your set up and moving up.

But it all depends what your after in the end as there still is a place for doof doof.

i run an alpine w202e, but only because i couldnt afford the eclipse double din dvd. alpine except for offcourse there f1 statis is cheap made chinese built crap. You should c how much they cost to make. i mean yeh they sound good. you buy a set of DLC-177r splits lets say, retail store about $399. i can asure you it costs considerable less than that prob considerably under $100. Where as focal k2p's retailing at 849 (not made in china), the price the stores get it at is only around 650-700 depending on how many they buy

beayni85
05-08-2007, 10:57 AM
let me correct myself, they dont sound crap. they just love to rip off the consumer. most car audio gear is moving for the mass production in china. loosing its roots of hand made spl and sq gear :( i mean i know id rather pay twice as much for sumthing that sounds twice as good and is hand made

^ its true that alpine products do have a reputation for perhaps being better than they are but generalising all their products as 'crap' is a bit too far... they do make some decent products (like my pdx ;)) and many other manufacturers assemble products abroad in order to lower production costs. as another example focal amps are assembled in korea :)

overall alpine is priced resonably competitively compared with similar products but i dont remember this being a thread about alpine's profit margins anyway... :)

u sure the focal amps are produced in korea? pretty sure the 2.250 isnt.otherwise it wouldnt have the $3000 price tag. even so the cost of their equipment is considerably higher . I have heard however they are designed on the u-dimension amps from japan, but those amps are awseume. have had 2 of em in my 1st car. i wasnt saying alpine sounds crap, im saying that they are mass produced, and that for store price the alternative companies (generally made elsewhere) tend to rate better. in the old days alpine's quality ruled hands down tho. i am just talking as to how i feel. i have mates with full alpine set-ups worth a fortune, and they didnt even come close to my old sq lancer with 165k2p's in front and rear running of a 4 channel u-dimension amp and a 33kx running of a u-dimension 1x1000. admittingly i had a 9815 running as a source. i do like there headunits, just not soo much their speakers and amps

MTX THS602 are like $200 splits. [They are alright for price]
MTX TX6001 are more like $300 [Too tiny]
MTX THC6sumthin are like $600 [suppose to be good and crossovers similar to Boston Acoustics]

Good stuff but not great. There not SQ focus', They are SPL focus'.

Hense there banner "Biggest, Boldest, Baddest Bass"

Custom Car own MTX, JL, KICKER, XTANT and ACOUSTIC.
[SAME COMPANY PEOPLE]

Each have pro's and con's.
Each have different market focus.

MTX are designed to be bad ass loud. Look at there range. Also check out there 22inch Jack hammer sub. King of subs.

Subaru Liberty far as I know have a McIntosh (I think, maybe something similar name) Sound System.

hertz mille ftw they are like the focal one but they take a lot more power with a power rating or 150-170wrms continous but downfall u need a god damn huge amp to power these splits

that might be so but alpine stuff doesnt side all that good if you compare alpine type x subs to those of jl audio w6 say, the jl audio rules with a deeper thump and they dont require as much power but are louder than the type x in general the jl have a better sound

type r or type x splits dont sound anywhere near as good as hertz splits which have an extremely high power rating and can thrashed like anything while alpine splits cant handle the power and start to distort

but one thing i got to admit alpine amps are decently powered for their price, except they are all d-class amps

thus for the elite sound quality enthusiast they do not sound as good as a and b class amps,

the pdx1.1000 are wiked monoblocked amps to power subs and do not require much space depends on a buid ur looking for but hey that my opinion

try to hear this one....
its better than dynaudio n mb quartz
norwegian made
i have em on my dc2, the refference series, they are awesome.
one thing that most people forget, instalation is also crucial for total sound quality output, eg staging, enclosure of the speakers, dynamat etc. There is no point having $$$$ speakers if you dont install them correctly...
Sometime cheaper speaker with profesional instalation, sounds better than more expensive speaker with poor instalation.

Hey can you gives us some comments on the JL ZR splits.

How are you finding them and how do they compare to say others you have tried for the same price like maybe Boston Pro's.

Fr3aKi3
13-08-2007, 11:31 PM
JL Audio ZR's over Boston Pro's any given day!

Absolutely amazing amounts of mid-bass from the JL's, the tweeters are suprisingly smooth for metal tweeter, it can get a little bright when turned up loud but they're no where near as bright as the Boston's Pro's.

ICACHA
14-08-2007, 09:52 PM
you should hear the rainbow titanium domes, smoother than any metal dome ive heard. boston have a slight nasally (music dependant), havent heard JL in over 10 years so cant comment on the new stuff, old JL was brilliant.

mb quartz & dynaudio ftw

I have to agree.

I used to run a set of Pioneer splits which have been replaced by MB Quartz 6.5" Reference Splits and they are just awesome! I've sampled these at the shop against Focals and I preferred the MB Quartz for their mid-bass (the Discus in particular) although the Focals V1 & V2's win for their clarity and instrument separation. I went for the Reference coz the clarity is comparable to the Focals but still retain the midbass of the Discus line. I listen to mostly rock, metal and electronica were these splits really shine.
