The Jazz has an integrated head unit. But has anyone changed theirs? and what does it look like? Pics if possible please.

Thanks
Chris

you have to mount yr HU else where. I am going to do that soon. It is not hard but I have to build a custom box for HU to store.

The is a different panel that you can buy from Japan. You also need a different bracket. This will give you a standard double-DIN opening in the dash.

I have been struggling to find the part numbers, but there is one Jazz in Sydney that has done the switch-over. The parts cost about $250 and it took almost a whole day to change it over....

A job not for the faint of heart apparently.

oh... bugga. although i haven't tried it yet, i think the stock HU is not the best right? cos i wanna change it

To be honest I don't find it too bad at all and I have always had big systems in my cars...

I would like a different headunit simply because I have far more MDs than I do CDs, but there is an "AUX" button so I am guessing you can connect an ipod or whatever you want in to the back of it if you want to....

yeah im goin to do it too!!

i want a tv/dvd to go in (and eventually a playstation- i figure you can fit one in the bottom half of the glovebox) but it is all in the gunna motorsport stage
have to speak to marty.

as for a single din jus-10 said there is a plastic cover you can get to cover up the 2nd din hole but dont have the part no. :(

btw has anyone had 100000 ppl tell them that in the jazz they have to put aftermarket headunits in the glove box?

Pete :)

That link is the parts....seems pretty cheap though.

The other thing you need to remember is the the stickers for the air conditioning controls as I believe they are very hard to remove, so you may need to buy new ones. If you want, wait until the update comes out and get silver ones instead of the grey ones....

A group buy would be good. I'd be in that for sure!

As for the single din thing, you can just get a pocket thing for the other space. It is probably a pretty standard issue part for a lot of Hondas (don't quote me though) There is a specific one for the Fit on the Honda Japan site though....

The guy in Sydney who has done the conversion has said the wiring is a bitch....he didn't elaborate but it is part of the reason it took so long to do apparently.

Speakers in the doors are 6inch. Pretty easy swap if you get the right speaker (that is not too deep).

GROUP BUY!

Sorry, didn't mean that we should organise it as a OzHonda Group Buy....more of a group of Jazz owners who may want to buy the same part.

Can I ask why the no group buy rule applies? Your thread/link doesn't offer a great deal of explanation/justification...

hypothetically, if one were able to source the panel and the 2 mounting plates ;) .....the issue of the plug still remains. Does the 20pin plug look like any other existing plug? Does it look familiar to any honda driver out there? this is a honda forum after all.....

otherwise, it shouldnt be too hard to just diy wiring. almost half the pins are redundant.

Kit
03-08-2004, 12:19 AM
ok, i have no experience with the Jazz 20pin plug, but what you can normally do is get a harness from places like Dick Smith or AutoBarn.

these harnesses are usually suited to your car..... you just plug your factory honda plug into the harness, and then wire the harness into the plug for the head unit. that way there is no need to snip your factory wires.

however, if you guys are raising issues abotu the jazz 20pin plug, then maybe the harness is not available

Kit
03-08-2004, 12:32 AM
look what i just found:
http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Headunitfittingkits/honda.htm

it looks like the wiring harness for the jazz is the same as some accords and civics

muli
03-08-2004, 09:12 AM
autobarn sell them for about $30

are you guys talking about swapping H/U for JAZZ ?
I've done a view already, but to explain it in this forum
its quite hard, but as soon as you've got the dash kit and
the bracket, I reckon you can just follow from there........

Jus-10

It's the same thing but you just add a pocket to make it single DIN...there is no big secret to it.

they dont have for a single H/U, but as "Jus-10" mention what u need is just an original honda pocket, same as i did on the jazz with TV screen one, but the pocket its on top of the screen so when its open u cant see the pocket, because i dont want the air from the A/C blow direct to the back of the screen if i put it the H/U on the top part, and its not really good for the LCD screen

if u r in syd, I reckon just call honbit / hontoys for a pocket, basically
you can use any pocket as long as honda one,

aka nsx, where abouts did u run the wires through the firewall? near the battery where two pipes run thru the gromment? or nearer the driver side where the relayed power goes thru? i tried the latter but i couldnt make the grommet budge! any tips?

aka_NSX
01-09-2004, 07:51 AM
honestly i can't remember which side but usually i run the cable the one that close to the battery, and the grommet its a little bit hard to push you need something very pointy, remember if you make the grommet bigger DON'T FORGET to put silicone otherwise water might go in . . . . .

dc
03-09-2004, 05:30 PM
i just ran it thru the hole on the driver side where the fused power goes in. Im not too worried abt water goin in...cos if there were *that* much water in the engine bay id be in trouble anyway...but the grommet does keep out a lot of engine noise. moral of the story: ghetto way of hearing more engine/ pretend-induction noise is to remove the grommet.

hi guys

just joined the club few days ago and would like to find out more about the aftermarket headunit conversion.

how much does the panel cost to be delivered to brisbane?
is it going to be an easy conversion?
