Hi there guys,

I just ordered a new Civic and i was wondering if i could get your opinions on things like Paint/Fabric protection?

It's $795 for paint protection and $495 for fabric protection.

As this is my 1st new car, i was hoping for some assistance from people far more knowledgeable than me :)

Thanks! :)

Im not too famiilar with fabric protection as i have leather. Theres nothing better than a seat cover to protect. In terms of what product to put on fabric, hope other guys can help.

For fabric protection use Scotchguard.

For paint protection, don't get it through the dealer for $$$$$$$$. You can buy a DIY kit for as little as $100 using Glassplexin, or if you want a Teflon/PTFE protection, it can be professionally for around $300.

Is there any issues with using seat covers on cars with side airbags (the type that explode out from the seat)? Does it cause any interference, issues with deployment? Not that you'd be doing anything to cause your airbags to deploy, of course.

Guys paint protection is well worth it. Specially on a black car. Protects the from paint fade tree sap and bird poo marks. Hell of alot easier to clean and should come with a warranty on paint stains. Ask for a discount tho. Should be able to get it on ur car for around $300- $350 depending on dealership markup. Alot of ppl dont take it coz they aint seen it work. But u look at the effects on a used car and ull see y its worth getting it new. helps on resale of the car aswell. Waxes should be applied every month to get the same benefit as paint protection. And honestly how many ppl actually apply the wax properly.
Fabric protection that dealerships offer are also of far better quality than scotch guard. Works similar way but they make sure it soaks all the way through the fabric and sponge. Scotch guard is just the surface.
Fab is something u dont really need but its a want. Specially if u have ppl eating and drinking in ya car but paint on a black car is worth it.

If your worried about rust get rust protection. make sure its the Electronic one. again well worth it. Have paint and rust protection on all my cars. Seen the stuff work.

With the side airbags. You must get custom seat covers made that allow the side airbags to deploy properly. This itself will cost u more than $495.

Honda offered me paint protection and interior (leather) protection for my integra a few months ago when i bopught it - they wanted to charge me $1100! i politely told them to shove it up where the sun dont shine. :)

i think so long as you detail your car and look after the paintwork every week you should be okay

You can get your paint protection done by the same place that the dealer uses for under $300. :)

And yes, the fabric protection is scotchgard. They also sometimes use Lanolin spray.

Yep you'd needa get custom tailer made ones.

You can order them at supercheap auto, although the company[sperling] that makes them arnt very updated with their range..sometimes they cant get you it. Although if you're able to get it made by the after market companys such as sperling it'd be alot cheaper.

I got my paint and fabric protection thrown in for less than what people have been quoting.

by less I mean MUCH MUCH lesser. I can't quote exact figures, but I can tell you it's almost ALMOST on par with what you'd get quoted if you did it outside.

I still think I came off it better, seeing how I can get absolutely lazy when it comes to waxing the car.

u wash ur car with water then chamois it. Done lol. DO NOT USE CARWASHES.

Like i said ask for a discount on it. If they wont do it means they cant sell it for that much. The price i mention are reasonable prices for it. And to people who say the fabric protection is scotchguard you are wrong. How do i know. I sell it.
It works similar to scotchguard but is prepared and soaked in. Unlike scotchguard which is just a surface silicon. What your paying for is labour. Specially paint protection because it must be done by hand. Washed, dryed buffed then applied by hand.

300 for a paint and 250 for fab is all u should have to pay.

Nah, steve88 is right. You MUST use their brand of car shampoo. It was ridiculously priced too!

ummm pretty sure u were getting conned then. Coz i tell all my customers to use water or a little bit of car shampoo and chamois.
That wat was recommended by Motor1 who bascially has the market for the products.

apparently, the one I got didn't require me to use their car shampoo. however, I was told not to wax or polish the car, and that's about it.

so... yay!

thats right. Or use automated car washes as it does take away the paint protection
