Hello. Car won't start, just had it towed home

Details:

D16a8

RACV Roadside had a look

- There is spark coming through the leads (tested)
- There is fuel in the tank (just put $20 in)
- There is fuel going through the passenger side fuel line with pressure (checked)
- No engine light
- No ECU code
- Exhaust making popping noise when cranking
- Timing belt still intact
- Engine had oil consumption problems

If anyone can give me any advice about what i could be and what to check, it would be highly appreciated.

Cheers

Chef

Exhaust manifold, as you stated, you have an issue with the exhaust sound!

does the engine still crank?
the manifold is the 4 pipe thing next 2 the engine at the bottom of it..

chef_32

Yeah it still cranks, I haven't checked to see if the exhaust manifold has cracked, because i don't think it would be related to the car not starting.

I can hear the noise coming from the rear of the car, so i assume its from the muffler not from the manifold.

were u driving it and suddenly it just happend or u just start the car and it occur?

honda_zivic

is ur firing orders correct? coz if not it will make loud pop sound.

i was driving, then the car felt kind of heavy, with crap all throttle response. I think the drive train was holding the revs up, but no power from the engine if you know what I mean. I knew something was wrong so i pulled over and the engine died and wouldn't start again.

it sounds 2 me that u blew or cracked something, have u check everything ?

chef_32
07-08-2007, 07:49 PM
not yet, i have to get the car into the garage first. Will do this in the morning as requires moving cars, pushing car, etc. ATM its too dark to check over everything, but i'd just like to get a better idea of what kind of stuff to look for before i go nuts.

were u like full on thrashing the car when u were driving?

chef_32

similar thing happened to me about a year ago, after A LOT of stuffing around i found out the ecu had blown up. so maybe pull it out and check inside the ecu.
and when this blew it also shorted out something in the dizzy...cant remember what lol.
i ended up buying a new dizzy and ecu and it was all good.

car felt heavy - did it feel like there was no power steering and then teh revs just died ?

maybe your crank pulley has snapped off ( ive heard this happen on 3 D16a8's)

my fuel pump just break down last time.........
and its sound like ur crank shaft angle senser got prob...
it tell the ecu wrong angle to spark.....then make the noise to the exaust...it sound like poo..poo...

check alternator, might not be charging anymore, ie breaking the circuit so engine doesnt run anymore
could be main relay also,
sounds similar to what has happened to my bros gen2 both alternator died on us, could start the car but would lose all power and die 10 min later
main relay would start sometimes, then all of a sudden wouldnt start up at all

id say same thing !!

if u have noid lights u can check the injectors if they are gettting a signal.. coz since u got everything else it seems to b fuel related.

update:

Ecu looks to be intact
resistance between pins on dizz plug is within spec
Cyl sensor resistance between pins is good
I can hear the fuel pump prime when i put the key to the on position.

Don't have noid light to check injectors....

its nice to know you have a D16A8 but what car is it in, as crx is OBDO SI is OBDI they have different ignition and pfmfi systems.

make sure the valve timing is right
make sure the coil and ICM is ok
make sure the main PGMFI relay is ok
make sure the rotor button hasnt sheared off

test for spark

test fuel pressure

chef_32

CRX obd0

now getting error code 15: Ignition output signal?? What should I do now

Don't have a timing light atm
I think the PGMfi relay is alright cos the pump is priming?
Rotor button looks okay...

chef_32

WOOPS, The error was because i didn't connect the 2 pin connector properley.

Car is still doing the same thing, cranks, won't start, etc.

do you have spark

chef_32
08-08-2007, 11:30 AM
The RACV dude checked the spark by putting something at the end of the lead then holding it near the chassis while i cranked it. He checked 1 & 4 and said that there was spark.

take the dizzy cap off and make sure the rotor button is ok.

If this is what you mean, then i checked it, it looks fine, apart from it having been previously snapped and super glued back together...

EG5[KRT]

the fuel pump should b priming even without the ecu connected..

but check all fuses in the engine bay .. should b a 10 or 15 amp one that is for the ecu..

i had same problem as u on my car.but yeah your rotor button could b ****ed too especially if its been glued back together lol...

chef_32

Fuel pump is priming, ecu has power cos i can see the light flash when i put it in the on position.

I got a feeling it will be the distributor, but won't know until i test a good one on the car....

that is so ghetto

change it, spark could be leaking through it to ground.
