I recently bought a cheap-ass dvd player that looks to have a major design flaw!

I don't know a whole bunch about stereos but I believe the blue wire that tells an auto aerial to go up and down is also used to turn the amp on and off? Well my DVD player turns the amp off whenever I put any disc in it! WTF?! My amp comes on and works fine for the radio but as soon as I change modes it turns off!

Is there some way around this? Can I do something like wire a manual switch to turn the amp back on until i can afford a decent head unit? I'm all for soldering stuff if it comes down to it ;)

My setup: (its far from ideal but it gets me through)
- Front 6" running off head unit
- Rear 6x9 running off amp ch 1&2
- 12" sub running off same amp bridged ch 3&4
- Headunit runs the amp off a single pair of RCA's

It really sux listening to CD/MP3 through front 6" only, especially when I know my 6x9 and 12" are sitting dormant up the back :(

Please help!!

the blue wire is for the antenna
look for a blue wire with a white stripe
that's for your amp.
or you can hook up your amp to the ign wire which is red.
so when ever your head unit turns on, so will your amp as well.

wont that just turn your amp on whenever the ignition is on? regardless of whether your headunit is on or not?
i thought the ignition wire becomes live when your accessories are on

i've got a couple switches i dont use so unless there's another way i'll rig up a manual switch to the ignition wire

yes it will. i hooked mine up to the antennae wire and mine seems to work fine? but ah well. You can always install a straight thru switch dude, its no hassle at all. Pop into any jaycar or DSE and they'll sort you out.

You've hooked up the wrong wires, like destrukshn said - you've connected the power antenna wire to the amplifier remote terminal. They're both trigger wires, but when you switch from radio to DVD - the power antenna relay switches and that's why your amp is turning off.

Are you sure there's not a remote turn on output off the headunit??

yep, positive! there's no 'remote' wire. i wrote to the manufacturer and complained :)
i just rigged up a manual switch to the accessories power wire for now. so now i need both the accessories and the switch to be on, i'd prefer my amp not to come on whenever i turn the key. also, having it on the accessories wire means if i forget to turn the amp off, it will get turned off when i turn the car off
one day i'll get a REAL headunit ;)
thanks for your input guys

some cd/dvd players now use Red as a remote wire as i did my mates one not long ago. there should be a wiering diagram which shows u what colour is what, did yours come with it, i usually use that as my guide.
